The
main
building
of
railway
station
of
Jacobabad
town
was
constructed
in
the
year
1886.
This
monumental
building
was
constructed
following
the
spread
of
railway
network
in
the
area.
This
was
the
part
of
mega
project
of
connecting
Rohrri
with
Quetta
through
rail
road.
It
developed
in
various
phases.
In
1906,
Jacobabad
station
was
upgraded
as
Junction
station
and
was
connected
with
Larkana
via
Usta
Muhammad,
Garrhi
Khairo
and
Shahdad
Kot.
And
finally
it
was
connected
with
Kashmore
in
1940
through
a
small
gauge
line.
It
is
associated
with
a
number
of
other
buildings,
constructed
during
the
same
period
or
little
afterwards.
The
station
comprises
over
3
platforms,
a
Loco
Shed
and
a
large
number
of
offices.
The
Loco
Shed
building
was
ransacked
during
December
27
(2007),
riots.
Jacobabad
railway
station's
historical
significance
increased,
when
leader
of
the
nation,
Quaid-e-Azam
Muhammad
Ali
Jinnah
landed
on
one
of
its
platforms,
after
traveling
a
long
way
from
India,
way
back
in
1938.
It
is
said
that
Mr.
Jinnah
accompanied
with
his
lieutenants,
when
reached
at
Jacobabad,
was
deprived
off
necessary
facilities
at
station's
waiting
room
by
the
British
administration.
Even
the
furniture
was
removed
from
the
waiting
rooms,
forcing
Mr.
Jinnah
to
sit
on
barred
floor
for
some
time
until
his
comrades
came
to
receive
him.
For
the
accommodation
needs
of
the
employers,
a
very
vast
colony
was
established
which
spreads
over
a
kilometer.
Some
historical
mosques
of
the
time
still
exist
in
the
area.
A
big
hospital
of
the
same
period
is
operational
in
the
railway
colony
which
is
still
very
much
functional,
catering
to
the
needs
and
providing
health
facilities
to
the
employees
and
their
families.
The
old
bungalows
of
the
colony
are
very
much
in
use
to
date
and
some
of
them
have
been
converted
into
offices.
At
the
time
of
establishment
of
this
colony
an
independent
power
generating
plant
was
also
installed
in
its
premises
to
cater
to
the
energy
needs
of
the
residents.
The
railway
station
and
the
buildings
constructed
more
than
a
century
and
a
half
need
proper
attention
as
far
as
their
preservation
is
concerned.
More
over,
in
view
of
the
visit
of
leader
of
the
nation
Quaid-e-Azam
Muhammad
Ali
Jinnah
to
this
railway
station,
it
qualifies
to
be
declared
as
a
national
monument.
