If anything, the white plaster walls and four bamboo fences have a calmer and nicer feel than the hustle and bustle of Kairakuen's plum blossom viewing. If you park your car on the east side of Mito Castle's Ninomaru Otemon Gate and go to Kodokan Park to view the plum blossoms, the road is closed in front of the gate and there is no parking lot, so we recommend parking on the east side of Kodokan Park.

The place where Kodokan's library used to be is now a plum grove park. According to an acquaintance, the plum blossoms here reach their peak a little earlier than those at Kairakuen. The plum trees in Kodokan Park are generally low in height, and you can enjoy the flowers at eye level, so you can literally take a stroll while enjoying the cherry blossom viewing. If you go up to the earthworks (bank of Sannomaru moat) and look at the forest, you can see the plum grove from a slightly higher perspective. By the way, the cherry blossom season is also beautiful. On weekdays, you can see businessmen and locals sitting on the benches eating lunch or walking their dogs, making it feel like a place for local residents to relax. By the way, the retro Sannomaru government building was apparently the old Ibaraki prefectural office, and the prefectural library is also located next to it, so it seems that this entire area is owned by the prefecture, not Mito city. Parking is free for up to 30 minutes at the adjacent Sannomaru parking lot.

From Kairakuen to here. Although the garden is small, it is well maintained and the plum blossoms are quite beautiful. I feel like I'm being nourished. I prefer Kocchi plums. w It will probably be crowded at times. The temporary parking lot is in great condition.

I went to see something called pure Japanese style. The guides provided free and thorough guidance. I didn't have much time so I read the guide for each room, but it was really nice. It's oxidized silver architecture, or what should I call it? I regret that I didn't have to park far away if I had learned that there was a free parking lot right in front of me lol.

(Translated by Google) 弘道 館 (koudoukan) is a historical building which in ancient times was used as a place of learning, the building is still well maintained and stands firm, we can see the remains of Japanese civilization before it became a developed country like today. The most interesting thing is Japanese toilets and bathrooms in ancient times, we know Japan is the most sophisticated country for toilet design, this has passed down from their ancestors, they created wooden toilets with such a design, that our ancestors had not thought of it since time immemorial. first. If you enter the building and see this backyard it feels like you are entering the world of a samurai film, you can feel the real Japanese atmosphere. At the front entrance there is a large cherry tree with fallen petals, it would be great if you visit in spring.

    ancient samurai school.

The most famous Confucian school during the Edo period, this is where the conservative scholars and samurais promoted the doctrine of "sonnō jyōi" which means to respect the emperor and kick out the "barbarians"...The political and philosophical doctrines of the school were heavily influenced by a Chinese confucianism scholar named Zhu Zhiyu or Zhu Shunshui who fled from China after the Manchu conquest of China. The school is well preserved, the old ladies who worked there were helpful. But I wouldn't recommend this place unless you are interested in the history of Bakumatsu.

(Translated by Google) I went to Mito with my family. Unfortunately, it was a pity that the facility was almost closed due to the corona effect. The details are as follows. Japan's largest domain school Edo period comprehensive university Kodokan is the largest clan school in Japan, established by Noriaki Tokugawa, the ninth lord of the Mito clan, in 1841. The last shogun, Tokugawa Keiki, studied at Kodokan in his childhood and spent his life here after the reign of the great government. The front gate, the front office, and the Sozendo, which have survived many wars, have been designated as national important cultural properties. The remains of the oldest existing school in Japan, Ashikaga School (Ashikaga City), the largest private school in Japan, the remains of Kaminien (Hita City), and the former Shibuya School (Bizen), which is the only national treasure auditorium responsible for the education of the common people of the Edo period. Its value was recognized as a group of educational heritage of modern Japan along with the city.

(Translated by Google) Tokugawa Masaaki founded Kodokan as a place for lifelong education practice to foster not only nieces but also people who save the country. Masaaki encouraged Kanume as a place to relax, with the motto “Ichiwara Ichigo” that it is important not only to study hard but also to refresh sometimes. It seems that Saiaki recommended not only that he loved plums, but also that it was also beneficial because it was also a food, so he recommended planting plums. There is a Confucius Temple along the park, leading to Kashima Shrine. If you walk in this park while thinking about that, you will be impressed.
