(Translated by Google) Really worth seeing and a place with history! Impressive building, also from the size, I was very surprised and enthusiastic. Once here, there are so many possibilities to start hiking from here and or further! Torfhaus, Brocken, Salzsteig, Kaiserstadt, pioneers to name just a few, absolutely worthwhile! When visiting the Harz, don't forget!

Wandernadel checkpoint no. 1 is reached by crossing the Ecker dam. The reservoir was constructed during WWII, using forced labour (including POWs), to meet increased water demand for the Braunschweig and Wolfsburg area with its newly opened Volkswagen Plant. Crossing the dam we can see the old East-West border post. The area has nice views of the Brocken and good hiking. A good path runs alongside the Ecker leading to the reservoir.
