Was recommended this place to visit. Conveniently located near the train station which was a 3 min walk from my hotel. Was greeted warmly by the lady hostess and seated then presented and talked through the options. The talk through was fun with an and included and Origami lesson. I went specifically for the Hida beef burger since it’s local. 1. Food was excellent. Presented beautifully and the portion of small fries would have fed an army. 2. Atmosphere was lovely setting. As with most Japanese establishments was orderly and clean! 3. The service. Well what can I say. The young man who cooked the fries and delivered the food to the table. You made my night!! What a lovely young gentleman. He was practicing his English with me whilst giving me some very useful tips on what to see whilst in town. He went out of his way to be friendly. The nicest waiter I think I’ve ever come accross! Please visit this place while in town. It’s not all about the food but the food in itself was lovely

On a day trip out with the family, we came across this amazing place. As an American, it was very nostalgic. They had mason jars for drinks, salt and pepper shakers, and even the old sugar container from the 50’s. They hand make the shakes and pour them into a glass at your table. My 7 year old ordered the tacos. They came out in a cute dinosaur holder. The tacos were amazing; including the salsa that came with them. I ordered the burger with fried pickles as a side. I loved it all. My husband ordered the special burrito. It was soooo good. He’s still talking about it hours later. I highly recommend this place. It’s not cheap. It’s a bit on the high side, price wise. But, it’s so worth it.

Awesome to find great vegan and vegetarian comfort food like this in meat-centric Takayama. The soy patty is a homemade recipe by the chef and they started to offer a veggie burger when a local JET teacher made friends with them and they started making it for her. American style burgers, chips, nachos, sodas and desserts as well as brownie and awesome craft beer on draft and in cans.

As ex-Texas residents we craved some Tex Mex. food. We tried the hida beef burger (limited to 10 per day), it was excellent. The beef enchiladas were excellent. The beef tacos and the EVILTEX burger with cheese: all good! Tip: we came at 6.30pm on a Sunday place was packed and they had already run out of a couple of food items. So come early! Service was friendly and English speaking.

We originally went here for the humor of getting Texmex in Japan. Growing up in Arizona, I've had my fair share of Mexican food and I can say we were pleasantly surprised by the food here! The food was delicious, and the staff was extremely helpful and friendly! I highly recommend Evil Tex if you are looking for a place to eat in Takayama!

We are from Florida and found this place after 5 weeks in Japan. It cured our home sickness right away. Authentic Mexican food from an El Paso chef. Didn't try the burgers, but the chicken burrito and enchilada was amazing.

Awesome burger and Mexican food for when you want a break from Japanese cuisine. Both fries and burgers were delicious, and there's a lot of different beers to choose from as well. The interior is cool and laid back, with an apparent motorbike theme. Our server knew great English and was very kind, gave us tips on sights to see in Takayama. When we visited they had a limited offer of a Hida beef burger (only 10 sold per day). It was delicious, but not sure it's worth the additional cost. Might be fun to try for the thing of it anyway! Vegetarian and vegan options are available.

An amazing little place!! It made me feel like I was back in America. They make, by far, the best Mexican food I have had anywhere in Japan, and they have a vegetarian/vegan menu too!! Plus everyone working there was so sweet. You must absolutely try this place if you're in Takayama.

Lovely small restaurant in Takayama. Vegetarian/Vegan Menu is available. Some of the vegetarian options can be modified to be vegan. I recommend the vegan burrito!

Great food! Server was a nice but tough looking older lady you kinda don’t wanna mess with. Popular with locals and foreigners. Am not from the area but the drive to come here was worth it.

#1 restaurant in Takayama! My partner and I had an incredible experience at Eviltex. Their food is absolutely delicious, and their outstanding service and vibrant atmosphere truly enhances the dining experience. It's a place where you can savor mouthwatering burgers while enjoying a fun ambiance. Plus the avocado and lettuce I had on the burger was super fresh!!! And the bun crispy and the patty juicy!!! Thank you and hope you branch out to Australia!!! 🍔

Great place and friendly waitress. We had being walking around trying to find a place to eat for dinner and each restaurant were not letting in customers because they were saying they were booked but some of these places weren’t even full. This place was booked with people but the kind lady still let us in. Burgers were delicious! Staff very friendly. 10/10 recommend here!

Very delicious vegetarian/vegan options! I got the vegetarian burrito and it was so flavorful. Best I’ve had in Japan! Their portion of fries on the side was more than expected too! Overall, great place to eat if staying here or passing through.

A cool spot located right near the Takayama station. I stopped by here on my way out of Takayama and the staff graciously put together a vegan burrito set to go. I had a long train journey and was grateful to have a delicious meal for the ride. I also had a nice conversation with the woman who took my order (seemed like the owner/manager), who spoke English.

Beautiful presentation and incredibly good tasting food. An artistic piece of America in Japanese soil. By far the best tex-mex food I had during my 5-week trip to Japan. All of it is just complimented by an welcoming ambiance and the friendliness of Yukari and Tsuyoshi (the owners) who are incredible individuals, passionate about their work and amicable well beyond the spirit of hospitality. Definitely a must-visit if you're far from home.

My wife, grandmother, and I were part of a tour group passing through the area. We stumbled upon this restaurant while looking for something to eat and decided to give it a shot after seeing the badass motorcycle out front (both my wife and I ride). The customer service was excellent despite our limited Japanese. The food was amazing, and we overall had a great time as a family there. The staff even helped us take a family photo. My wife and I agreed that the next time we are in Japan, regardless of where we are, we will make a detour to come here and eat again.

This place far exceeded our expectations. It was the best quesadilla we’ve had. The presentation of tacos was cute. Whole place was nicely decorated with custom characters. Very friendly staff. Would visit again.

Takayama is a difficult place to get to especially during the winter with the heavy snowfall. By the time you arrive to this town in the midst of the Hida mountains you could take a little break from Japanese staple foods like ramen and sushi. This jem of a Tex-Mex restaurant is a nice place to reminisce home. The restaurant owners are friendly and the food is very rewarding and satiating. I highly recommend steak over rice!

A stone's throw away from Takayama station and Nohi bus centre, Eviltex is a gem! They provide a quick explanation of what their specials are. Provide colourful and easy to read menus with English text next to the Japanese. The restaurant's interior design is much fun to look at while eating their delicious burgers! They also have options for vegans and vegetarians. The local Takayama brew is also an option here. We got the shredded pork burger and the Hida beef burger. They were both delicious! The chips they served as a side came in a generous heap (vs my other experiences of other burger places in Japan). The owners were very kind and accommodating. We couldn't speak much Japanese but we communicated alright. We were given some recommendations for some places to see and another coffee place 10 minutes away. Overall, I think it's a nice spot to go for lunch or dinner!

Good Texmex style food, with generous portions. Don't expect super authentic style, but it's very good given it's in Takayama, a long way from Mexico. Service was very friendly and helpful. Menus are primarily in Japanese but with enough English to get by.
