Terrible company. No headtorches provided for a night hike or any warning that we needed to bring one - extremely dangerous! We were literally hiking over massive crevasses with our phone lights. I was left lost and alone on the mountainside because the guide was not keeping everyone together and was telling us to go ahead whilst not providing clear direction. On top of this they forgot I was vegetarian twice so I had no hot meal in the evening and had to snack on the following morning's breakfast instead. Just pay like 15 GTQ more to go with someone decent who provides the right safety equipment and guidance.

    1. They told us to bring 3 Liter water per person to drink, but never said that the guide needs 1 liter water per person for cooking and breakfast... 2. They never said that you have to pay extra 20$ pp if you wanna go direct to fuego.. 3. In the morning we had to wake up the guide for the morning hike to the peak, after 5 minutes he left us with a other group to get there and went back to the camp sleeping 4. the good thing its an amazing hike, but not with this company

Had to sleep in dirty tents full of trash, no one knew who sleeps where, how many in which tent, organization terrible, also information given when tour sold inaccurate. Guides and views were nice though. But the agency never again. Avoid

An amazing experience!!! We had a private guide, military tent and transportation. It was worth the extra! Mynor was an outstanding, educated, kind, funny, chatty guide who went out of his way to make sure we had a great time. Food was so good, fresh and tasty. Thank you Getaway for another exceptional experience!

Such a genuine person. Food was good and portions enough for us. Definitely recommend for good price

We went back again with Getaway Adventures this year and went up Acatenango Volcano in 4WD!!! Absolutely epic experience. Juan Miguel took care of everything for us, and my friends who had never been up a volcano - well this experience was a life changer for them!

We booked both an overnight our to acatanango and a ride to San Pedro Laguna. The tour guide was not interested in nature at all. Schedules were not met. The food provided was not enough and they asked to give away our own water for them to prepare us coffee, chocolate or breakfast, without being warned that we had to bring extra water for this propuse. For the ride they said that it would be a bus, in the end a dodgy minivan arrived and the driver drove like a kamikaze.

Stay away from this company! We booked a one-day trip up Acatenango, but the guide didn't show up. We were ready at 5 am, as we had agreed; when the guide didn't show up, we waited for two hours, but nothing. Finally, we went to the office to get our money back, and we were told he (our intended guide was named Juan Miguel) had gotten drunk the night before, so he didn't want to wake up and guide us. The worst part is that this was our last day in Guatemala. So, because of this company, we never got a chance to climb Acatenango. (In addition to spending our entire morning trying to get our money back!) This is the most unprofessional, irresponsible company I've dealt with in Central America. Do yourself a favor, and schedule your adventure with someone else!

I have some mixed feelings about booking the acatenango trip with this agency. Positive: - we hade a nice guide (Jose) - our group was quite small (5 people), the groups of other companies where like 35 people - the food was tasty (sandwich for lunch, pasta for diner, banana bread for breakfast) - the accomodations where a bit better than the ones of other companies (fixed tents, just a little bit smelly) - quite cheap (300q for the trip) Negative: - there appeared to be some communication issues between the guide and the organization. our guide was not informed that we had paid the fuego trip in advance. It took like 1h for him to clarify the situation in the basecamp - once it was clarified, we could still not go on the fuego trip, because the warm clothes (gloves, jacket, mullet) were not available in the base-camp. The clothes only arrived 2, 3h later, when it was already dark. We were really sad about this, because the additional fuego hike was supposed to be our highlight of this trip. At least the company reimbursed the fuego-fee without any further disscussions. - In general I had the feeling, that the organization was a bit chaotic. E.g. one fellow traveller was told he could do the night-hike with the torch of his mobile phone, which is just not responsible im my opinion. All in all I would probably recommend spending a few quetzales more and go with another tour operator. If you still decide to go with this company, just do not expect everything to go smoothly :-)

Contact was good with the staff. We booked a shuttle bus to Lake Atitlan but it showed up 90 min late.. So don't expect much.

Don’t book a shuttle with them. Wanted to go from Antigua to Santa Ana which is supposed to be 5h. They first drove all the way to Tunco to Drop off someone else. Made the drive 3h more than it should be.

Thank you so much for your support. We booked several transports with them. They always helped us if needed and took care that a driver of a company who forgot us to come back and pick us up! When we forgot something from our baby boy in the hostel in Antigua they helped to have it picked up by the Shuttel the next day and deliver it to us in El Salvador. Without charge! That's what I call true service!

The guides left me at the top of the volcano with a fever and lied to the rest of my group saying that a truck would take me down AND would take me all the way to Antigua. Well no truck was around to take me down so I decided to run down, hoping to make the bus. Not to mention the trucks don’t go to Antigua? Just to the bottom of the volcano. But since they lied to my group, the bus left. 10 minutes before I made it down to the bottom. And then they wouldn’t provide transportation into the city… which is part of the tour.

Overall the experience has left us with a bad taste. From the beginning you can see how disorganized they are… trying to charge you fees that they have included when they were selling the tour, at the agency no one knows anything, the lack of punctuality that affect the walks in dangerous paths. The worst part was coming from a 5hr walk from Volcano Fuego around 10pm to find out that they didn’t know where we were going to sleep, finding a DIRTY PLACE full of trash, beer cans, all sleeping bags and jackets in a corner…. As the guides were tired as well, they couldn’t help us not even to clean it and to organize it. In the morning we complained about it and we only got defensive answers that we didn’t pay for a 5 star hotel and that is what we paid for (when we paid for the most expensive tour) and the ones who paid the cheapest slept in a better place than us. Also that all the trash that was there it was not their responsibility when they own those tents, and also that we should leave as soon as possible as other people were listening to our complains… I would try to find another place to organize your trip. I feel bad because we had amazing guides, Andre and Alejandro who took us to the volcano Fuego and they didn’t deserve that this affected their performance.

I booked the volcano hike with a different agency (due south travels, who I thoroughly recommend), which was then subcontracted to Getaway adventures. I was reassured that I could leave my bag on the bus, but on returning to the agency after the hike my bag with all my valuables in was not there. The agency were unhelpful to the point of rudeness, and basically said that as my bag wasn’t there it wasn’t their problem and they refused to help in any way. I really cannot emphasize how much I do not recommend this company, unless you want your stuff stolen :(

I did the Volcan Acatenango overnight hike. Pros: - One of the most beautiful site I've ever seen. - Food was good and great hot chocolate at the top. Cons - Very disorganized. On the extra Fuego hike, the guides weren't waiting for us for half an hour and we were always searching for our group. We had to run down hill in slippery sand to try to keep up. - They only gave the information in spanish. - A part of it is in the dark and no headlamps were provided. The path is slippery which made it quite scary and dangerous. - 3 people in the group (out of about 20) ended up with no place in any tent and one of them didn't even get a sleeping bag. They slept on the ground. - It's cold up there and their provided jacket were not warm enough.

The pricing is okay, however they forget to mention that there is a park entrance fee and another fee and then more costs for the extra volcano hike. And we were under the impression that the guides don’t get good treatment.

If I could give a 0 Star I would. My tour guide was so unprofessional. Stay away!!! He was so inappropriate with me. He came into my tent and tried to kiss me. Sexual assault is okay with this company as when I complained they literally did nothing. Do not go with this company unless you like to be treated like a piece of meat.

My friend and I had a great time thanks to our excellent guide Jose who was very kind, collected, and friendly. The food was yummy and (with the help of some extra sleeping bags available to us because of our small group size) we slept comfortably through the night. For the price I would recommend this!

Everything was amazing! Great service, high quality equipment and phenomenal guide. The overnight Acatenango trip is something you have to do at least once in your life.

Perfect tour to Acatenango! I can highly recommend the tour, especially our tour guide José “Chepe”. We had a nice hike, and a wonderful evening at the basecamp. We were lucky to be a small group, and the price was the best I found for climbing Acatenango in whole anrigua (250 Q).

Amazing experience! Alexander is a very friendly, considerate and knowledgeable guide. The view on fuego from the camp ground is great! Had basic but good&tasty 3 meals, and they provided warm cloths. Great value/price ratio!

I reserved a Saturday morning Volcán Pacaya trek and the van never showed up 😠 I reluctantly rescheduled for the next day and GT paid our national park entrance fee. All went well and we had a great experience on the trek, but then GT called me asking for payment 😣.
