Donāt
make
my
mistake.
If
youāre
paying
in
cash,
pay
only
after
youāve
completed
your
diving
course.
Scuba
is
an
expensive
sport,
so
this
place
is
pricey
(but
around
the
same
price
as
other
scuba
schools
in
the
area).
But
this
business
doesnāt
accept
credit
cards.
It
also
doesnāt
accept
payment
on
the
common
transfer
apps,
like
PayPal,
Venmo,
Apple
Pay,
Google
Pay,
Facebook
Pay,
and
so
on.
Aside
from
some
uncommon
apps
for
wire-transfer,
this
business
only
accepts
cash.
The
problem
is,
I
couldnāt
complete
my
diving
course
because
I
got
sick.
And
my
sickness
was
partly
caused
by
the
scuba
diving:
I
was
recovering
from
food
poisoning,
and
the
scuba
diving
made
my
nausea
and
dizziness
come
back.
(Scuba
diving
can
cause
nausea
and
dizziness,
because
of
the
pressure
on
your
ears
underwater
and
because
of
motion
sickness
on
the
boat.)
I
didnāt
know
that
Iād
react
this
way
to
scuba
diving,
because
Iād
never
done
scuba
diving
before.
And
I
was
too
sick
to
dive.
I
didnāt
want
to
have
severe
vomiting
or
diarrhea
while
underwater,
especially
because
I
was
completely
new
to
scuba
diving.
So,
on
my
third
day,
I
just
couldnāt
dive.
When
I
told
the
owner
that
I
was
too
sick
to
dive,
he
was
very
rude.
The
first
words
out
of
his
mouth
were,
āYou
arenāt
getting
your
money
back.ā
Then
he
began
bartering
with
me
about
what
date
I
could
return
to
compete
the
course.
I
wasnāt
in
the
headspace
to
barter
with
the
guy,
because
I
was
still
very
nauseous,
dizzy,
and
sick.
So,
in
the
end,
he
received
full
payment
for
all
three
days,
but
I
received
only
two
days
of
instruction
and
diving.
I
wish
that,
when
I
told
him
that
I
was
too
sick
to
dive,
heād
reacted
differently.
I
wish
that
heād
expressed
concern
about
my
well-being.
I
wish
heād
reassured
me
that,
of
course,
my
health
was
his
top
priority.
But
he
didnāt
do
any
of
that.
Instead,
he
aggressively
came
at
me
about
money,
when
I
had
no
leverage
to
negotiate
because
he
already
had
my
cash
in
his
til.
Thinking
back
on
it
now,
I
realize
that
there
were
certain
fees
that
the
owner
absolutely
should
have
refunded.
For
example,
when
the
boat
arrives
at
the
national
park,
the
park
employees
charge
for
each
person
in
your
boat.
But
I
got
sick,
so
I
didnāt
go
to
the
park
on
the
third
day.
The
owner
shouldāve
refunded
that
fee
to
me,
because
the
owner
never
paid
that
fee
to
the
national
park.
But
the
owner
flatly
refused
to
refund
any
of
my
money.
Besides,
itās
not
just
about
the
money.
It
was
the
way
the
owner
treated
me,
acting
as
though
my
money
was
all
that
he
cared
about.
It
left
a
really
bad
taste
in
my
mouth.
Everything
else
about
this
diving
school
seems
fine.
My
instructor
was
good.
The
underwater
views
were
beautiful.
My
only
problem
was
with
the
owner,
who
made
me
feel
like
my
only
value
to
him
was
the
depth
of
my
pocketbook.
So
donāt
make
my
mistake.
If
you
go
with
this
diving
school,
pay
only
after
youāve
completed
the
diving
and
instruction.
After
all,
youāll
be
paying
in
cash,
so
you
wonāt
have
the
type
of
consumer
protection
provided
by
companies
like
Visa
and
Mastercard.
But
if
you
pay
at
the
end
of
your
course,
then
youāll
likely
avoid
the
type
of
negative
experience
that
I
had
with
the
owner
of
this
business.
