A tiny museum dedicated to the preservation of the local White Snake, known as the Shirohebi. After the entrance to the museum they show you a quick video on its relevance in the area and why the snake was well respected in the past. You're able to see a few of the snakes held in captivity towards the end of the museum.

It's very educational for the kids. The devices are very new. Actually white snakes to observe at close range. Pretty unique museum!

An educational experience with interactive screens and quizzes to test your knowledge. There are live snakes. There was a big snake that you could take a photo with but it was covered in plastic. There is a small giftshop too.

Lol at the one negative review on the front page being an American. Who goes to a Japanese museum expecting English? Shaking my head. Yes it is a very small museum but entry was not expensive at all, there's a cute little movie in the first room you enter, all in Japanese but you can get the gist of what the white snake is all about. My husband and I both love cultural stuff so maybe that's why we found this museum to be pretty cool.

We went here on a Sunday afternoon, there was no wait and it was pleasant we got to learn of the white snakes and why they are important for the Japanese people. They have a skeleton and anatomy of the white snake and lots of facts on their lives and you get to see a couple of them in a glass tank.

The museum is fairly small yet it provides a great information about the white snake found in Iwakuni. The opening interactive video is similar to a Pokémon animation game! The museum includes some interactive devices as well as few lives snakes kept for observation… It may not be the best museum yet it is well kept and does provide all that is to know about white snakes… it is worth the visit if you have nothing else left to do in Iwakuni.

Very cute little museum dedicated to Iwakuni's white snakes. Fun to walk through for a couple minutes if you've got time to spare. Not all information is in English, but the diagrams and videos are educational regardless. Especially fun for kids.

(Translated by Google) The Iwakuni White Snake House located in Yoshika Park, Yokoyama, Iwakuni is an indoor living body for white snakes. You cannot see the white snakes in the outdoor breeding facilities because they hibernate, but you can see the white snakes that are active even in the winter at the Iwakuni White Snake Mansion. The exterior of the Iwakuni White Snake Museum is based on the image of a rice brewery that was said to have inhabited white snakes during the Edo period. A tiny ‘museum’ about white snakes, with only 2 snakes. Only spent 5 minutes here - not worth it. Maybe interesting for kids, if they can read Japanese!

  • 4/5 gotaemin 1 year ago on Google • 18 reviews
A very small building showcasing the local white snake (pit viper) adequately named Shiro hebi (lit: white snake). In the first room, there's a cool map of old Iwakuni and an animated video about the white snake in olden times. Good for kids. The 2nd room has a bunch of small activities like trying to get the plastic snake skeleton to digest a whole egg, a case of shed snake skin, and other videos. There's also 6 or so live snakes in a glass enclosure, very cute. That's pretty much all there is to see, as most of the text is in Japanese with no English translations so it's hard to linger around. There's a gift shop at the end with snake memorabilia too. Supposedly there's a festival honoring the white snake in October, so if you're in the area around then, do check it out!
