We made a special trip to visit the Onsen based on the hours listed on the website. When we arrived at 5:30 pm, the receptionist told us they closed early. The website lists the closing time as 8 pm, with last entry at 7:30 pm. We spent ¥4000 on taxi fare and had to wait over an hour for pick ups. They did not offer an apology and would not let us use the private Onsen (which we offered to pay extra to use) instead. The website should be updated to accurately reflect the public opening times.

This was a great place to relax, the staff were welcoming and always attentive to our needs. The onsen was roomy and relaxing while we stayed there (in the off season). The food was really good if you like traditional Japanese food they had a really good selection of foods and if you wanted more western foods they also had a selection to choose from. Also the dining hall had some amazing views in both the morning and evening!! It took us around 20min to reach the mountains so it was very accessible for traveling.

The onsen has gone way down hill recently, they lowered the water pressure in the showers to the point you can barely get shampoo out of your hair, they turned the sauna off, they no longer offer razors, and they removed the machine that gave free drinking water. Used to be my favorite onsen in town, now it's my least.

We didn’t stay here but went for the popular onsen which has a supposedly good view. Unfortunately we were little late and reached around 6 pm and it was already dark. Anyway, they have a small indoor pool and one outdoor pool. The temperature of outdoor pool was too mild I think. I spent more time in the indoor one. Overall average experience. Nice and clean and good staff. Hotel lobby has a fireplace where you can chill for some time. They have a souvenir shop as well - prices seemed quite okay.

Hey! Do you like the smell of a septic tank when you open the window? Or do you prefer a weird ventilation system where it sounds like someone's peeing at random hours of the night, all night long? Then c'mon down to the Highland Hotel! Two stars for the buffet.

Amazingly delicious food, try the steak and onion sauce and the tempura. White wine was dry and delicious. Do not worry if the bar staff are slow with your drinks during the nomihodai, you will have enough. Queue starts early for the restaurant but there is plenty of food , do not rush. Breakfast was great. Very delicious. Charshiu pork and kiwi smoothie were great. The onsen were amazing with a superb view of the mountains. I could have stayed there a king time. The rooms were great and comfortable with a view if the mountains, we had room 402. Near the lift though that gets busy at 5am when the onsen opens. Not far to drive to see the ski jumps, people were practising or the alpine line to get to the tarn in the mountains, though not as dramatic as the lake district ones, sorry Japan! :) Loved our stay but glad to leave as my waistline would have suffered with alk that delicious food. You can also go to the onsen for free after checkout. Here is the sunset view from our room.

The hotel is nice and clean. Great location and great view. The staff went out of the way to help me. I needed to make a reservation for dinner it was done. A girl at the front spoke perfect English. I needed information on a train and she helped me out. The rooms are clean and nice. I did not give it five stars because I could not get a drink as it has no bar. The restaurant does not open until later and it’s the only place that serves drinks. The breakfast was great with lots of options. I would recommend you stay but would like to see the bar restaurant open a little early for those who want to have drink after skiing.

The hotel is situated on a hill side overlooking Hakuba valley and have a great view towards the mountain. The open air onsens has a fantastic view. The staff are very friendly and obliging. The buffet breakfast and dinners are fantastic, mostly Japanese food. Though not a low cost hotel but value for money if you’re looking for a luxury get away at reasonable price. Also if you’re there for the snow - the hotel provide discounted lift pass.

We got the day trip pass and used the private onsen, rented the bikes, and had a nice time here. I got a little mixed up with the day trip and thought it included the night too since we got the hotel room with it, but looking back it makes sense. I was using google translate on the website so it sounded different. The staff were very nice and helpful when we realized the misunderstanding.

Nice hotel - little further from the ski resorts but makes up for the stunning views from the onsen. Staff are super helpful and even came out of their way to pick us up when we missed the shuttle bus. One thing that could be improved are the beds which are abit too soft for my liking. But overall highly recomeded.

Excellent hotel for the price and location. The private onsen was perfect. Wide range of food for buffet breakfast and dinner. Free shuttle bus to and from Hakuba Happp Snow resort and Hakuba station. Staff was very friendly.

I didnt stay here but I came to use the onsen. It had an amazing view. Otherwise it wasn't fantastic. The sauna was turned off. It was overpacked and loud.

Cosy and nice onsen. Paid yen700 and another yen300 for Big bath towel. Body lotion, hair treatment lotion and hairdryer provided too. Was there at opening time 11am so not crowded. Indoor onsen is hotter than outside. Outside onsen’s view is breathtaking.
