Went here because I was in excruciating pain that I was pretty sure was a bad uti. The doctor didn’t believe me, said I was most likely fine just tummy trouble but would do a test anyway. I ended up going to the hospital because it turned into a kidney infection and a week later they called me to say I had the uti I suspected and should come in for meds. I had to explain I already got them from elsewhere because they slacked. Never had a urinalysis take a full week like that before.

Healthcare in NS is broken and many physicians rotate in and out of walk-ins so there's no point in 'reviewing' the long waits, the knowledge or empathy of the staff, or even the outcome of the visit. This clinic was clean, had a reasonable amount of seating, and is conveniently located inside a grocery store and next to a pharmacy (literally three steps away). They have signs now to take a number before you register however it would make more sense to have this near the front so there's no fight through the door. It would also be helpful to have signs outside the door that indicate there are shifts for the walk-ins (i.e. 10am-3pm and then 5pm-9pm). I would suggest a rule whereby seating is reserved for patients and not the three other family members who choose to stay with them (children excluded obviously) and don't even go inside the room with them. I liked how they had a radio playing to numb the silence but more reading material would have been nice (and not advertising pamphlets from pharmaceuticals).

(I've been there 11 times)They can not be held responsible for the amount of us who need to see a doctor, they are only rated on the clinic overall. I have had to wait in a line 2 hours prior to opening, sure but again, NS Healthcare lack of family doctors. The staff were very efficient and offered information despite being overwhelmed with patients. Once it was my turn i was greeted kindly and spoken too with respect. I found the front end staff delivered exceptional service. The exam rooms are standard & clean in my personal experience. The physicians were professional and kind. I didn't feel rushed and appropriate medical service was always delivered. That's why I said 5

Trying to get a doctor's note for work, I was charged $30 by Dr. Zita Jack and told I'd get a call the following day in regard to picking up my note. Didn't receive a call Friday, Sept 9, went in to inquire into my note today, they had no idea what I was talking about and then proceeded to try and charge me an additional $30 for ANOTHER Dr's note. It turns out that Dr notes are only $20 too, so. On top of those issues they have put James on the medical forms (blood work, prescription and a few others) when that's not even my name...I'd recommend avoiding this clinic at all costs.

I came here on a Friday at 4.37pm and I was told that the clinic closes at 4.30pm and the doctor had left. Meanwhile it says they close by 8pm on the map. I came back on Saturday at 11.40am and I was told that the doctor for shift 1 stopped accepting patients at 11.30am and I will have to come back by 1pm before I can see the next doctor. I asked if I can wait in the clinic and was told I can’t. I wanted to asked how is the process like and if I have all the is required but was told to just still come back. I came back by 1.30pm and was told to pick a number and wait, when it got to my turn I presented my insurance plan and was told they don’t accept it here which seems inaccurate. I called my provider and they said it up to the clinic to accept or refuse it. The receptionist said I can still see the doctor for $50. I was just angry because she should have told me since instead of wasting my time here. She said afternoon shift doctors stop attending to patients by 4pm and clinic closes by 4.30pm Was just upset.

Google told me they were open until 8:00pm. The pharmacist at Shoppers sent me to a clinic asap because my blood pressure was so high. The woman at the desk talked down to me as if I were personally offending her by walking in and not realizing they weren’t taking any more patients for the day. I hope you see this review and consider that people walking in are sometimes scared and in so much pain that maybe they don’t see your signs. I was very kind, and honestly embarrassed and confused by her lack of compassion and tone with me. If you don’t like your job - quit. This seems to be so common with desk staff at medical clinics. It’s awful.

The Doctor guy is pathetic, Gives me wrong treatment in my eye. By saying I Have an eye infection, When I visit the optometrist they found a metal chip in my eye. So in my view Don’t visit this place.

Waited over 2 hours to get registered because you have to be there at least a half hour before open to have a chance at getting seen and almost 3 in total to see the dr who immediately told me she doesn't fill out forms and I should have asked the receptionist. Even if I did I still would have wasted 2 hours of my time before I got to speak to the receptionist. Why they would have doctors that don't fill out forms is beyond me but I am now out 3 hours of time and the doctor gets paid for our 30 second visit.

This site said open until 8pm. Got someone to drive me (drop me off) down here. They are closed! The sign on the door handle said full. Came back on here and it said closing soon, even said not busy. There is a sign on the door that said closed at 4:30 for the month of August. Yes I guess they aren't busy! It might not seem like a big deal but it is to someone who doesn't drive or someone who had to get a sitter etc. It only takes a minute to adjust the time schedule on here!

Worst clinic in Halifax. I have couple of reasons from my experience. 1) the receptionist is very rude. They are not concerned about the patient. Even if you are going to die they don't care. They are not even ready to listen completely the reason for vist. Always seems to busy but not in reality. 2) you never know the doctor is on vecation. You can only make sure the availability of doctor after waiting for 5 hrs in line. I came to see at least 5 times and only got lucky to see the doctor 1 time. I an very disappointed of waisting my 5 days. I only went there became my blood work is with them and it will take another couple of days if i went to different clinic. But finally i had no other option than to change this clinic. Please visit a different clinic if you can.

In contradiction to most of the reviews, my experience was quite good. There is usually a big queue for this clinic. You need to arrive 1 hour before the opening time. If you get a seat outside, you have a chance. If all the waiting seats are occupied and you have to stand, you are possibly too late. The lady in the reception was nice. He gave one token to each, then called them one by one to get their healthcare information. Doctor was good. He spent a good amount of time with each patient. There is no charge for regular treatment. If you are there for a special purpose like driving licence medical test, you have to pay. The only problem is getting the clinic open. I had to return for two days because they were closed. Sometimes they update on the website, sometimes they don't. Check their website before leaving home, to have a better chance of finding it open.

Yes there is a long wait (but this is not just a problem that they are facing, every doctor is booked fully). The system they have in place actually allows for same-day appointments and does not make you wait forever to not even get to be seen. Dr. Jack is incredible. Even though the waiting area is packed, she is thorough and makes sure to get your medical history plus your symptoms to come to a diagnosis you are satisfied with.

I had a good experience at this clinic, I've waited for a long time, yes, yet the receptionist and doctor were very kind and professional. As for the physician who took care of me, she was amazing. She tooked charge to get some blood test results that I was waiting for 3 weeks. She called me back the same day and they printed me a copy. And they silence to good music 😊

Really had bad experience with this clinic. Nobody cares. Got wrong info from token distributor and I took only 1 token. My wife and daughter were both sick but I ended up showing only daughter after half day of wait. Receptionist is so rude that it will definitely ruin your day. Expect wait time of 5 hours at least. Tips for newcomers: Make sure you be in the queue and don’t let anyone dwell near your seats. Sit on the chairs adjacent to the clinic wall and not the opposite ones. Only 25-30 tokens are distributed. Always check medimap app for the clinic availability. Calling clinic is of no use across Canada as per my personal experience. Even if you are not feeling well, be ready for minimum wait time of 4-5 hours, so bring your food/drinks with you. All the best if you ever need to visit this clinic.

Lost wallet, and was awaiting my health card in the mail. Unfortunately, I’ve dealing with a really bad chest infection which started and have been struggling to breathe. Waited for an hour, received a number in line. Then, was refused services because I had never been to this branch of their clinics, and didn’t have my health info with me. However, I have been to other branches in the same clinic family, and know patient identification systems are interlinked in 2023. Was told basically tough luck by the front desk, and that it would be too challenging for them to treat me. I begrudgingly agreed. Then, after getting home and speaking with my primary physician, they were quite upset. As no one tried to contact them for my health card info or even asked me who my family doctor was. Never even gave me any alternatives for getting receiving health services. Luckily, my Dr managed to squeeze me in tomorrow between patients. I hope no one else has to deal terrible services this place provides to its patients.

I really have bad experience. I am pregnant with 2.5 months when I walked this clinic and my blood test was done on 1st of August so that they can transfer me to IWK but still I am waiting for my reports.. it’s just positive or negative test.. tried to call them but every time they ask information center and enter access code even they didn’t provide any code to me.. even I walked atleast 10 times but every time they say we don’t have your reports.. really ridiculous… now I am 3.5 months pregnant and still no scan, no family doctor.. what is that???? If they lost my reports, they should inform me do that I can go for re-test but this is really worst clinic.

I am a newcomer to Halifax and not familiar with the health system in Nova Scotia yet. After so many failures to get in walk-in clinics, I have realised all I have to do is to confirm opening time and have a luck. I ran into this clinic at 1pm(the exact opening) on Tue, it was already full. However, I made sure the opening time for the next day, and went to the clinic 30 mintues ahead of it, so I got it. Staff and a doctor were great. It can be brutal but, they are efficient and I would thank this clinic.

The receptionist here is always patient and kind in my experience. Must be hard to keep up with such a busy clinic and so many sick people waiting so long day after day. It goes a long way for sure so kudos to her!

This is extremely outrageous when we get to the clinic at 7 am for the clinic that opens at 11 am and the wall sings says they will be open today and there is a big line waiting for more than 4 hours and still the clinic is closed and no one know if the clinic will open or it will be closed for the day! Imagine being sick and wait for all time and still the Dr won’t show up! No receptionist and no dr is there!! I feel so empty and stressed and caused me anxiety depression!

Doctor made a mistake with my vaccinations and gave me more problems. She gave me varicella and tdap vaccines together, and gave me MMR after a week. I went to another clinic and they told me it shouldn't be given at those intervals, so now my MMR vaccine is not working. Clinic denied to have received my blood work results even after two weeks i got it done. Will never return or I will not recommend to my friends. Do they really know what they're doing?

The front staff was very polite and she manages the checkin process quite well inspite the clinic always being overbooked. The doctor is really good and takes his time to clearly diagnose. Had a great experience overall.

My doctor here aplarently sent me an email stating he was leaving t his practice here, after he just moved here from the UK and he left. Not his fault canadian health care left him with no other option. Ive been through 3 or 4 GPs in the last 5 years. None want to stay in NS or Canada. Thanks Canadian govnt for mispending our money.

I have been here over the last 5 years. The doctor I seen here was amazing and I'm pretty sure he saved my life. I'm going again today and hope to see Dr Djame. With the pandemic we are lucky we still have the Joseph Howe clinic. It's worth the wait when you get help

Arrived at 10:15 and was told to wait and I would be given a number to see a doctor after 1:00. At 12:30, we were informed the doctor would not be coming in after lunch and told to leave.

Went to this clinic because their website showed "Live: less busyt than usual". Got there to find the clinic full, a sign on the door saying no more people being seen and a line up of people outside tthe door wondering what the hell to do. Same as the last time I went here.
