This place is breathtaking. To witness the long list of those who gave their lives to free Europe from the invading Germans, and to find the name of one of your relatives, really emphasises why we should value peace.

Beware, I came on a public holiday and it was shut but this was not noted on their site or published opening hours.

Very informative museum with images and descriptions of what happened in the area during WW1. Opened my eyes to the brutality and sacrifice.

Very comprehensive display of the western front in this region , what skirmishes the men were involved in etc.Mostly from the point of view of the ordinary soldier. Huge circular memorial with everymans name on , in alphabetical order ,is inscribed.

Not the same since Mathilde and Virginie departed, but still well worth a visit before or after visiting Notre Dame de Lorette. An excellent photographic collection, with some artifacts. Good little gift shop.

Purpose built museum focussing on the First World War battles in the region. Lots of modern methods of presenting the history. Also set in a great place with wonderful views of the surrounding country side. You can even go on the roof, though weirdly, the stairs up were covered in cobwebs.

Educational experience & free to enter. Information boards in French, English, German & Dutch. Electronic tour handsets available for a few €s - well worth it as extra information. We spent 3 hours walking around the museum but we were quite thorough! Gift shop but no café.

Well worth a visit if you want to get an overview of the facts about WW1. I thought this very informative musem. It's location is tucked away back from main road and you might easily drive past with noticing it is there. We did initially. Free Entry. Be prepared to do a lot of standing though as I did not notice any chairs inside. Fantastic displays and very well laid out in chronological progression through WW1. I paid €3 for an Audioguide. For me well worth the minimal expense as sometimes I would listen to the Guide and sometimes read the info boards. There is also a small gift shop. Near the Ring of Remembrance and major French WW1 cemetery.

A "must-see" Great War Museum, well thought out. Bear in mind it shuts at 1pm for an hour - if you are in the middle of a visit, you will be politely asked to leave (as we were in November). Might be a good idea to ask prior to a visit ... perhaps hours change with the season.
