good. The grounds are quite large for a temple. It's flat so it's easy to visit. The main hall and temple office are both splendid and well-maintained. The cemetery is also large. Strict. Although it was founded by Mitsukuni, there are too many Aoi family crests. There are graves of famous people, and there are helpful guides, but for someone like me who isn't interested, it actually has a negative effect.

In 1692, the temple was opened by Higashigo Shinkoshi Zenji at the invitation of Mitsukuni Tokugawa, the second lord of the Mito domain. As the head temple of the Jusho branch of the Soto sect, Chiyuki was given 100 koku. After the Meiji Restoration, it merged with the Dogen-affiliated Soto sect. There is a free parking lot, so it might be a good base to park your car and explore the surrounding area.

I visited around 10 o'clock, and the young priest told me that he could not give me a red seal because the memorial service was closer to the time. I strolled around the grounds for a while, but there was no sign of any rush, and I felt like I was simply turned away. It was a shame because it is the main temple with a long history.

It's a very big temple. On the day of the event, a large group of people took a bus to the main hall where the chief priest was speaking about the history, origin, etc. When we asked for a goshuin stamp, we were told there would be a two-hour wait, so we went around other places to visit. I was able to receive a wonderful stamp from the chief priest.

This is a Soto sect temple founded by Mitsukuni in 1692, and its principal image is Shaka Nyorai. It was originally the place where Tentokuji, the family temple of the Satake clan, was built, and was renamed Gionji in 1712. When you pass through the main gate where the Kaidan stone is located, you will be greeted by a cute guardian dog. (•‿•) The magnificent main hall was quite impressive.

Gionji Temple (Soto sect) has a wonderful structure from the main hall to the guest hall and home. The parking lot is surrounded by cherry blossoms and sandalwood trees, and the cherry blossoms around this time (spring) are very charming! As you enter the main gate, you will see the bell tower on your left, and behind it is the magnificent main hall. There are large ginkgo trees, maple trees, and azalea trees in front of the main hall, and the autumn leaves are spectacular! The cemetery is also large and seems to have quite a number of graves! I can't explain it in a few words, but everything is wonderfully constructed. That's a big deal!

Gionji Temple is a temple with a long history, founded by Mitsukuni Mito, also known as Mitsukuni Tokugawa. The gate of the temple is a trefoil hollyhock, and unlike the gate of the Mito Tokugawa family, it seems to be closer to the gate of the head family. →The shape of Aoi's attachment part is slightly different.
