Annie is super nice. She is trying. I wish it were better, but it missed on lots of levels. It didn’t take long for the breakfast to unwind when the first cup of coffee was delivered, a whole carton of cream dropped onto the table and then taken back when the waiter said the coffee was messed up as there would be copious grounds on the bottom of the cup. The omelette was a veggie omelette unlike anything I have ever experienced. It was a salad in an omelette. Like cucumber, cabbage…. In an omelette? I was game. It was not good. The other order was two eggs over medium and one egg yolk was over hard with broken yolk. If you break the yolk start over? I don’t know. Orders the pancakes as a third dish and they were uninspired and flat with thickness like a crepe. The best part was the store bought syrup sadly. The homemade bread was as hard as a rock. Gosh I wish this review were different and if you read my reviews you will know I try to be both entertaining and accurate. This review doesn’t have a lot of platitudes for a reason. The place is super small and it seems that two of their tables are broken because people showed up and turned away because there was no room and only four tables being used at the time. The reviews were so favorable. I love local finds and one of a kind spots. But sadly to say, I have no clue where those reviews came from. This place is one to unfortunately pass up.

Don’t go there upon positive comments! We did some days ago and we regretted it! You’ll ruin your day with this horrible breakfast! The price is the same as the fancy and clean breakfast place with a range hood but that’s a total shelter! That all bad smell and smoke will remain on you 🤮 No whip cream, bananas, blueberries or any fruits on pancakes! Supper dry and burnt! Seriously this horrible breakfast for both of us costs in total 35$!! Without receipt! I needed to take medicine and I didn’t have time to change to another place otherwise I would leave and didn’t eat that burnt dried pancake!

extremely disappointed by the takeout breakfast order. Both the portion ( there were two boring bread slices to go with it) and quality of the food was poor and still cost $13. Other than that, the smoke and smell there ruined my day. They need better ventilation system. We would not recommend this restaurant for breakfast or any other meal. Save your money and look for a better option elsewhere.

We had walked over from our hotel. And found this lovely little place. For breakfast. The owner had cooked our food. To perfection. If you are looking for home cooking. You have to check it out.

I have been there a couple of times with family and friends. I have nothing but good things to say about the food and the ambiance. Everything is fresh and tastes amazing. Excellent bread, coffee, desserts and people!

I really wanted to like the food more than I did. Owner is lovely, ambiance is cute. Coffee was pretty good. But pancakes were dry, French toast was burnt, and nothing was served with fruit or anything so it cost a lot for a little portion of bread. I had the special chicken jambalaya (which I’m pretty sure had hot dogs in it?) and it tasted all right but was over cooked (rice was mushy) plus the scone or biscuit served with it was tough and dry. I’d maybe give it another try if I were in town again, perhaps it was an off day? Still, disappointed the whole thing was $75 for two coffees, French toast, the special and plain pancakes with add on side of bacon (2 slices)!

I have had food from here a few times. Always a joy to stop in for a fresh scone, or coffee cake with my coffee. Her daily specials are delicious and I leave with the feeling you get after visiting a good friend.

I had such a wonderful breakfast at Annie's, cooked by Annie herself. I had the special which was eggs Benedict with locally sourced bacon as well as a nice hot cup of coffee. The taste was great and the homemade bread made it special. I'm happy I chose to eat at a local restaurant and support her small business. While sitting in the restaurant I saw many locals coming to pick up items she had prepared. I'm happy about my choice for that morning's breakfast.

A great little cafe serving home cooked food with really nice staff. The home made apricot jam with my pancakes was especially good.

I love Annie's Place! It's one of the few quaint down east homemade delicious restaurants left in Halifax. I've eaten breakfast, and had lasagna. Both were done perfectly (and I shy away from lasagna normally, but I'll be back for Annie's lasagna guaranteed!)! The atmosphere is cozy, welcoming, and non-pretentious. I've recommended Annie's Place to friends and they love it too. If you are looking for delicious homemade comfort food, good coffee, and a chill vibe, I recommend Annie's. I have lived in all of Canada's major cities, am a foodie, and I appreciate a real local diner 👌🏼 I'll return again and again. Thank you Annie for your yummy menu and coziness...a real treasure in downtown Halifax.

We had the BEST experience here. It was the most welcoming space. Incredibly delicious food. The best pancakes ever. Fresh scones, homemade bread, the eggs Benny was perfect. The coffee was divine and our cup was always full. The baked goods, the atmosphere, the people.... it was honestly one of my favorite dining experiences and it seems like a spot the locals love. And the people 💕 that's what made it so special. We will be back soon.

Absolutely loved our late breakfast / early lunch at Annie's Place Cafe! It's a tiny place, but the food, the service, and just the general vibe made it more than worth the wait. Our server was incredibly attentive, and since the location isn't particularly big, you get a direct connection to the people preparing the food for you. I don't know why, but I found that very lovely. In a lot of restaurants, you don't have a sense of who prepares the food, but with Annie behind the counter getting the breakfast ready, it was that much more personal. The food itself was delicious: a wonderful brunch with eggs, bacon, potatoes and toast that was exactly (or eggsactly?) what I was looking for. The tea biscuits with homemade lemon curd and whipping cream were absolutely to die for. I wanted to take a picture of them, but they disappeared too quickly. As such, I've attached a picture of the aftermath.

A wonderful experience in a cute hidden gem of Halifax. Despite living in the city for ages, this was my first visit and it was a true delight. Delicious, beautiful, but unpretentious food was prepared by Annie herself, quickly and served with a smile. Seating for a dozen or fewer, the shop has an eclectic collection of tables and chairs, along with hand-written chalkboard menu and decor around the shop - I found it all enchanting. 10/10 Would gladly recommend.

Annie is a lovely lady, and we enjoyed chatting with her. Her place is also very cute and cozy, with a great casual atmosphere. However the food quality and the price do no match up. Our simple breakfast of 2 eggs, toast, bacon, and hash browns was $13. Having experienced much bigger and better quality breakfasts all over Halifax on our trip (Cheeky Neighbour, Robie Street Station), you'd get better value elsewhere. I also wish that Annie herself would have cooked for us. She was training a waitress at the time, who overcooked the eggs and the toast, and only put 9 potato cubes on the plate. The bacon was excellent though. The girl offered to re-make them but we declined. I would say the meal warrants a $9 price tag. I also had a hot chocolate that was on the weak side, not all that chocolatey. Meeting Annie made up for much of the experience, she's a lovely lady.

We had a great breakfast, and didn’t have to wait despite the place indeed being tiny (maybe 5 tables, two of which were taken by regulars it seemed). Annie is very nice, and greets everyone personally; our waitress was very attentive. Everything is homemade (including bread), and tastes truly homemade. The serving size is just right. Coffee was good too. We will definitely return if in Halifax again. PS: Note that the pricing on their website is quite outdated, and they do take cards now:)

A very small but cute place, we decided to sit outside because it was just too hot and cramped. Staff was friendly enough, but that's about all I can say was a positive. I ordered bacon, eggs and toast, and a latte. I was excited for the homemade bread. Right from the start, the cook seemed discouraged about how fast she could get the order out. Not a concern, we're on vacation. But we didn't even get our drinks until after the food came. And that was the very first time I've ever had burnt coffee. I didn't know what burned coffee tasted like until today. The toast tasted like nothing, there was nothing or very little butter on it. I wanted my eggs over easy, they came out right but my bacon was very overcooked. I was just disappointed and couldn't drink the latte. I felt like we paid too much ($40) and wanted to ask for a refund for at least the coffees, but I felt bad doing that to a small business. I just went and grabbed coffee at McDonald's after. I'm sorry that I gave such a low rating, but I honestly don't think the good reviews are honest. There needs to be 1 more person probably helping out with the cooking, so the quality can improve and things don't come out overcooked or burned.

Beautiful experience. Been some time since i was prompted enough to write a review for a place. Annie herself is a lovely soul who treats everyone like family in her place and it genuinely feels like having food at home. Definitely check it out and you won’t be disappointed.

This off the beaten path location was a delightful and affordable neighborhood gem. The Western Omelet was a good size for an excellent price. The owner, Annie, was delightful. I recommend for an all day breakfast experience!!

I stepped off the plane at 745am, and I was at Annie's for breakfast by 9am! For my first visit to NS since COVID hit, I took my dad and his partner here for an absolutely delicious breakfast (and coffee). Annie was working - she took great care in whipping up eggs, ham and toast for me, an omelet for my dad's girlfriend, and eggs & bacon for my dad. The bread is home made and soooo tasty. I wish I could bring Annie & her breakfast back to Alberta with me!

I go to Annie’s as often as I can, I love all the food she makes & she makes me feel at home. The experience in this place is not of a restaurant but of a community full of love, joy & dedication. Annie’s recipes are amazing, she brings out the full potential of enjoyment in food unlike any place I have eaten before & and I think it’s because everything is homemade & every ingredient is chosen by her. Thank you so much Annie for sharing your food & experience with the world ♥️♥️♥️

Over many years this has been the place to go for a wonderful breakfast and even a more warm greeting from Annie herself. There are big chain breakfast places but in the long run you get local products here, from eggs, best bacon in town and homemade bread. Annie takes the time to get to know you and where you are from. She is the most down to earth person I have ever met. If you want a wonderful breakfast or lunch this is a place so read the positive reviews and ignore the negative ones cause they would complain about anything.
