This was one of the worst stays I have had. The parking was an absolute mess. I have stayed at this property roughly 4 times in the past few months and you are to park across the street in a gravel lot. This trip they have decided to hire valet that is only open from 7-5pm. And they use that lot. So they instructed me to park in the lot next door since I arrived so late. The next day I was told to park in that lot. The next morning I was trying to go to work, it was 7 and no one was there to unlock the fence, so my vehicle is now trapped and I was late for work as I waited for someone to get there and unlock it. I was then told that evening when I returned I could no longer park there and would have to use the metro lot a couple blocks further away. So I did, and I paid for my parking there. Next my last night around 3am some trap door in the ceiling above my bed fell in and covered me and the bed in water from god knows where. I decided to just get up shower and leave. When I said something upon check out, no resolution or anything was offered, just a oh no comment. I got my bill and noticed I was charged for valet parking for my entire 5 night stay when I was required to park at metro and pay there. When I said something about it I was told it would be removed, so they took off 3 nights and left 2. I complained and was told they would have a manager fix it and send and email receipt. This never came. I called the property again, they removed one. I got a receipt and saw there was still a parking charge. I called again and they said they would remove it and send me a receipt. That never came. I called again. I was given some excuse that they can’t do it until the next day. I called a number of times more and got no where, nor a receipt. It’s been weeks and still nothing. My credit card notified me it was refunded. I will not be staying here again. Definitely does not live up to the Hilton brand.

Unfortunately the front desk staff, save one nice lady, were very snooty and holier than thou. We were travelling as a large family with young children and they seemed to look down on us for that. We were extremely polite and friendly. Spending $1980 to stay in a hotel for the weekend and being met with attitude is NOT appreciated and totally uncalled for. We even left a generous tip for the housekeepers and were scoffed at by said front staff. The only saving grace of this hotel is the location. That being said, you cannot even park there, you have to use a lot across the street that is full at times. They will charge you $35 a day. Overall extremely disappointing stay due to the unnecessary smugness of the front desk staff. The two stars are for the two friendly housekeepers.

We had a great stay here. Nice large suite and helpful staff. Ideal downtown location. As Diamond members the breakfast in The Cannery was fully covered for our family of 4 which was incredible compared to the credit we thought we would get. The Cannery was surprisingly good for a hotel restaurant. We had 3 breakfasts there. The Smoked Salmons stack was particularly nice. Not sure I would go out of my way to eat there but was an upgrade over standard hotel breakfasts and restaurants. The restaurant staff was great with our kids as well. Carol and the rest of the team were lovely. Valet parking was the only option. We prefer the freedom of self parking.

Edit: manager made it right with a free meal including drinks at the newly renovated bar in the lower lobby. Amazing meal, unbelievable cocktails, great wine and all covered for us, with excellent service. Original review: I just had a major mishap at the Hollis hotel in our first room and we got moved to another room. An access panel fell from the roof of our bedroom onto our bed right where I was sleeping 5 minutes earlier which would have given me a nasty injury to my head or face. Luckily I had gotten up to go to the washroom when it fell. I had my work laptop there on the table when it fell and it had a container in it filled with dirty rusty water and a rag and it spilled all over the bed my charging cables, and my work laptop. When I called for maintenance and housekeeping to come and take a look, no one came for 20 minutes so I had to go to the lobby to again ask for them to come have a look... they gave me a new room right away but myself and my wife lost 2-3 hours of our work day along with the messy clean up of our stuff which is covered in god knows what, and got into the internals of my work laptop! Would very much appreciate the manager to contact us directly to make this right and will update this review. Up to this point we were having a wonderful stay, excellent and friendly staff, and the room was clean (up until that point). Thanks.

The hotel has potential and there are pros and cons to consider when booking. We had friends staying here at the same time and their room was much better but it seems to be hit or miss depending on your room. Pros: location is very central and you can walk everywhere you'd want to be in downtown Halifax very easily. The rooms are spacious and the bed was pretty comfortable with nice pillows. You can even get a harbour view depending on your room. Cons: the cleanliness of the room left a lot to be desired. Yes, I'm picky but it smelt like smoke, the surfaces didn't appear to have been thoroughly wiped. Our shower leaked, had pink mold that would be easy to take care of with a good scrub. There was also a large glass window in the shower with blinds installed inside and exposed to the water ( another great place for pink mold and mildew) the blinds didn't work and frosted glass would be a much better option. A little more attention to detail would go a long way. I asked for the room to be cleaned and it was but not fully. The toilet wasn't scrubbed and our towels weren't replenished. I called to ask for towels and they were never delivered.

Everybody here has been beyond just amazing!! So sweet! So accommodating. Truly.!!! I'm actually sad that I'm leaving . My room was freaking incredible. I got an upgrade and I didn't expect that and loved every minute of it! I stayed for five nights. I love the pool. I love the hot tub. I love the bartenders. I love the guys at the front desk. I love everybody that works in room service and the restaurant! I'm really grateful!!!! This is a high vibration. Amazing atmosphere. Super positive I would absolutely come back and it's near everything and it's right by the water. when I come back. I'm definitely staying here again xxxoo Thank you so much! I hope that you all at this hotel see this

Our stay was generally good other than the first night. We spent 1200 for one room, two nights. The manager on duty Friday evening was absolutely awful to my son. We complained to front desk who didn't know anything about the event until I brought my son down and then one staff member promptly remembered and apologized. The other desk worker stated she'd put it in her report. Nothing came of that. When I was prompted online to give a private review I responded with all of the details including the manager screaming at our son, elevator or bathroom, NO WHERE ELSE. While our two kids were buying snacks from the adjacent pantry. I was asked if I wanted a response and stated yes and have not ever heard from the hotel. These kids were not loud, disruptive or problematic. We were following them in after parking our vehicle. They were waiting for us initally in the lobby and told to get out while trying to buy snacks. I'm extremely disappointed for several reasons. We were apologized to but told there were no managers when we brought it to staffs attention even though there was a manager to berate our son minutes prior. We were told management is generally Monday to Friday. I gave a written complaint and never heard back. Prices were jacked to hell because of events going on in the city. The room was great the hotel was excellent the night staff were polite other than one denying events at first then later acknowledging them. I think that the lack of response is unacceptable. I would absolutely expect my children be treated with respect, as guests, if they were not hindering or bothering anyone. Especially given the outrageous and advantageous price gouging. Super super upset with our stay.

My group had a fabulous stay at The Hollis this week. Frictionless check in experience, beautiful clean room, good bed, make-up mirror (pet peeve- yaaaaay!), nice bath and shower (nice product- minimal waste) and room tidied each day. Va;let parking experience was excellent as well. Overall: top notch physical space, congenial and helpful staff, positive service culture and excellent location.

My husband and I stayed there for one week and the staff was amazing and super friendly. A special thanks to Stephen and Mary who were more than just helpful and personable. Being there for a week, made us feel like family. The manager, Will, was open to listening to a concern of ours and ensure he delivered his best to us as customers. I appreciate it when staff listen and work proactively to solve any issues. Vince, the bartender, had great suggestions for restaurants nearby and Pacifico Lounge. He was social and funny. This hotel is the perfect location to explore Halifax and see the tourist sites plus the waterfront and the Maritime Museum or Alberney Ferry - endless restaurants and shops around.

We were surprised at the overall terrible quality of this hotel. The AC in the rooms is broken. The rooms are dated and in poor condition. Cleanliness is lacking. Housekeeping is not provided during your stay unless you ask for it and getting more than two towels is difficult. Parking is an empty lot down the street with gravel and mud. Definitely would not recommend especially at the rates that they charge.

Although in a great location, this hotel has seen better days. Willing to overlook the 'well loved' furniture and water stains, our first room had a horrible smell. We were quickly moved to another room. The room was very warm so we turned the AC down and went off on a night out. On return the room was roasting. A very uncomfortable evening to say the least as the windows don't open. We decided that we needed to change hotels as we couldn't possibly survive another night. We took our concerns to the front desk and they were not surprised. Turns out the AC has not worked for two years. Apparently, this is business as usual. They also apologized for no hot water... When I told them the water was fine the said, 'nevermind'! Great location but do yourself a favour and walk down the street to the other Hilton.

We checked into this hotel three weeks ago for a nice weekend getaway to Halifax. We were excited to see the central location and the beautiful lobby. When we were checking in the clerk informed us the A/C wasn't working in the rooms and that there were no windows that would open. They said the A/C was out since last winter which we found surprising for a Hilton property as we've come to expect at least a minimum offering, especially at this price level. They did pay for a room up the street for us since the room was very hot and we didn't feel like we could stay.

The hotel is in a good location. However, the rooms were filthy. I requested a room change shortly after checking in, due to a strange odour in the room and the lack of overall cleanliness. The front desk staff promptly moved us to another room. Unfortunately, the new room was filthier. The bathroom sink had hairs, the two night stands were marked with cup ring residue; the fridge was dirty with crumbs and hairs; the counter next to the fridge was clearly not wiped.. overall, it was just awful. Additionally, one of the two complimentary water bottles was opened and clearly used. We politely raised our concerns to the different front desk staff the next day, and they told us that they would “look into it”. We didn’t hear back from them and no efforts were made to rectify the situation. We cleaned the room ourselves and left it cleaner than it was before we checked in. I cannot recommend this hotel to anyone.

The room was nice and the bed very comfy. Would HIGHLY recommend NOT staying here on weekends. There was a party on our floor that was ongoing until 5am, and despite calls to the front desk which went unanswered, it didn’t stop. When checking out, myself and another customer who stayed on that level both told the worker at the front desk it was absolutely insane and unacceptable, she said they tried to ask them to keep it down…

Location is great. Digital check-in and key is a great feature. Room was clean. Warmest weekend of the year so far and the AC was not working. Very little air movement in the room led to an awful sleep. We booked a king and was "upgraded" to two queens, which did not help the situation. Two ice machines would not produce ice, felt like I had to search the building for a working machine. To top off the stay the next morning we attempted a soak in the jacuzzi tub... To our suprise the tub was cold and the emergency shut off was pressed. We questioned a staff member they said they would contact maintenance but would take some time. So we packed our things and headed home. We have stayed at other hotels under the Hilton name with no complaints. Cheers

We booked two rooms for three nights on the weekend. First, let's start with the good - the staff, for the most part they were very pleasant and nice to deal with. They couldn't help with things out of their control but were nice about it. The hotel has also had some cosmetic updates but honestly it feels a little bit like 'putting lipstick on a pig'. The location was good but beware that it is rowdy on a weekend night in this part of Halifax. One books a hotel to get a good rest, period. That was not possible. The A/C was 'on the fritz' and was supposed to have been fixed but wasn't during the hottest weekend yet. It must have been close to 30 degrees C, or more, in the rooms despite the blinds being drawn. They offered a couple of small fans but, alas, the electrical outlets beside the bed had their own issues and the fans didn't help much anyway. At check-in, at 12:30am after a long day of travel, neither room was ready the way that it was supposed to be. The room category that we had booked was 'no longer available' so we had two double beds instead of a King, and the crib that was supposed to be in the other room, which was requested/confirmed three times in advance, had to again be requested repeatedly after we arrived. Other things broke like one of the two elevators for a few hours on a busy day, the tub didn't drain very well, one of the bar fridges didn't work, and we chose to wash parts of the room, like the bathroom door with our towels. As well, I dropped a vitamin on the floor and got a good look at what it is like under/beside the bathroom cabinet - yuck! Also, just a FYI that self-park is at an unsecured, off-site location. There is no valet. Anyway, do your research, it might be for you. We won't be back.

so clean so nice. They gave us free cookies, which were delish. The breakfast was sooo yummy. The staff was extremely kind and nice. The rooms where very clean and very beautiful. The beds where clean and comfy everything smelt so fresh. My only complaints are that the hallways smell like smoke and they should freshen up their pool room a bit because it looked kind of dingy and the ceiling is cracking and falling a bit. Other then that I would def recommend staying here it's amazing.

Stayed there a few times so far. Generally they do good services. Rooms are decent. Also this time, we stayed on Sept 9 2023, the front staff, Erika was extremely nice and thorough. I just wanted you guys to know this!

DISGUSTING! came here for my birthday with my boyfriend and i swear the tables, bathroom, literally everywhere’s was not cleaned or sanitized. tried to shower but there was still beard hairs (i hope it was and not something else) on the ledges of the bathroom and shower. i don’t know what goes on with staff here but this hotel will soon get a bad rep for cleaning. it should be there top priority considering covid is thing…. such a disgrace

The good: The location was amazing! It was located centrally and close to everything! Check in was easy! And the cookies they offer at check in were really yummy! The beds were comfy and clean. The bad: Hotel rooms were a bit old and not very clean. The tables were full of marks and stains. The bathroom smelled like old wet clothes. The cleaning can be significantly improved.

Beautiful hotel downtown. Close to waterfront. Steven at the front desk is an absolute gem. He's so helpful and always smiling. The King suite is huge, best shower in any hotel I've been too. We will always stay here.

This is the place to stay in downtown Halifax. The staff goes above and beyond to serve guests. The facility is great; the rooms are nice ,and the price is fair (not too high and also not bargain basement). I could write a long story about being stranded by Air Canada, whose service is nearly criminal, but instead I will focus on the incredible staff who helped us check in early (rooms were available) and then helped us remember our favorite coffee shop in the area and were just beyond helpful, kind, and courteous. I will stay here any time I need to be in downtown Halifax. Oh and the cookies are a joy.

Very nicely decorated. The sitting room light did not work. There was a dirty paper napkin on the back of the couch. The room had a very strong cologne smell. One of the pillows covers was wrinkle and that is where the strong cologne smell was coming from. I threw it on the floor. I notice the next morning, the outside of the toilet was not the cleanest so I figured I shouldn't take a shower, although I really needed one since I reeked of cologne. I really don't think the sheets were changed. Being in the hospitality industry, I can overlook a certain amount of things, but I would not stay there again. I checked out around 6am.

Location is great, rooms are big and the staff were very friendly. However, other reviews saying this place needs some TLC are 100% correct. Our bathroom light fixture and shower were slowly separating from the ceiling, the desk chair is so threadbare it probably came when the hotel was built and the accent chair in the room was falling apart. I feel like this hotel is pretty close to being a gem, but just needs some fixing up.

  • 1/5 Kt S. 2 years ago on Google
The staff was fine. But parking was an off-site, gravel lot. The shower reeked of mold and you could see it plus other stains. The sink didn't drain well. There's was toothpaste on the wall and other stains as well. They forgot to replace the shampoo. They didn't wipe down the bedside stand, I wonder if they cleaned it at all. I will never stay at a Hilton again.

  • 3/5 Darren M. 10 months ago on Google
The room was huge and I didn’t expect to have as many in room amenities. I also had a great view. However, the property’s air conditioning was broken when I visited and a heat wave had just ended so my room was very stuffy when I first checked in and the windows don’t open. Thankfully the outside heatwave broke but they didn’t have fans to offer but did comp two day’s worth of breakfast. I also noticed a lot of surfaces in my room had not been wiped down from previous guests and had several glass ring stains. The shower had a very strange smell that never went away. Housekeeping didn’t come at the planned times and then walked into my room well before checkout on the final day with little notice. The HVAC and housekeeping need some serious upgrades. I’m shocked to now look at other reviews and see that the HVAC has been broken for some time now!

We stayed, like some, during the hottest period in Halifax so far this year. Our AC did not work, making our first 2 nights terribly hot and difficult to sleep. We ordered extra towels 3 times over 2 days before we finally had some delivered. We asked for fans to help with airflow and received 2 space heaters that didn’t work. That said, great location and staff were very friendly. When I complained about my issues above, the hotel reacted to try and make it right. Not sure I would stay there again unless I had guarantees the AC works properly or they arrange to open a window.

We stayed 2 nights over Natal day weekend. the size of our room was great. needs were comfy. You could tell that they are lacking staff to be able to run efficiently. The front desk staff did well, but things were just slow. I waited 45 minutes for towels. if I'm checking in with 5 people, maybe just leave 5 towels in the room and not 2? The room keys never worked. Whether we used or digital key or not, We had to constantly ask for them to be reset. I saw others mention it g no air conditioning, but it working.

The room was great but unfortunately the a/c was down, which we did know about ahead of time, but we weren't offered any option to cancel the reservation as a result of that. The room was a sauna and we barely could sleep, it was so gross. If there had been a/c it would've been a great stay, the staff was very friendly and it had a nice gym. I will say the pool and hot tub water were quite murky which was suspicious.

Great hotel in a great location. Close to Maritime museum. There are lots of restaurants close by. We could see the bay from our room. There is a little sandwich shop and store across the street. front desk was very accommodating. Breakfast was good. Our suite was beautiful and roomy. It was more like a small apartment than a hotel room. Nothing to cook with, eat, or make a meal though. Kitchenware may have been cleaned out for covid. Great experience. I would definitely come back if I visit the city again

If I have a choice, I always prefer to stay in one of the hotels of the Hilton line. I chose this hotel because of its location by the waterfront in Halifax. I will start up by saying that the room was fantastic. It was large, the bed was comfortable, the bathroom also large. However, the person who checked us in was not understandable. He had a heavy accent (Hindi), spoke extremely quickly, and was not at all helpful as we were trying to figure out how to park our camper van. It is rare that I have a problem with someone's accent, but part of the problem was that he spoke so fast and had a very slurred speech that he was really incomprehensible to me. I do recommend if you get someone like that at the desk here, that you politely wait for the next check-in person. The other person that was on duty at that time seemed to be much more with it. We had asked that same person the next morning about whether we could get food at the Canada Day celebration down by the water and he absolutely had zero idea. So he was all in all. Not a really good person to have at a front desk. I previously called the hotel to make sure that there was a space that was going to allow us to park it in the hotel parking, as it's 3.5 m high and also rather long. So after a lot of trying, we figured out that we could use one of their outside lots, and we were able to finagle our camper van into a couple of spots of sideways. He also did not tell us that they no longer change your towels. Or that you had to tell them if you wanted your towels change before noon. And while it said that you had to tell them on a little note in the bathroom, it certainly didn't say that you had to do it by a certain time of day. And we didn't realize I didn't change the towels, because we were told that when we checked in, until we came back late in the afternoon after wandering around Halifax all day. So that was rather a disappointment. This is not the usual experience I have in Hilton's, and this hotel certainly is not cheap. I think they were aspects of the hotel that could use some updating. For example, they didn't have LED lights in the fixtures, so it was really rather dark in the rooms with the types of light bulbs that were in the various lamps, etc. While we didn't have the breakfast, I regret it. We ended up pay exactly the amount it would have been for an all-you-can-eat breakfast for two croissants and two cups of coffee at the closest coffee shop to the hotel. So my recommendation is, get the breakfast!

Stayed 5 nights (501 and 701) and was not impressed. The room had black mold in one corner by the heating system, shower was cold 1 of the 5 nights. No humidifier in the building and the air was very dry causing nose bleeds. The shower had a rain shower head that was dangling from the ceiling. Water was highly softened and was always white and had a strong salt taste. The lobby was always cold, and not worth the breakfast at $16. Parking ($25/night) was an issue for 2 of the 5 nights and needed to park in a garage further down the road with no in and out privileges. The front desk had to issue passes for this garage and does not tell people about this garage or what to do when their lot is full. Not to the normal Hilton standards. Staff appeared new and didn't care. Will not recommend nor stay here again.

If I could give 0 stars I would. The price we paid for our suite and the room/service we got is ridiculous. The welcoming was horrible starting from no close parking, but paying parking (25$/day) then our card was not working had to go back downstairs…The worst thing was the A/C not working for our stay and the heat stuck ON. No fan, the windows don’t open. No joke it was at LEAST 25 in the room. When we tried to cancel our next night because it was way too hot to sleep we were told we couldn’t get refund. So we stayed there at 300$ / night just to not sleep. Also, the restaurant was closed for renovations (which would have been nice to know when we called for booking). PLUS, breakfast is not included and 15$ for cold breakfast. Don’t even try to buy a bottle of water they charge 10$!! We didn’t even have room service the whole stay. WHAT AN HORRIBLE HOTEL NO SERVICE AT ALL. Its so frustrating because we paid money to get quality, which was not delivered. The only good thing was location (close to everything) but there is like 10 other hotels around you can go! Don’t waste your money at Hollis.

So good, room is nice. Clean and well stocked. Bad, location is terrible if you have a car. They charge 25$ a night for an unpaved, non secure outdoor parking downtown. Insane. Calling the front desk from outside the hotel typically takes 3-5 tries. All in all.. its okay. 3500$ for 7 nights.. breakfast not included in that haha. I'll gladly stay there if work pays again sure, but not on my own dime.

The only good thing about this place was the Bartender and one of the breakfast staff. They were super nice. The rest of the staff were rude and acted like it was an inconvenience to have you there. They tried to put us in a smaller room. They charge separately for everything, including breakfast which was very pricey and not anything to brag about. They don't have on-site parking either, it's a parking garage about a block down the street. It felt like a waste of money, and believe me, they want a lot. Definitely not worth it at all and won't be back.

The layout of the suite was nice and staff we encountered were nice. BUT the room was dirty! There was dust EVERYWHERE, the bed, couches, tables, floor was not swept. The curtain was ripped. The tissue in the tissue box was yellow (probably from it being old) It seemed like the room had not been cleaned right before we checked in. We woke up feeling sick and sneezing from how dusty the room was. We requested for the sheets to be changed at least but we were so tired that we didn’t want to have to request for the room to be cleaned , we shouldn’t have to ask, it should have been done before we checked in (especially since we were in the room the whole time). Digital key on phone had issues as well as the card key and we had to reset it. When my boyfriend reset the card key in the front desk, they said we had to do it every 4hrs? Pool was okay, seemed clean but it was small, as well as the hot tub area and fitness center Breakfast we paid - $40 for two after tax, nothing impressive, it was okay. Location is not the best as the dropping off area is small and that street is small as well so you could have a hard time unloading luggage if you are being dropped off

  • 2/5 mohamed B. 1 year ago on Google
I have checked into this hotel, and right there on the bed, found hairs of someone who’s been sleeping there before I have. The hotel clearly did not change the sheets before i arrived. I called the front desk and after explaining, the front desk guy just came up and gave me keys to another room. And it didn’t feel like the apology was very sincere. I would recommend that you check your pillows thoroughly on both sides once you check into the room to see if there is any signs of hair. But I wont be staying here again, unless I absolutely have to.

Great location, big rooms, comfy bed. The Hilton Honors App is great for a self check-in and mobile key. I would encourage downloading it and becoming a member before your arrival. The location is on a one way street so my stay was quiet and not so busy street traffic. The parking is my least favorite. They no longer offer valet service so this was a challenge. Their outside parking lot is across and down the street which is very inconvenient with luggage and cold in the winter. There is no security so it's park at your own risk and it still costs $25 a day. Previously, I paid this for valet parking at this hotel. It's annoying and troublesome. The front desk staff were helpful and friendly. No warm cookies on arrival. I enjoyed the pool and whirlpool to myself both times I went. The whirl pool is very challenging to get in and out of for older people are those with limited mobility like myself. Looks like it was installed wrong with the steps in placed at a 90° angle to the handle bar. The area was clean and lots of nice chairs and towels to sit in. The fitness centre had modern equipment. I didn't use it though. The room I had was a king 1 bedroom and wasn't very cozy. The bed was wrinkled but the rainfall shower was wonderful and the mattress comfortable. Update: stayed again. Warm cookies on arrival, neat and tidy bed, stayed in king studio harbour facing. Much more cozy. Service at front desk was excellent and very friendly.

The King Size bed was so comfortable! The room was an interesting and unique shape. Nice pool and hot tub too! Had to park half a block away. Probably normal for a downtown hotel tho. Very happy with our stay. Very close to everything! Photo I posted is a view looking up the street from the hotel.

We were booked at another Hilton hotel but due to the storm that hit Halifax this week, they did not have power so they sent us to The Hollis Halifax. The staff were friendly and helpful. We walked into our room and were amazed by the size! it was beautiful! We had a wonderful stay and would definitely recommend to anyone. Breakfast was great too!

The suite we stayed in was bigger and nicer than we expected, based off of the website photo. Their AC was not working while we were there, but the hotel communicated this to us, and are working to have it fixed. It was a comfortable temperature anyway. We would definitely stay here again, and would recommend it to others.
