When I first visited Bordeaux in 2019, the sculpture Sanna was among the things there, that left the strongest impression on me. I kept going to Place de la Comédie just to see this warm face again and to walk around it to admire its presence in the space and the unexpected compression of the volume. For me this sculpture is the emblem of Bordeaux and although it's a fairly new "resident", I can not imagine the city without it. Sanna was first installed in Bordeaux as part of an exhibition of the Catalan artist Jaume Plensa (born in 1955 in Barcelona) with 10 other monumental heads by him, placed in different parts of the town. Evidently the locals were as mesmerized by this particular sculpture as I am, so it stayed there and in 2015 the private collector who acquired it, made a usufruct donation to the benefit of the City. For now the agreement for the deposit of Sanna between the city hall of Bordeaux and the owner of the work is validated until 2027. In my mind Sanna will always be the face of Bordeaux.
