The Toposcope is a heritage site commemorating the 1820 settlers and their descendants. It is located on a particularly scenic hill with many landscape views. Plaques reflecting the names and ships of the parties arriving in the Eastern Cape in 1820 appear around the Toposcope. The plaques create a compass direction indicating the location of the various settler parties. As a tourist attraction this monument and others in Bathurst are the lifeblood of tourism driven job creation in the area. What an amazing view. Fresh air. So relaxing being on top of the world. Don't miss it when passing through Bathurst!

Wow, when you arrive you are a little disappointed until you walk up a couple of meters to the Toposcope and you see the views. We were lucky to meet a historian who explained the plaques. Amazing history, beautiful views!!!

An interesting part of history. Beautiful scenery from here. Nice and peacefull atmosphere. Not a lot of parking space. No ablutions, braai facilities or picnic spots available. Difficult area for disabled people and persons in wheelchairs.

200 year old beacon established for land surveying. There are plaques with the settlers names, farm allocations and distance from the town. Makes for a nice walk from Bathurst town centre and is open air and free.

Wonderful, historic site. Unfortunately it looks like someone has jumped a bag of rubbish there. So sad.

Fantastic views! A great addition to a morning in Bathurst. Some interesting history of the area at the time of the 1820 settlers, but clearly the reason for going is enjoying the amazing views.

Interesting historical sight, a must see. The first time that i really understood the spread of the settlers into all areas. In my mind eye could see the men gathering and decision on you go that way , you go that way..ect ect ect.. spreading over the country
