This place is a living remnant of the dead. Countless lives lost to pointless torture and tyranny of the Americans in 60s to 80s. The sheer amount of force in the form of tanks, planes, armored vehicles and missiles, bombs, bullets.. to silence people in their own homeland. It is simply horrible to walk through the museum and not fill humanity's failures at large through the destruction of war. Sadly because the war happened in recent years, a lot of photographic evidence is available and you will feel it in your gut when you see those horrid photos. After visiting this museum, the outlook on life and death is bound to change. And I hope the visit motivates you to be more kind, more caring and more sympathetic to other humans.

Spent several hours here and found it both confronting and educational. Coming from Australia who fought on the side of the south in the Vietnam war, it was a reminder that there was a powerful local perspective and impact of this war and so many reasons why it has had such a lasting impact on the country. While strongly representing the story of the north, the people in the museum are respectful of all backgrounds including the US and simply want the story to be told as an important lesson to all generations. Sections on war crimes, the Agent Orange exfoliation, remarkable photographs from amazing and courageous photographers who documented the war, and the impact across successive generations are all on display here. A must visit.

The museum is fine, with a lot of morbid descriptions of what happened in the war. Very very detailed and thorough. Many storeys in the building. I must warn all tourists though. There is(are) a(a few) coconut scam artists around the entrance or the area who would try to strike up a conversation with you and then open a coconut on the spot (as if they are being nice and offering to you for free) then charging you 300,000 dong for it! This is crazy and ridiculous! We hope that no more tourists fall trap to this anymore. 👎🏼👎🏼👎🏼 Very disappointed by the behaviour of these scam artists stationed around the area of tourist spots and soiling the image and reputation of Vietnam.

Outside are the things I love, aircraft. Inside are the horrors of a brutal war. If you have children of a sensitive nature avoid the second floor. The photographs and graphic details bring home the brutality dished out to the gentle people of Vietnam who mostly were not involved in the war, just trying to live through it.

This is a must see! But prepare yourself it’s not easy, and if you are easily impressed careful with some rooms. For me the worst was the agent orange room. I almost did not take pictures from this room, so don’t be fooled by my pics. Please do not take children to this place! If you really want to visit and you have children with you, I believe there is a spot to drop them on the 3rd floor. This is a harsh truth place! Hope you come out a better human being after being in here! Let’s all learn a bit from war, to always support peace!

Excellent museum! Best one I've been to in Vietnam. Everything is well translated into English and detailed to help you understand. The layout of the museum begins on the top floor and the rooms are numbered for you to follow. The photography exhibition is stunning! There are graphic pictures that may be upsetting for some adults or kids. But it is a MUST SEE. So much to see, read and learn. Price was 40k per ticket at the gate, incredibly reasonable.

This is a great complex that explores the major themes of the Vietnam War, ranging from war protest, war crimes, the long term effects of the war, etc. As an American I thought it was very well done and learned a great deal about the harrowing effects of Agent Orange, among other atrocities that occurred throughout the duration of the war. Each description is presented in English and Vietnamese so I didn't feel the need to get the avaiable audio tour. Spent around an hour and a half exploring the many floors and exhibits and feel it is an extremely impactful experience, especially when viewing some of the more gruesome photos of the war.

Excellent collection of artifacts, and incredible display of how brutal the war was. The photography section was an eye opener. I spent over 4 hours in the museum. I'd suggest you allocate a minimum of 2 hours for the museum. Parking is available on the location itself. There's also a small cafe inside the museum.

Had a great day at the war museum learning about the Vietnam war. Despite not having an audio guide with me, I don't think I needed one in the end as the information provided was very informative. Lots of things to see from the pics provided. I will say it's not for the faint of heart as some of the stories and pictures are quite gut wrenching but definitely worth hearing about. Tickets were very cheap to enter at only 40,000 dong (about £1.25). 10/10!

I grew up watching the Vietnam War on the nightly news. To experience the opposite perspective is both emotional and thought provoking. There are no winners in war and especially the civilians pay the price. The second floor is the most wrenching and the third floor photo exhibition is amazing.

Lots of information, I believe the ticket was 40k on entry. It’s a reasonable price and there is a lot to see. Brilliant to get to know the history of the war in Vietnam.

Absolutely enjoyed every aspect of this museum. Great detail into the military equipment used by the US here. The various tanks seized by the Americans stood prominently outside as you walked in. The different sections detail important aspects. The room detailing the global activism against the war was fascinating, as they covered the events and literature from anti-war movements from Pakistan to France. Fascinating section on the lives and profiles of American soldiers such as John McCain. They had a recreation of the torture chambers and prisons used by southern Vietnam. They explored all the terrible aspects of this war from both sides. Everyone should visit.

Very powerful set of exhibits on the horrible wars that the Vietnamese people lived through for three decades. I was especially moved by the exhibit of photos by war photographers who were killed in action. Withholding a star for the relentless one-sidedness of the exhibition. The credibility of the museum would be stronger if there was even the slightest acknowledgement that the war was brutally fought on both sides.

Be aware: this museum blows your eyes about the war. You learn so much about it and will form so much respect for the people who survived, died and suffered from it. You may get a bit emotional even, as there are also people in the museum who still feel the consequences of the war. However, this place is a must see as a sign of love for everybody in Vietnam.

You can know what people went through during the war time. The real life stories of people here will remain in our memories. Spend time to read through them. A dedicated section for agent orange and weapons that have been used during the vietnam war don't miss these

  • 5/5 Graham W. 4 years ago on Google
An amazing if sobering experience that brings to life the human cost of the war. As you might expect it’s a very ones sided account, but you can’t dispute the truth of the well documented impact on the Vietnamese people. Outside there are some impressive pieces of captured military hardware and inside there’s everything from examples of weapons used on both sides to exhibitions about the ground war and the effects of agent orange and the defoliation campaign. Well worth a half day to visit.

First rate museum, can a little overwhelming for some. People my age will remember the Vietnam War being on the news all the time. It is well worth a visit, especially as it makes thing about a strange unpleasant war or how futile war is. The French and Americans fought a war in Viet Nam.

5 star review purely for the emotional impact this visit had on me. Fantastic insight into a horrific part of Vietnam history. Not worth me sharing many photos of this one, best to experience it yourself.

Not sure if rating this museum is even correct, it is solemn, thought provocating, you can't help not to be touched by the experience of reading the stories behind the people whom lived through this horrible war. After leaving this museum you soon notice that some 50 yrs on the effects of chemical warfare are still manifested in children and adults out on the street, it is a sad reflection on what the Vietnam war imposed on innocent civilians and children.

Interesting avenue to learn about the old Vietnam war. Ticket is decently priced. Really love the outdoor display. Good for photography. Very informative. There are exhibits inside the building; all about their war history. And, There is a small coffee shop for your to chill down and relax. Getting here? Easy via GRAB.

Must visit when in HCMC. You feel sad, angry, sympathetic, sorry all at one time. Made me tearful to see what this country has gone through. Big salute to Vietnam and the Vietnamese people who recovered from such a horrific war and built such a beautiful country in comparatively short span.

A communists one sided view about the atrocities and brutality of the Vietnam War. Be warned, there are various rooms showcasing extremely graphic imagery of dismembered Vietnam soldiers. It's a dark part of Vietnam's history and the United States are at the forefront of the chaos at this museum. There are rooms dedicated to the torture methods used against prisoners which is inhumane and shocking to read. The war crimes room and devastating effects of a dioxin called Agent Orange is on display showing you the defects it has caused to the Vietnamese. I consider this a must visit so you can see just how evil and pointless war is, it serves no other purpose but to destroy. There's also a bunch of US weapons of war on display like helicopters and tanks.

The War Remnants Museum is a must-visit for anyone interested in understanding the human cost of war. The exhibits, including powerful photographs and artifacts, provide a comprehensive and thought-provoking narrative of the Vietnam War and its aftermath. The museum offers a respectful atmosphere and helpful staff, allowing visitors to reflect on the devastating impact of the war and the ongoing challenges faced by those affected. It is an incredibly moving and educational experience that highlights the importance of peace and understanding in our world

Although the exhibits were meaningful and full of information, I thought the museum could have more of a flow to it. By which I mean that if you go here without a solid understanding of the war, as far as I could tell, the museum doesn't give a good story to the war and tell you what happened step by step, but rather gives information about various cross sections of the war such as the war crimes. With this being said, we only spent 45 minutes or so in the museum so perhaps with more time to fully explore all of the exhibits, I would have gathered a better story of the war.

This museum is intense. I didn’t expect the museum to be so graphic, and I had to take breaks every 30 minutes. Highly recommended. I’m born and raised in America, but of Vietnamese heritage. It was worth it to see the war from a different perspective than what I was taught in school

One of the best museums Ive been to. So thoroughly explained and from many points of view. The way they portrait is very positive and emphasizes the support of the people against the war while still showing the saddest stories and a lot of details and information. I would so recommend it but get prepared for a very emotional journey.

It was my first place I decided to visit in Seigon like I want to say for everybody in Vietnam I'm proud of you ....the museum is huge and have outdoor area full with machines war like aircrafts and tanks inside its 3 floor's and alot of things to see and read and learn. Photographs is the most heavy and powerful part in this museum and it will show you how this war was cruel and believe me it will be hard to resist this feeling of sadness. Any way it's a great experience and you can't come to Seigon without visit this place.

War Remnants Museum, Hanoi. Located in Hanoi, the capital of Vietnam, this museum, dedicated to the memory of the war, has compelled us to impress any peace-loving and conscientious person. Rich in pictures, information and collections, the museum highlights the brutality and inhumanity of the war, as well as the heroism, bravery and heroism of Vietnam's resistance fighters.

I like those military arsenal at the courtyard in front of the museum, be it Chinnock helicopter, F5-A fighter plane, or artillery. The mock up of the jail is also interesting. Within, there are mainly photos and news clippings spreading over 3 floors. Need patience to read through all. Otherwise half an hour is enough to go through.

I usually found museums boring but this is one is really good. You can touch and see the F5, tanks and helicopters. Also they have very impressive and detailed galleries contain valuable insights on the war. You can learn a lot about Resilience of brave men and women who stood for their country in the most u fair conditions. Must visit.

Great must see museum in Ho Chi Minh (Saigon). Great displays of armored vehicles, tanks, artillery as of course aircraft. Does a great job describing the horrors of the Vietnam war in both pictures and text, including chemical warfare of agent orange and its effects during and after the war. Also includes descriptions, illustrations and exhibitions of Vietnam war prisons, and the treatment and torture that was carried out there. Must do for the very reasonable price.

So this is somewhat hard, to see the reality of what happens in a war. It was sad and at the same time interesting, the price was cheap and we were there for quite some time. Obviously history is written by the victors, does not matter if you are in the east or in the west. For me it was a memorable experience.

Poignant reminders of the impact of war on a country and its people. Some very moving exhibits. Very important place to visit in Vietnam. You will learn a lot about the Vietnam war. How they came under the attack, how they built their defence with the bare minimum means at their disposal, you will know about the ugly agent Orange, its effects on victims. You will learn about how the mighty powers attacked a poor country, and how the Vietnamese put on a brave defence and fought for so many years.

One has to understand the reason for the struggle and the determination with which the nation fought and forced the powerful aggressor to walk out. A must for defence personnel. Civilians may not understand couple of things but worth a visit to see the atrocities carried out by the aggressor. Buildings, bridges destroyed. Jungles wiped out with chemicals and many more.

It is wild to see the difference in perspective while comparing this to an exhibit in the United States. This museum shows some graphic images and dedicates nearly a whole level to the use of Agent Orange which is a topic that is typically hidden or avoided in America. This is a great first stop when visiting Vietnam or Ho Chi Minh so that you have a more balanced understanding of the viewpoints and memory of the Vietnamese people.

This is a vivid and mature look at the Vietnam War from the Vietnamese perspective. Foreigners should come with an open mind as this viewpoint will be new for most westerners. I would not recommend this for very young children. Definitely started a lot of conversations with my family and we left a bit somber.

  • 5/5 Ronan H. 1 year ago on Google
I've learnt a lot about Vietnam's history. The horror, the suffering but also hope about a better future. Very educational. A warning though, the images are quite graphic and thus not suitable for small children.

Love this place as a museum to the American War in Vietnam. It has some very disturbing images and stories. Yes it's told by the people who were left behind but it's done well. It shows some elements of war that are horrific. The vehicles are a great feature and allow you up close and personal to them. My partner was amazed at the size of some of them. The tiger cages and the new improved displays are fantastic. I've been here 3 times and every time it's been improved. Be warned: while it's nothing to do with the museum there are coconut sellers in the local area. They will give you a coconut and act like it's free as they are going home then once opened expect payment.

This is a hard look at the realities of the decades of conflict that Vietnam faces. There were many unique exhibits, including one on the effects of Agent Orange and another on international Anti-War efforts. This place is a must.

A museum which focuses on the dark side of the Vietnam/American war. In this museum you will hear the story from the Vietnamese perspective. A lot will be told about the many war crimes the American troops committed during the conflict and the extensive bombing campaign. Its good to also hear the story once from another perspective.

A sombre memory of the war history, told from the Vietnamese perspective. Dedicate about 3+ hours to thoroughly go through the artefacts, photos, and anecdotes. 5 stars not because it was an enjoyable visit, but because it was really impactful. Children or young adults should be accompanied by adults, as majority parts of the museum has vividly displayed the horrors of war.

To the visitors: I suggest visiting before visiting the reunification palace to better understand the significance of the dates and events. Expect a detailed, informative, extremely sad recollection of the years of war that affected the nation. It was truly eye opening and definitely a must for everyone. Amenities: There's a cafe downstairs and a wending machine but nothing up the floors. Each floor had well maintained toilets. Cash only for admission tickets and wedding machine. To the organisation: thank you for your hard effort

Great museum that documents the aftermath of war. The gallery dedicated to the war photographers was amazing especially to a person who appreciates good photography. Very powerful images. There is definitely some graphic content but it is a museum about war and if there is ever an appropriate place to show them it is here.

When I first came to this museum I thought I'd nip round it and spend just an hour taking it in. Within 10 minutes I realized I had to read absolutely everything I could find on the walls and experience the whole thing because to do justice to the people described here you simply have to endure as much as you can and feel deeply the tragedies that they lived through and needlessly died for. The immense cruelties acted upon political prisoners, the families destroyed with dispassionately dropped massive carpet bombing, the innocent farmers running from the desolation to only be gunned down by American soldiers time and time again and the horrors and legacy of agent orange are all detailed with a nesacary unflinching and graphic honesty. It is hard to see but it is essential to experience. I'm not American but I still felt ashamed. If only more war museums were so hard hitting.

Great accounts of the Vietnam war and various interventions by other nations. Political and military aspects are well covered with special segment dedicated to Agent Orange and its effects.

  • 5/5 Mark T. 10 months ago on Google
Very well presented museum with incredible detail about the war from the Vietnamese perspective. Some of the exhibits are very confronting and they do not hold back on the ongoing legacy of Agent Orange and the birth defects/devastation to the rural areas. Some areas quite hot but drinks/souvenirs are available. A must see!!

The Ultimate story of Vietnam war and the suffering and spirit of bounce back of Vietnamese people. Note: start from the 2nd floor section 1. Then start coming down floors. The war museum has everything to portray the war story. There should be an audio visual storytelling documentary show. All the details in museum is in written form. I saw Many Many people just do a photo tour and doesn't bothered to read things. An audio visual story can be a really good feature for the world to know about Vietnam war. Tips : If you are to read details you need 3-4 hours. During the summer season manage the way you come out of the museum by 5.00 pm so you can take pictures with war machines like planes and tanks outside. Try to avoid random taxis for your way back from the museum, Grab app is best or you can try Vinasun taxis .

If you want to really undersrand the Vietnam War history then this is the place. Just a caution some of the pictures are too difficult to digest so take care on that. Apart from that it's a super place to understand how one county's patriotism.highly recommended

The War Remnants Museum in Ho Chi Minh City is a powerful and moving exhibition that offers a sobering look into the impact of the Vietnam War on the Vietnamese people. The exhibits are informative and thought-provoking, and the collection of photographs documenting the effects of Agent Orange is particularly moving. It is a must-visit destination for anyone interested in learning about the history of the war.

A very beautiful place for all the history freaks. It takes about the Vietnam war and what the people of Vietnam have faced due to the war. The pictures are heart breaking and you will understand how hard they worked to build the country back together. You can easily buy a ticket in counter. Make sure you carry cash.

This was an interesting visit. 40k VD for adults and 20kVD for kids 6-15. Start at the very top in room #1 and progress from there. We did not do an audio tour this time so I’m sure this would have helped navigate around in order (which we missed). I recommend going as early as possible as there is no air-con, only fan and it is absolutely sweltering throughout the 3 levels. An interesting one-sided perspective at the Vietnam war. Certainly saddening to read what happened to the innocent in this War, including the aftermath years and year later. I’m pleased I went but it’s not a feel good outcome, it’s sad and heartbreaking.

If you want to know about the Vietnam war, definitely the right place to visit. **If you are traveling there with your kids and family, I would recommend parents to check out the 2nd and 3rd floor pictures first. As some of the pictures are not for kids** The Vietnamese government also thought about that, that's why the 2nd and 3rd floor have a kids room. You can leave your kids there while you are learning about the Vietnam war.

"The War Remnants Museum is a powerful place that vividly depicts the horrors of war. In the outdoor area, you can see authentic war material, from tanks and artillery shells to old aeroplanes and helicopters, up close. The museum also offers a special area that deals intensively with prison conditions. Detailed information and illustrated testimonies can be found there, showing how prisoners were systematically tortured. Here it becomes clear that this exhibition is not for the faint-hearted. Inside the museum, there are various thematic rooms. One room, for example, is dedicated to the defoliant 'Agent Orange' and its devastating side effects. Here one is gripped by haunting images and the dull feeling of the incomprehensible. There is also a room dealing with war crimes from both sides, as well as other thematic rooms. Some of the exhibits can make you feel queasy. But the War Remnants Museum is absolutely worth seeing to better understand the scale of the war and appreciate peace." At the entrance, a war victim wants to talk to you and sell something afterwards. Watch out if you don't want to

This is one of the must go museum in Ho chimin city/Saigon. There is a lot of information about the Vietnam/American war. The collection of American war vehicles is really well preserved. There is an exhibition about the imprisonment of the Vietnam people and about the tiger cages the "puppets" used to break the locals. I took at least 2 - 3 hours to explore the whole complex.

Very well put together memorial that showcases the atrocities that Vietnam has gone through in recent decades. Extremely moving but a must-see when in Saigon to fully understand what the Vietnamese people have gone through. You can spend anywhere from 1 hour up to 4 hours there taking in all the information, pictures, sculptures and leftover machinery

It's a great place to know about the Vietnam long fought war for independence. A lot of information is there and some stages are really heart wrenching as the immense pain Vietnam bears to get this independence. Must visit place in HCM

Museum was very informative about the atrocities the West did to the Vietnamese, when the West tried meddling in affairs of another country (as usual). I spend about 2.5hrs here going through every exhibit. Highly recommended 👌.

The War Remnants Museum is an essential destination for all visitors. It effectively displays every facet of the Vietnamese conflict with America, spanning from military organization to the sacrifice of martyrs. The museum is impeccably maintained and vividly portrays the hardships endured by the Vietnamese people in their struggle against the American army. Sending warm regards and love from India. 🙏❤️

Very good experience for me. Was teary eyed by the time I completed my tour. This place is a must go for all war monkies and they must go and visit the ugly but the only true face of war. The USA and its gross war crimes were depicted in its real picture here very aptly and bravely.

  • 4/5 MiKeY S. 6 months ago on Google
I think this is better than independence palace, 40k for an adult ticket. Worth a visit, get a close up of the Allies Remnants. Self tour with guided audios. Not much interaction. A good place for rest your wary feet and a toilet break.

  • 4/5 Andy W. 5 months ago on Google
An interesting if very one-sided view of the Vietnam War, painted firmly with the Communist brush. Whilst it did a great job showing the atrocities committed by the Americans, it ignores the same brutality committed by the Viet Cong on their POW. War is never good. That should be the main takeaway from this.

  • 4/5 Freddi T. 5 months ago on Google
One of the cheaper / local activities to do in HCM… we caught a bus (google maps makes it easy - fares between $5K-7K per person Has plenty to share regarding the Vietnam War, and heaps of “remnants” from bullets to Aircrafts & Tanks … Would recommend starting from the 2nd floor (you may stairs it or catch a lift up) and work your way down… Don’t miss the Level 1 children’s exhibit ( the air conditioning is the best in this area ) Also nearby to note of “interest” would be their CO OP a local supermarket with tons of drinks etc as you’d get at Woolies/Safeway/Coles/Walmart/TescoLotus/Giant

Trying to give this an “average” score in attempt to not influence its overall rating. This place is definitely worth a visit, but I must admit it was very emotional. I am glad that Vietnam are stoic, able to present the horror they went through, but it is very confronting. It’s a day for thick skin.

Very well put together museum of the Vietnam War. Lots of photos, memorabilia, weapons, helos, tanks, jets and historical points during the war. I highly recommend this museum, especially if you are into military history!

It's not a place to love, but a place for learning, compassion, and understanding. I was moved to tears by their exhibits. An absolute must see, especially for Americans. Know your history and be on the right side of it.

This is by far the most depressing part of my trip to Vietname, you’ll know what i mean when you visit this museum. Got very emotional seeing the artifacts displayed and felt so sorry for those that were greatly affected by the war.

  • 5/5 Tiffany N. 4 months ago on Google
The ticket price for the museum was quite reasonable, allowing access to a variety of exhibits spread across three floors with distinct showing rooms. It provided a great value for the money, and there was a plethora of interesting things to explore, making the visit worthwhile.

If you are history inclined then this is a must visit . The vietnam war literally pans out in front of you. From actual battle tanks and choppers to missiles to seeing the torture rooms of slaves , the experience is a blend of history and also very moving .

Fantastic way to understand the history of the Vietnam war, with stories told by different people involved. Lots of it pretty harrowing and disturbing. It was very disappointing to see how badly fellow humans treat each other.
