Such a gem tucked away in the south west corner or San Diego (and the United States!). You can bunnies, lizards, and all types of birds! There are trails that are beginner friendly (and mostly stroller friendly too). The visitor center is pretty cool (before it got closed for Covid). The estuary is full of beautiful views and it is a great place for a walk or hike (or run). With the benches located along or at the ends of trails, it makes for a nice snack or picnic spot too.

This place has special meaning for me and overall it is a wonderful spot to look at. If you wanted to Broaden your horizons then one wood only have to sniff to experience the lovely Hugh of the Tijuana River. This river is notorious for being polluted with fecal matter in addition to a cornucopia of other items leaving it to be interesting and random science experiment to describe it in a conservative way. I’m stunned that how much money has been wasted annually on its management I am disgusted by the heavy-handed and enthusiastic law-enforcement personnel federal government places there and we’re talking about you Arnold. I find it to be an extremely dangerous place when line Forssman is around simply because of their enthusiasm and their in ability to be supervised by anyone ever. The border patrol same thing they could break your back and you disappear and there’s nothing that anyone could ever do it anything about. I also fear for my safety when encountering the boy ritual in this area of the world. They are off the hook violent will think of nothing to kidnap you and they believe that they are the ultimate law of the land all that packed into a 22-year-old kid with a firearm fresh out of the army. It’s a road to disaster Town.

A special piece of land reserved for natural beauty and all the wonderful living creatures within it! Love this place, great walkway around the slough.

Gorgeous. Love that we can see wildlife relatively undisturbed by us, from a well cared-for path. We saw great and snowy egrets, a rabbit, a hawk, ducks and turns, sandpipers and birds we'd never seen before and couldn't identify. Apparently there are 350 bird species out there! A beautiful, special experience. :)

First visit to visitor center and park, loved it. Tide was totally out so river was very dry but still saw great birds and wildlife.

I left a review on here and it mysteriously disappeared. My photo captured signs showing the beach was closed. Beach had been closed most of the year. Idiots visiting don’t realize the health risks they are literally wading through. Raw sewage and pollution plague this area and its inhabitants. Disgusting filth. Shame on EPA and any other agency allegedly protecting the environment and oceans. It’s sickening in more ways than one. Let’s see how long until this one is erased. Do something already!!!

This is such a nice hidden gem. The birds are fun to watch, and the trails are easy for a morning walk. Love it here!

Great easy walk. Many flowers, cacti, and birds. Helicopter training can get a bit noisy.

Nice and clean space to take a walk. The ocean is currently infested with dark waters. But overall nice place to chill and relax.

Love this place. I have been watching it for many years. Still great wildlife views. Visitors need to take better care with trash and dog waste. Politicians are STILL discussing what to do about the pollution.

Before we hit the trail, we stopped by the visitor center for recommendation from the front desk. We didn't see any rattle snake but there are signs everywhere. The path is pretty even, and easy. It's beautiful and peaceful. We saw lots of birds on the trail. However, they are pretty commonly found through out California marshlands like egrets, kestrels, yellow-crowned sparrows. The only excitement we found was a Yellow-crowned heron. We hope to see some exotic birds or something we haven't seen but we didn't.

Not much wildlife in the refuge today but it was an uncrowded, peaceful place to walk around for the morning. Nice visitor center. Property was clean although (unfortunately) some trash was in the water...

It’s amazing to see such a wild untouched area by the coastline. We enjoyed listening to the sounds of birds and seeing lizards run around.

Beautiful setting. A great place for a quiet walk. The only negative is when the helicopters are flying overhead, but that only seems to be certain days. Most days it’s very peaceful.

Really enjoy this place. Saw a lot of wildlife from herons, kestrels and ospreys to lizards, bunnies and squirrels. Unfortunately the constant helicopters flying over broke up the peacefulness of the place but I will go back.

Beautiful wildlife refuge in imperial beach. Located between the bustling cities of Tijuana and Chula Vista it offers a serene and scenic place to get away from the stresses of the city if only for a few minutes...

πŸ‘πŸ‘ So we went here to visit a friend who we have not seen in almost 20 years. Make sure to bring your ID. We were only given 10 minutes, and that was because the border patrol guy was nice about it. We were thankful for every second. Nice place to visit, ride bikes, hike, enjoy the beach. Looks a lot m...
