One of the first turistic places I visited in the area. Took my dogs and children for it. It took a toll on my feet, but my eyes were in awe. I witnessed some solemn rituals and walked around then lagoon. The weather couldn't be better, but it went dark sooner than expected. The place authorities had to haul us down, after a small symbolic payment, for it got risky to hike back down. Can't wait for my next visit. I'll just be there earlier.

(Translated by Google) It is such a beauty and it seems very mystical. It is located in the municipality of San Martin Chile Verde, Quetzaltenango. To arrive you can walk (2 hours approx.) It depends on the pace, and if you can not go by Jeep, you have the association in charge of the place. I guess the price depends on the season, because the first time I went I paid Q. 150.00 and the second Q. 200.00 round trips. Worth going 💪👊 Something that cannot be done is bathing. Camping, yes.

Beautiful setting, interesting cultural site. Get there early and go to the mirador first then walk down the long steep steps to the lake. Otherwise there's a good chance the clouds will roll in and you'll miss the view. Don't kid yourself, the walk up from Chile Verde is quite steep in places. It's doable but you'll need to be ready to make a serious effort.

Beautiful mystical sacred Mayan lake. If you are lucky you might catch them performing a ceremony. Swimming is not allowed. I recommend camping here but be sure to bring extra warm clothes, temperatures can drop to 5 degrees celsius at night!

Quite the hike to get here, take a Toro truck if you have any difficulty walking whatsoever. There's a very long and steep stairway to get down to the lake but once there, it's like paradise. No amenities

(Translated by Google) An excellent experience that they must live. If you have private transportation there are two parking spaces if the car is not 4x4, it is better to leave it in the first parking lot and come up with a famous “Torito” that is a pick up, the value is Q50.00 and the parking fee must also be paid The "Torito" can leave them in the second parking lot or raise them to the viewpoint. My advice is to leave them in the second parking lot and walk the path seriously, it is a unique experience. After arriving at the viewpoint there are two options or down the path or bleachers. Be careful because some have a little dirt. Arriving in Laguna, it is incredible the view that one can observe and know that before that was a volcano * Recommendations * If you bring food, do not litter or wash your dishes in the lagoon, respect the place and take care of an incredible lagoon. Bring your trash bag and your own water so as not to contaminate it.

(Translated by Google) Mythical and beautiful is the Laguna de Chicabal. With more than twenty Mayan sanctuaries around it. A great legend exists thanks to the fact that the place generates its own climate. The fog descends every so often, kisses the water of the lagoon and rises to the skies. The locals call it "El Beso del Ángel". If you want to know more about this legend, I invite you to watch my movie on YouTube with the same name. (Translated by Google) It is a volcanic lagoon. You can climb, the trail takes 2 hours minimum and the difficulty is average if you have condition. If you do not like long walks you can take the "torito" that for 15 quetzales (45 mexican pesos) takes you to the viewpoint from where you can descend 700 steps to reach the lagoon. It is sacred to the indigenous Mam. (a branch of the Mayan people) so you can not bathe. Around it you will see floral offerings and remains of incense that the inhabitants take as a ritual offering. The sunrise is wonderful. And see how little by little the fog disappears goes back to some passage of popol vuh. It is located 25 minutes from Xela in the municipality of San Martín Chile Verde. The admission fee is Q50 I went to an individual, but I gotta get a chicken bus ride from Chalka terminal at Shella terminal and walk up there. Whenever I can I go !! My son went up at 3 years old the first time, for a special Mayan celebration for the rain. You have to go early preferably. The entrance costs Q 5 or Q10.00 and foreigners pay a little more. There is food service in an area called dry lagoon, where there are also bungalows, but you have to request it in advance. (Translated by Google) It is an amazing place to visit, if you want to go by Quetzaltenango bus, you can take a bus or van in the terminal, go to San Martin Chile Verde (Q7), if in case there are no direct ones you can take one that goes to San Juan Ostuncalco (Q4) and then take another one to San Martin Chile Verde (Q4), which leaves them in front of the road for Chicabal, there are minibuses that go up to the first parking lot of the lagoon, take into account that in holidays (14, 15 September) do not provide regular service or do not find and will have to climb 2.9km on foot for the first parking lot, plus the route to the lagoon and the steps leading to it. In our case, we climbed 2.9km on foot (everything is asphalted) and in the parking lot we found more people who would take a "torito" that charges from Q50 to 75 go up from there to the lagoon viewpoint, if there are more than 8 people they would pay Q10 one way back Q10 (the price varies depending on the number of people), if they are in good physical condition or arrived by car they can climb this journey on foot, and on the way back we had to lower the 2.9km again. But I remind you that it is part of the attraction and worth the climb and stay for a while at the edge of the lagoon and be covered by the dense fog (it is very cold in the place, not going up). Take into account that you should not swim or disrespect the lagoon or the people who are performing some Mayan ritual.

Beautiful hike to this volcanic, sacred lake. Would recommend hiking from the first parking lot, although the "Toros" look like fun. Would also recommend taking separate routes (stairs or trail) down to and up from the lake.

We took the combi/chicken bus from av.15 calle 6 in xela to san martin chiquito (10Q). From there it took us was 2/3h by foot to the laguna. The path was very steep but wide and easy to walk. There’s also the possibility to pay a 4x4 taxi and get to the laguna. We camped there. Entry fee 50Q pp and 15Qpp to camp. It was very quiet and we were alone. At sunrise at mirador you can also see the lava of volcan santiaguito

(Translated by Google) I think this is one of the best preserved places and they are accessible in terms of location. The road to San Martin is acceptable, you get to a parking lot and you can hire a 4x4 vehicle or otherwise walk to the lagoon. You have to go down 500 steps to get to the lagoon, ideal to go in the morning because after midday it starts to cloud. (Translated by Google) It is a mystical and amazing place. For me it is the mirror of heaven, for the Mayans it is a sacred place. The access is not complicated, there are a 4x4 pick-up called Toritos that can take you to a point near the lagoon. The cost is between Q10 and Q60 according to the amount of the group. Being in this place is magical, the ideal is to camp and spend the night to see the sunrise. It is a spectacle to see how the clouds descend and caress the waters. There are some viewpoints that have a beautiful view of the lagoon and towards the Santa Maria and Santiaguito volcano. but you must climb more than 600 steps, but everything is part of the adventure. You must take into account that swimming in the lagoon is not allowed because it is a place of respect. If you camp, I tell you that the temperatures are very low and it could rain at night. So you should go prepared. There are no restrooms in the lagoon, but in a part called Laguna Seca (half way to the crater) if there are any, you also rent rooms for s you want to spend the night there.
