Good historical site for passers-by, those traveling with Metro busses. Also good for just chilling while seeing the beauty of different people. You can also get groceries from Spar, lunch and meetings.

I enjoyed being here today. Reminiscent of the older days when I used to transit between buses. This place has developed quite well over the years. The presence of newer businesses, retail stores, banks, fast food and sit in restaurants, clubs nearby and chill area spots makes this places a convenient are to be in. With all this new developments, it has maintained its standard of cleanliness. There are public restrooms in the vicinity and a bus ticket office booth. ATMs are on site too. This place is close to many residential buildings and Carlton Centre is in walking distance.

Situated in the heart of the Central Business District of Johannesburg, Gandhi Square Precinct is both a popular tourist attraction and a busy urban hub of commercial and retail activity. The revamp of Gandhi Square was a catalyst for renewed retail interest in this area of Johannesburg and today, with 24 hour security, the square is surrounded by banks, street cafes, restaurants, bars, shops and other unique offerings.

Nice commercial and transit hub. Couple of spots to sit down while you wait for your bus and have a meal or visit one of the restaurants and fast food places overlooking the square. Seemed well guarded so I felt pretty safe with guards pretty much all around. You might get the occasional person asking for some money or some of your food (I got 2 people in the hour I spent there). If I could have my way, it would be lovely if the square could have some street food stands!

This is a place that shows me how united we are as South Africa. In all municipality the City of Johannesburg has manage well their bus service. Metro Bus service is good example of that. GANDHI SQUARE has it own vibe which you can not find it anywhere except there. It has lot of business and the attraction it brings 👍. The place is forever clean. 👍

One the of the City Centre's main transport terminuses, Gandhi Square is where most commuter Metro Bus services start and end. The square is named for Mahatma Gandhi who once worked here as a lawyer when the square was known as Government Square and was home to the city's law courts. Gandhi came to South Africa in 1893. Over time he became active in the politics of resistance, calling for Indian and Chinese people (classified as non-white) to burn their pass (identity) books. He was tried, convicted and sentenced for this. He left for India In 1914 having shaped and established his policy of passive resistance, 'Satyagraha'. His time as a lawyer in Johannesburg is remembered in a 2.5metre statue on the square. Unveiled on October 2 (Gandhi's birthday) in 2003, Tinka Christopher’s bronze statue a young Mohandas Gandhi as a lawyer, a gown over his suit, and a book beneath his arm as he looks ahead. Behind the Gandhi statue is the beautiful heritage building Somerset House which was restored in 2019

It's a nice place and it feels off Joburg with the architecture and spaciousness. The place has plenty options of restaurants that are respectively different, but I feel like it hasn't been used to it's full potential development wise.

Historically important square in middle of Johannesburg’s Central Buisness District. Was home to various important banks and South African companies. Now has unfortunately degenerated with lack of infrastructure repair and maintenance. Broken bins, sidewalks full of rubbish now hosts a sketchy area-especially at night-occasionally there is some respite from the noise once the clubs close.

Gandhi Square used to be busy on a Friday afternoon before Covid; busses coming in and ferrying people to thier destinations. Connecting passengers with other bus routes. Restaurants had patrons. The look and feel now is clearly a post covid feel. Less people commuting and buildings looking all empty. I guess this is the new normal.

I actually visited ghandi Square for the very first time and I won't lie, I was pretty nervous considering the fact that Jozi isn't my playground but I grew to love the area. It was so vibrant, colorful and comprised of a decent amount of commotion - an independent taste and experience of Jozi on my own was elite

Gandhi square is a busy place with people from all walks of life, needing to go somewhere whether it's to work, shop or do business. Metro bus staff have also become much more helpful and direct you where need be. Just be careful of beggars as they are relentless and watch your bag, purse and valuables as in any other public space in the world. The only thing I can say bad is that I lost a bus tag once and never found it but Spar staff were so friendly, they took my details should anyone pick it up and return it. Just a pity that the person who picked it up took it for themselves. Buy a bus tag, makes it cheaper to commute and it's safer.

What I like about Ghandi Square is very safe. Is rare to see suspicious people, the cleanliness is the one that brings me there now and then. Family can roam there any time.

The precinct is quite safe even with its large carbon footprint. Plenty of security on all sides. The buses run mostly on schedule. And the staff at the help desk were very informative and helpful, even walking us to the correct bus.

(Translated by Google) The place is not worth the detour but if you are in the area, I think it's worth a visit. The statue is really stylish and goes well with the place. I went there at 14:00 and I did not feel any animosity or particular dangers. (Original) Le lieu ne vaut pas spécialement le détour mais si vous êtes dans le quartier, je pense que cela vaut une visite. La statue est vraiment stylée et se marie bien avec la place. There is a little sign over there that says: 'Gandhi Mall', so which one is it ? Nevertheless this place is in a very environment and if your driving then finding somewhere to park will be a mission. There are a few outlets around (beauty, restaurants, supermarket...) and this is where most buses stop by.

This should be a 5 star place as it is the central hub for all public transport in and around Johannesburg, however the mere fact that there is not bathroom in sight has just proven how municipalities run thier metros. This place is also does not have any protection when it rains and the ticket office often floods.
