Really impressive building, especially the huge elevators are very fascinating, as are the entire dimensions of the Elbe Tunnel. It's amazing what was possible in terms of construction technology back then.

Nice to take part in a free activity and an historical piece of the city. Can choose to take the elevator down (there is also a modern elevator on the main city side that tourists dont know about) or you can walk down. View old the city from. The opposite side of the river.

A free activity you can do in the city. It's an old commuter tunnel under the river Elbe. It's not as deep as you would expect, there are large elevators down, with smaller modern ones at the side entrance. Bikes and e-scooters tend to wizz by on the centre road with pedestrians on either side. Well worth a visit when in Hamburg

Cool way to cross the river. And it’s for free. Amazing. Bring a jacket. It gets cold.

A cultural monument that has been preserved or restored in almost its original form. There are currently no cars and only the left tube is accessible by foot or bicycle. Friendly staff. During the day you can go up and down in the big old elevators, a special experience with a nostalgic flair. You definitely have to see it when you are in Hamburg.

The Old Elbe Tunnel was the first river tunnel on the continent - and became necessary because the growth of the port of Hamburg shifted increasingly to the southern side of the Elbe and required improved transport connections. Worth seeing, over 400 m long.

Going through the old Elbe tunnel is worth it for many reasons. On the one hand, the historic tunnel and especially the old large elevators are very worth seeing, the tunnel is really well preserved (one tube has just been renovated, the other is currently closed due to renovation work). On the other side is the Steinwerder viewpoint with a great view of the Hamburg skyline (Landungsbrücken, Michel, Elbphilharmonie). When the weather is good, the place invites you to linger and there is the “Brücke 10” snack bar with delicious fish sandwiches. Even if the old Elbe tunnel is often quite full (because every tourist goes through it once), it's always nice.

Non-skipppable place in Hamburg. It’s crazy to thing the amount of earth and water above you while you calmly walk there. However, a bit too overcrowded

You can cross the river by this underground tunnel and on the other side you can either go back through it again or get a ferry.

It is very impressive to see what was created back then. The tunnel is well preserved. You can use both the old freight elevators and normal elevators. The tunnel is also accessible by bike. There is a viewpoint from the other side. Definitely worth it and costs nothing.

It's pretty nice there, the air quality is okay, but unfortunately it's very dirty
