There's a lot of sand everywhere. I've never been in a camp like this -- so much sand! A trip to the toilets take ages because you have to plough through the sand. Seriously, you plan your trips through the sand, and almost cry if you discover you forgot your toothbrush (you can follow the ancient Romans and brush your teeth with sand, though - there's plenty sand available). Dragging your bicycle in and out is a great exercise for your muscles - because of the sand. There's no way you can get in your tent without bringing some of the sand in. (Assuming you can pitch the tent at all - the sand won't hold your pegs.) You cook your pasta or make some salad and ... well, you got the picture. But when you get used to it the camp starts getting amazing. We were there at the time of some children festival and it was full of families with small children - the camp was essentially one huge playground. People were open and nice, children playing with each other (ours learned some German in the process) facilities are reasonably good. I thought we'd survive one night and escape, but then spent two and rather liked it. Although there is, as I might have mentioned, some sand.

Good - if you are prepared. Tenting in the sand. Dusty. Car must be parked elsewhere. All gear must be carried in. Very busy and noisy. Good for kids. Good for dogs. Facilities were busy. Needs more outdoor showers. Check in could have been friendly and more informative. Easy beach access. Very chill vibe overall.

Cosy camp grounds and cafe/Imbiss tucked into the space between the Elbe and the steep hills covered in large trees makes this campsite seem protected and intimate. Amenities for tent campers and campervans. Beach. Playground. Activities. Camping.

Best camping place for miles! Always pleasant staff and terrific guests. Beautiful view of the river. Good food at Cafe Lukas, but wish they always had a vegan option. Otherwise, paradise.

Great scape place from Hamburg scene and noise. Public transport get really close to some of the entrances, there are places to eat or even 10 minutes away supermarkets and restaurants. Go with time to enjoy and explore this amazing place

Very, very busy when I was there. No vehicle access to ‘free for all’ tent pitches and you will need sand pegs for a tent. Bathrooms were ok - they were doing their best to keep up. Nice, friendly staff and camping neighbors. It was interesting to watch the huge ships pass by on their way to Hamburg.

Friendly site and staff. The majority of the pitches are on soft sand. A play area for the kids, nice cafe/bar (reasonablish prices) and clean modern facilities although not the hottest water. Direct access to bike path leading into Hamburg (15km).

An excellent experience, considering we were so close to the big city of Hamburg. Here we were on the banks of the river, with massive ships going by. Perfect way to start off the trip to Nordkapp, lots of things for people to do. We hung up our hammocks no problem. Very clean and tidy campsite.

You cannot park your car close to the camping site, meaning that you need to carry all your stuff to your camping spot over more than 300 meters, walking in the sand, which pretty much kills the experience from the beginning if you have to go and back several times. All the pitches for the tents are on a sandy ground, meaning that the tent and all your stuff will be full of sand immediately. The tents are really close to each other, so you have zero intimacy and can hear all conversations. The playground is less good that any public playground in hamburg. And it's expensive : 30 euros for the night for one small tent, 2 adults and a child, and a parking spot. The people are nice and friendly though and the view on the Elbe is quite nice.

The sun was shining and the kids can still run around and play with the sand. Is not so cold

The camp is really nice but since the moment we mentioned our nationallity during check-in things got hostile and we then realized during our stay that we weren't treated right and weren't offered with the whole services the camping has. From the start we were told there was a posibility we weren't allowed to stay just for being uruguayans. We thought it was some kind of missunderstanding as other friends were in touch with staff from the camp and trying to book aswell, and there's some kind of policy where there can't be more than 6 people reunited as it's a quiet place after 10pm (which is not completely true as we heard loud music and microphones, so...) and supposedely having all of us togheter would be a problem. Our friends were told there wasn't space available for them, which is not true because tents kept arriving over the weekend. So that was totally arbitrary. We were told we couldn't let our car in the camp when there's a parking lot for campers next to the entry and it clearly had space for plenty of cars. We had to let our car in a public parking almost 1km away with no security at all. We weren't offered anything to help us carry our baggage from the entry to the tent pitch witch is at least 100m from the reception and over the sand, and again, we saw how other people arriving later than us had access to sleds to carry their stuff. And finally, we notified our intention to leave before 8am (time of reception opening) and were told we would lose our deposit for tent identifiers. When we checked in we were told there wasn't any problem to leave before 8am if we notified previously, which we did, and no one mentioned about the lose of deposit. It was 7:45 and the reception woman saw us getting ready to leave, we thought we could return the identifiers and get the deposit back as an employee was already present in the instalations, but we couldn't find her anywhere though we asked several people and searched for her. I hope you guys enjoy the 20 euros. We hadn't our best time here and felt discriminated. It was really our only option to stay in Hamburg for the weekend but we definitely don't recommend. And to our fellow uruguayans who might be reading this and come to Hamburg every year, don't stay in here.
