Small, cozy space, nice drinks, and a loud bar atmosphere. First Visit. The service was really good . We started with the cauliflower appetizer, which was tasty but spicy. My wife had the tacos, and I had the chicken and waffles. Wasn't crazy about the chicken and waffles. My wife loved her tacos with the little spice they offered. It's definitely a great place to get beverages, whether it be beer, wine, or hard liquer. Second Visit. Service and food just as good as the first visit. We were lucky enough to have Melissa as a waitress for her first under the wathful eye of Amy who was also our server the the first Visit. Amy is awesome. This time we have a burger, chicken corn chowder soup, poutine with bacon and the beersmisu. All is highly recommended.

I know there are lots of places to eat in Royal Oak, but this place is my favorite. Hot, fresh sliders, delicious shoestring fries all in a cute, quaint setting. When you're done here, go next door and get an ice cream sandwich. You won't be disappointed.

We really enjoyed their outdoor patio, they’re nonalcoholic and vegan options, and their fries. The chicken sandwich with pesto was so amazing, the vegan hot honey chicken had kind of a tough texture.

There are not enough stars in the world to do Ale Mary's justice. Such amazing plant based food. Came with a friend who tasted my impossible burger and chicken and waffles, and he said my plant based meal was so good he was getting it next time. The service is great, the place is adorable, and the manager even came by to say hello. He recognized from coming so often! It's the perfect spot for a quick lunch, fun happy hour, date night, or dinner with a group. If only every restaurant could follow suit. 10K stars.

So besides waiting FORever FOR everything the burger that the Men's Journal rated in the top 25 in the Nation must have at least been 25th because it was nothing whatsoever to write home about. They said they have beer battered french fries which sounded amazing but they're just regular french fries with a few crispy bits on the outside. Not sure where the hell the beer batter comes in. Boring to say the least, overpriced and underwhelming but they're in the proper place for that. Speaking of proper place, we asked for a wine list, the server said he'd be back as soon as he was done writing it down for us.. Pretty much the beginning of the waiting. This place is tight if your at all claustrophobic, or want to be socialize with your table and not the ones next to you. The main walkway in front of the bar is not only dangerously tight but also a trap, sat for 30 seconds it felt like while a line of customers and staff went through, just trying to come back from the bathroom once. Right between two group of tables also so was real apologetic to them. Cram them in though, real estate in RO has gone through the roof, and this is what happens when an individual owns three restaurants right next to each other, you become a sardine. Well, we don't go out that way often so a little less often now. Oh yeah, the lighting was messing with me photos! Oh and by wait I should clarify, we ordered two burgers with fries and it took over an hour, no explanation from our server or apology whatsoever. We were at the busiest possible time it seemed because after we got our food and were ready to leave, quickly, the place had died down as you can see in the pics because it was almost 10 and we got there at 7:30.

So good! This is vegan comfort food. The waitstaff was attentive and made great suggestions. The milkshake was awesome!...added some rum to make it grown up😋 We tried 3 apps...Buffalo Cauliflower was by far my favorite. Not soggy and the flavor was on point. The onion rings were really crispy... needed some Seasoning but the vegan ranch made up for it... same for the pickles. The Nashville Chicken sandwich was amazing!!! Not to spicy, just the right amount of heat. It was so good my non vegan boyfriend wished he had ordered my sandwich. I can't wait to go back and try more items. Love that one whole side of the menu is vegan!

Minus two pieces of cauliflower and 2 pieces of fried pickle , this cost me $75 tip included. This is insanity and such a rip off. I used to love coming here but will not return with these prices . Y’all are really taking advantage of people, I don’t know how you sleep at night.

It was a great night with family and my gf. I booked a reservation that fell through but the hosting staff still found a way to accommodate us. It was amazing. Our server, Barry, was great. He was upbeat, fun, and chill. Thanks for the great evening leading to Thanksgiving.

I got 2 vegan dishes here. The chickpea pasta and the Mediterranean bowl with quinoa and chickpeas. They taste good, but are really expensive for the quantity of food they give (check out the picture of the bowl and how its filled below half of the box), I literally felt ripped off because of that. I would understand the cost if the quantity was enough but we payed $15 for the bowl and we still had to buy food elsewhere to get full.

I'm disgusted. I got at least two pieces of wood in my deep-fried chicken sandwich. I definitely swallowed a chunk of it. I spit out my next bite to find a piece of stick in the pictures posted. This was part of larger order everyone else didn't notice anything off, with what they ordered. I called up there, honestly really didn't seem to care. Check your food carefully 🍔👀👀👀

They have good drinks and generous pours. Food, however... We sampled seven different plates and they ranged from OMG to meh. The OMG: Mark Cuban Chicken Sandwich Lobster roll Fried pickles The meh: Corn chowder (Luke warm, congealed) Cobb salad (didn't come with bleu cheese, serious lack of dressing, definitely needed red onion and why the ham???) Nachos (doritos? Awesome. Everything else was bland and dry)

Came for the Christmas pop up, love the decor and festive atmosphere! We tried and loved the Christmas special milkshakes! We got starters - fried mcclures pickles and beer cheese dip with pretzels was so good, great for sharing! Portion size for their brunch menu is huge! Especially my crispy fried chicken sandwich! Will definitely be back next time!

If you only go for the Buffalo Cauliflower, it would be worth it. It was amazing and we should have just stuck with that and been happy. My Impossible Burger was just okay. I've had them at other places and been very impressed, so this was disappointing. My friend had the beer cheese burger and was likewise unimpressed. Neither of us cared to finish our food. The chocolate strawberry shake came out tasting and looking nothing like a chocolate strawberry anything. It had a raspberry on top! After one sip I was sure I had gotten the wrong thing, but was (fairly aggressively) told "we're out of strawberries and that's exactly what the shake is supposed to be". But then they took it back and it was replaced with a sort of chocolatey strawberry drink that had newly found strawberry on top (still not chocolate covered though). My friend's drink too so long to arrive that it was free. All around just a blah time. Blah

I ordered to-go through UberEats. I ordered the Mac N Cheese as an entree and received what was at most a side dish portion. The dish was also more mac than cheese and not up to the $14.50 price it demanded. The Fish and Chips had decent portions for the fish but not the chips. The fish was also under (not at all?) seasoned, which left us disappointed with how that dish turned out. My 8 year old, who does not like her food overly spiced, even mentioned how bland it was, so you know it was lacking. Overall, my daughter and I were supremely underwhelmed by the meal and regret not taking the time to cook for ourselves.

Ate at Ale Mary's Royal Oak this weekend and had their Vegan Triple Decker with Hot Honey & Korean Shrimp. The fries and chicken were nice and crispy. The shrimp tasted just like the sea that even grossed out my seafood hating husband even when it's vegan 😆 Bit pricey but pretty good if you got that itch for vegan bar food that's more than just an plant-based burger patty.

We were at Royal Oaks for the day, and decided to have sit down dining, instead of grabbing fast food and heading back to the other side of the state. We googled food in the area and thought Ale Mary's was a promising spot as there were TONS of vegan options, and my husband is vegan. Parking was just as you'd expect in the city - metered street parking. Downtown was vibing, lots of great energy, people having fun. We didn't have a reservation, but we were seated immediately outside. It was a beautiful evening, so we didn't mind at all. We were right up to the street, but didn't feel that the cars were too close. The server greeted us a few minutes after we sat down - I'd say after 5-7 minutes. Server handed us our menus and water, pushed the alcohol, suggested my 14 year old look at the milkshakes and left. Never took a drink order. He came back maybe 10 minutes later and took out order, and we had to tell him, we'd like something other than water. The food took forever. I saw a couple of tables the restaurant next door (Mesa), sit down way after we sat down, order, eat and leave before we even got our food! 2 Tables! It was about 1 hour from the time we arrived until we got our food. I got the fried chicken sliders, my son got chicken and waffles, And my husband got the vegan chorizo tacos. The Vegan tacos were so much better than the chicken dishes. The fried chicken was bland. You can taste that the chicken had not been brined or flavored with any spices. The "secret recipe" batter was also bland. All I tasted was oil. The restaurant was depending on their sauces, and even the sauces didn't do the job because there wasn't enough of it. The vegan tacos were amazing though. I had a taste of my husband's dish and it was amazing. When the server came back, we were not done, but asked for the bill. We were running behind schedule due to how long the food took and wanted to stop a Astoria - the bakery a couple of doors down (be sure to see my review of Astoria). FYI, it appears the three restaurants that had seating outside are all owned by the same folk/s. 2 Shared same kitchens, space (separated by a wall). Ladies, heads up- only one restroom for ladies in 2 of the three spots. (I didn't see the 3rd location), so expect a long wait. Three stars because the cookie monster vegan milkshake and vegan tacos were amazing.

In my Experience I didn’t like it maybe they just good for bar food I ordered the vegan pasta and it was the most disgusting pasta I’ve ever had. I know it’s vegan but make it taste good!!! Put some good sauce something! The portion was soo small and the bar tender was not welcoming to me. This is a what I had for $18 after only having a few bites from the right side

I wasted $20 for a vegan burger and side of fries. The burger was tiny and I received a handful of fries. I actually needed to eat something else at home for dinner after spending $20 on a carry out 😡. Very disappointing!!!

My friends and I love coming here for drinks and vegan friendly options. My gf and I are vegan and like trying everything off the menu; we also share vegan appetizers with our friends to let them know what they're missing lol. Jokes aside, the only thing that leads me to take one star off the review is the fact that the menu is small. What they do have is so yummy, but also not the healthiest because the majority of the menu is fried or on the greasier side. Great for bar food, but some more lighter options would make for a 5 star business !!

Fun Saturday night! Came in to see the Jingle Christmas pop up. Loved the holiday vibe, decorations and fun seasonal drinks. There is also a huge selection of vegan menu options. Tried the vegan crispy shrimp bowl, Mele Kalikimaka drink and vegan gingerbread shake for dessert. Service and food was great and loved the Hawaiian Santa Christmas mug. Highly recommend reservations to avoid a long wait.

A very regrettable experience. It felt like their kitchen was allergic to spices and didn't know how to make good food. The atmosphere was nice, a combo between brewery and dinner club. The service was friendly. That's about all the good things I can say. After being iced out for 20 minutes before getting our first beers, I still had hope for the tasty sounding menu items. That hope was soon crushed. The beer cheese burger was highly mediocre, although the patty was cooked perfectly there was simply no flavor apart from the little beer cheese spread over it. There were two cherry tomatoes stuffed under the patty alongside some spring mix for some reason, like someone tried to force a salad onto the sandwich. A very forgettable burger. Their crispy chicken sandwich was by far the worst part. The huge fried chicken tasted like a grease bomb and left a horrible aftertaste in our mouths long after we abandoned the dish. There was not a pinch of seasoning anywhere, so you are left with the taste of grease, bun, and maybe a bit of pesto. The beer was good, although $12 for a snifter just doesnt feel right.

My friend is Vegan, so she picked this place since she had lots of vegan options and I had plenty of omnivore options... but the vegan menu all sounded tasty so I ordered from that also. We shared the Vegan Carnival... basically an appetizer sampler...and we were so happily surprised when he came on a big ferris wheel!! It was delicious and fun!! We both got alcoholic milk shakes, and I had pasta as my main dish. We both had tons of leftovers to take home. Our waitress was fun and knowledgeable and made great suggestions on what to order. Overall a great experience and can't wait to go back!

Making a table reservation was the way to go, it was so easy as well. Food was fabulous, drinks were good and strong! The place was absolutely packed but the food didn't take long at all, waitress was great! Definitely will be back, the Christmas themed drinks and decorations were a great touch!

OMGOSH, the food was a 10! It was hot and delicious! The service was impeccable. Our server Adam was thee best! They had plenty of vegan options, even vegan dessert’s! The atmosphere was beautiful. They made a very good first impression on me, I’m sold!

  • 3/5 Be Graced C. 4 months ago on Google • 15 reviews
Visited for the Christmas Pop-Up on a busy Friday evening. The place was packed! If I had to suggest anything, MAKE A RESERVATION!!! They offer decent vegan options if that’s your preference. The highlight was the buffalo cauliflower – easily the best part of the evening. Opted for the Kobe sliders with added fries, though it felt a bit pricey for the portion size. Tried the "Always Be My Maybe" drink; while it was decent, the half-full glass was unexpected for and slightly off-putting for $14. Perhaps a different glass would enhance the presentation. Overall, the experience was okay at best. The small and cramped space is immediately noticeable, and after chatting with my friend after eating, we felt a bit rushed out. Not in a rush to return, but considering another visit during a less crowded time for a potentially better experience.

  • 5/5 Katherine S. 6 months ago on Google
So, not sure if getting buzzed enhanced this experience (lol) but it was great. We ordered a brisket grilled cheese with fries and Brussels sprouts. The fries were on point, crispy and nicely flavored. I wish other restaurants could do this consistently! The Brussels sprouts were yummy but nothing set them apart. I would order them again with no hesitation. The sandwich was delicious... Brisket, cheese, jalapenos... Chef's kiss 💋. The servers were friendly and attentive. The atmosphere was nice.. pub elegance was the aesthetic, if that's a thing. They also have outside seating which is nice when the weather is pleasant. I definitely recommend this place.

During a recent visit myself and three other girl friends were getting harassed by an older gentleman visiting the restaurant. Thankfully the staff at Ale Mary’s noticed and helped get the man out and keep him from harassing us from the street. Rather than us leaving the restaurant the staff made sure we felt safe to stay and enjoy our time. Thank you! Great service and helpful staff.

Our server was excellent!! She was very knowledgeable about the beer menu. The atmosphere was very chill true Royal oak vibe . However the vegan options on the menu that we chose lacked flavor , my wife only had two bites of her taco and left the rest . We aren't ones to complain so we paid for our dinner and left a 20% tip . Great place for drinks but I was disappointed with the food

I love that they offer vegan food!! It is nice to go eat and have options to choose from!! They even serve vegan chick and waffles! I had the Fall chicken and waffles today with cinnamon butter. It was amazing!! Paired it with an apple cider mimosa it was perfection!! Bar staff is great!

The food is amazing! Drinks are great also! Our server Amy was the best. I really needed a red bull and they didn't have any. I'm pretty sure she went and found one for me! What a sweetheart! We really enjoyed this place and the fact that they have such a large selection of vegan food.

  • 4/5 Noelle-Marie M. 1 year ago on Google
Four stars for what it is (elevated bar food) and the fact that there are so many vegan options. I like Ale Mary's because both vegans and omnivores have their own menus. The buffalo cauliflower is amazingly good and their vegan sandwiches are tasty. The vegan milkshakes are also very nice, and the omnivores I've gone with have loved them too. If it's a Friday or Saturday, you'll need a reservation. Otherwise it's not hard to get a table. Vegan brunch is not the greatest in my experience but I've only gone once.

  • 4/5 Suprabha S. 1 year ago on Google
Drinks were on point even though many of the drinks I wanted weren't available that night. The ones we got were very good! For food I have a mixed experience. Most of the items were good. Wasn't a fan of cold taco. Surprisingly they had many vegetarian and vegan options which I liked. Not a lot of places offer these. Vegan Nashville chicken taco was very good. Service was excellent, staff is very friendly and they make very good suggestions. I had high expectations for the Christmas popup - igloo dining experience. But it wasn't so great. The igloos could have had better decorations and lighting. Tip - Don't go in on late Sunday nights most of the stuff will be out😀

This is a very nice classic looking bar. I only had a couple beers. They have a huge selection of imports. I got to have couple my favorite beers . If your into trying new beers I recommend trying Chimay. Next time I'll try some there food to give my opinion on that. So to next time ✌️

  • 5/5 Johnathan M. 10 months ago on Google
(pictured: Fat Dan entree and Miami Nice mocktail) Everything tasted excellent, our server was kind and attentive, and there were more than enough options on the menu for everyone to have some choices to make. A little pricey, though -- 3 meals, 2 mocktails, 3 shakes totalled like 150 bucks.

  • 3/5 Ann S. 1 year ago on Google
Great beer and drink menu! Food was average at best though. We got their famous beer cheese burger (which apparently won awards) and it was alright. The only thing we thought was odd was the burger had whole cherry tomatoes in it. Didn’t bother to point that out bc not a big deal. Burger still tasted fine for the most part. Next time, skip the food and just come for the drinks! Cool vibes but the music is loud inside for those who have sensory sensitivity so keep that in mind. They do have patio seating in the front.

  • 5/5 west l. 2 years ago on Google

My daughter is vegan but the rest of family is not. This is the place to go that will make everyone happy! I loved the Dorito Nachos but I was not a fan of the Philly cheesestake the taste was just, "ok" and it was too small for a $25 sub. My elderly mother loved the burger and of course my daughter loved her vegan Nashville hot chicken sandwich. The drinks were amazing. Regardless of me not liking the sub or the price of the sub, I give this place a 5 because I did love the doritio nachos from a previous trip and everyone else in the group loved their food.

BEST SERVICE!! I’m sooo happy! I was hesitant to try here bc I’ve read iffy views about the service. But I decided to take the jump and it did not disappoint!! I wish I got our waitresses name but she was THE BEST. by far the best service I’ve experience in years. I’m super happy with ale marrys and I’ll for sure be back. The food was also delicious. They even had a whole vegan menu! I definitely recommend them, and I also want to say thank you to the server! She deserves recognition for her great service.

Stopped by for brunch and the mimosa tower. Great place, atmosphere, and food! One side of the menu is vegan and the other is not so that was cool! All three of us could not decide on what to eat, so we decided to get three different items to split, haha. Our server, Tyler, was very sweet and attentive! Great way to start a Sunday! WILL BE BACK TO TRY THE VEGAN MILKSHAKES!

I had heard about this place a few times and how they have a vegan menu so we tried it for my daughter and son-in-law’s anniversary (they’re vegan too). For our appetizer, we had the roasted Brussels Sprouts, which I loved. I could have this as my main dish! But for my main dish, I had another appetizer, the buffalo cauliflower with ranch dressing. Amazing 😍😻. Even though I was stuffed, I had to try one of their milkshakes so I chose the Cookie Monster shake. Totally sweet and totally delicious. I would definitely recommend this place.

Ale Mary's, we so want to love you! Being one of the few restaurants around with a dedicated vegan menu, it's a tease that you are so close in proximity, yet so far from being worth $45 for two burgers and a cup of soup. We are all about supporting local businesses so we tried for the second time during the pandemic, thinking that our last experience was a fluke. We are super disappointed again. We ordered on your website, not through a food delivery service, and picked it up ourselves. The flavors are pretty good, but the portions are so small. Ale Mary's, we want to love you so much, but we can't until you realize your aren't a finer-dining spot, and add a bit more love into your food than greediness into your prices. The staff are super friendly and asked if there was anything we needed. If I'd known at the time, I would have said, "more soup?!".

It wasn't everything people hyped it up to be. The hostess exchange was award and uninviting. Our server was incredibly friendly and knowledgeable. She was the best part of our experience. The food was good, nothing amazing but way better than "bad", my mixed drink was delicious and the vegan s'mores shake looked more impressive than it was. $12 is a bit much for that little amount- the glass and garnishes add a bit of smoke and mirrors. Maybe we came on an off day.

Waited 2 and 1/2 hours for a meal that said it would be 20 min online. The wait staff was really nice even though they were slammed but their management needs to get their stuff together. This was beyond ridiculous. And for the price too the food was decent at best and not fresh.

Food was okay ...had lobster rolls was not fresh lobster unfortunately. I'm from the East coast so I know fresh seafood. Hubby had fish and chips he said it was good. Granddaughter had vegan (V) rani it was huge she like it. Beers nice and cold. Server was awesome. Parking a challenge ended up in parking structure.

Our server was very kind and helpful. The kind of server that makes you feel welcome. The menu has a full vegan side with apps, handhelds, and entrees. Such a thrill. I got the hot chicken sandwich and the buffalo cauliflower. Both were mega excellent. It’s fun and easy to dine in a bar with vegan options. I’m very thankful Ale Mary’s offers this. One thing, it’s a tad pricey for standard bar fare vegan style. This is the life we live though.

We decided to check this place out for our wedding anniversary because they had a lot of veggie friendly options. Food was made quickly and it was easy to order. However, I was super disappointed because I had ordered vegan chilli fries and they had given me plain ones. Husband got vegan chicken and waffles, and the coleslaw was so tiny it was about a spoonful. For as expensive as their veggie options are, you should get what you pay for. Check your order before leaving.

The Vegan Breakfast Burrito made me think I was eating meat. It was wonderful in all kinds of ways. The Milkshakes are insane! The Smores flavored one had appearance and a pallet that will have you trying another one soon.

Excellent, curated selection of beer and I also appreciate their connection to Tom's Oyster Bar. The pop-punk music needs to be cut. Maybe replace it with the classics, Pistols, Ramones, or Dead Kennedys.

I have been to Ale Mary's twice now, and I thoroughly enjoyed each visit. My first time dining in was about 3 weeks ago. I had the Georgia Peach as my drink (very tasty!) and the nacho normal nacho as an appetizer. The nachos were not warm like I thought they would be, but surprisingly they were still delicious. I really enjoyed them mainly because they use nacho cheese Doritos for the tortilla chip like how I do at home. My main dish was the McMary vegan burger and the sea salt fries. I loved it! I am admittedly not a vegan foodie, but I have had an "Impossible" burger pattie before and that is what is used on the McMary. And let me say their fries are soooo good! Freshly made with the perfect amount of sea salt. I had such a great experience my first time that I returned today. I started off with an Apple Cider Mojito as my drink, but I didn't care for the taste of this drink so my waitress graciously took it back and I opted for the Georgia Peach again. I had to have those Nachos again as my appetizer, and they were as delicious as the first time. For my entrée I had the vegan "Chicken" and Waffles. I was highly impressed with the consistency of the "Chicken" tender, as it really did have a real chicken taste to it. The waffles were delicious and cooked perfectly. Finally, my waitress Dawn was very nice, accommodating and interactive with me and my friend, which I appreciated. On our way out the door every staff person we encountered say goodbye to us. It's the small things that count! I will definitely be back to Ale Mary's to try some of the other menu items.

Loved the food and the menu that catered toward vegan as well as meat eaters! Kudos to the staff for making a tough situation work as well with the outdoor dining. My husband and I loved our visit.

The impossible burger was pretty good as were the fries. However, I was not impressed by the vegan shakes.

If you’re looking for a cozy vibe and vegan comfort food, you found it. I love their chicken and waffles and holiday cocktails. A little pricey for what you get, but it’s a once in a while stop for us when we need the comfort food in our lives. Love the omnivore menu and the vegan shakes as well.

Such a disaster. We ordered chicken & waffles and fish. They cancelled the chicken & waffles and when we called to replace it they said “oh actually we do have it”. Then an hour and a half later they cancelled the fish because they didn’t have it. When I called in the second time they said they had just gotten the order, which wasn’t true because they looked at the order an hour ago when we called about the chicken & waffles.

Got carry out and not only was the order cold but everything was a soggy mess. The bacon on the blt wasn't cooked through all the way and neither were the brussel sprouts. I had to re cook our meals when I got home. For $45 this is unacceptable

2020 was hard on everyone. That said, Ale Marys has been total garbage at takeout. They can't manage to get food cooked in a reasonable span of time, and their service staff are rude and unprofessional. Another "restaurant" that only survives off of getting people drunk enough not to notice how slow the service is.

We love hanging out. Last night we went to this superb restaurant which friends recommended to us. We spent a delightful evening there with exceptional food and an efficient stuff and a great cuisine. We added this restaurant in our list and we will certainly return soon. Highly recommended.
