We had breakfast and dinner at Makahiki during our trip in early March. Since it has re opened, this restaurant is no longer buffet style but a pre selected menu with fix price. I was a little hesitant, specially when I saw the prices, but this place did not disappoint. The food was AMAZING, the staff was super friendly for both breakfast and dinner. Breakfast a character meet and greet (you get to Meet Mickey/Minnie as you walk in and then you see 2 other characters "cooking up " your breakfast, we saw Goofy and his son Max). Breakfast comes with fresh fruits, a basket of pastries, your choice of breakfast and drinks. I highly recommend the pancakes with macadamia sauce for breakfast (fluffiest pancakes I ever ate, and that sauce is something I wish they bottle and sell). Dinner comes with an appetizer, your main course, dessert and non alcoholic drink. For dinner we each took something off of the menu and I cannot decide what was ny favorite as it was all so good. One thing is for sure, I'm still dreaming about the pineapple crumble (crust made out of macadamia). Portions were huge for both meals and they bring boxes without you even asking so yoi can box up your meals as you will definitely not finish them (except for that crumble 🤤🤤).

Great way to experience the Disney resort without staying there! Makahiki is accepting dinner reservations for non resort guests on Wednesday and Thursday evenings. The menu is a 3 course setup for a flat rate ($58/person) as well as a great drink selection. The starter options were exceptionally big serving sizes. The reservation includes 2.5hr of parking validations which was the perfect amount of time to wander the grounds and have dinner!

Three course meal in a five star hotel. The rib eye steak was magnificent especially with the combined chimichurri sauce! Then for dessert i had the pineapple cobbler. Ensure your parking ticket is validated to get a FREE parking fee!

We were staying in Waikiki but drove to Aulani for my birthday dinner. It was a 3 course meal with a few choices for appetizer, more choices for the main course, and three dessert options. The tomato soup appetizer was very good - creamy and flavorful. The salads were good as well. For the main course three of us ordered the filet and two ordered the strip steak. Unfortunately the food came out cold. My oldest daughter sent hers back. The rest of us ate ours but I regretted it. The potatoes and broccolini were so cold I couldn’t eat them. The steak I ate but didn’t enjoy after tasting my daughters warm, juicy, and tender steak. We were very disappointed. I wish I would have sent mine back. The dessert was wonderful. I ordered the chocolate cake and it was rich and delicious. They also brought out a cute little happy birthday buntini. The virgin drink I ordered was also very good. The setting was beautiful with live music and the service was great.

No real complaints about the service, but the food was awful. We made the drive over from Waikiki, which isn’t a quick drive and it was for by far the worst meal of our whole trip. Started with bread which isn’t house made, just out of a bag. The Caesar was actually decent, no complaints. The tomato soup was okay. The entrees are where it fell apart. I got the chicken and mushroom pasta, and the pasta was horrible. The chicken was unseasoned, dry and chewy. Like it had zero moisture at all. It wasn’t really a mushroom pasta other than throwing some mushrooms in last minute. 0/10 wouldn’t recommend. My fiancés steak wasn’t cooked properly, it was underdone. Honestly as far as entrees went, I would never go here again and I wouldn’t recommend it to anyone. I probably would even consider staying here in the future just based on the meal. The deserts were even more disappointing they seemed to just be a pre packaged tiny little dessert with very little flavor. Overall would not recommend , it’s ridiculously overpriced for what it is. There was also fruit flies all over the place when they brought the bread out.

I cannot begin to describe the food quality, taste and professionalism of the staff. It's $70 for a 3 course meal, but it is worth it. My family and i had an awesome time. By the way, you don't need to be a hotel guest to book a reservation.

I was a little concerned with the character breakfast given some of the reviews, but the meal was fabulous! Our food was delicious, the service was fantastic and the characters were so fun! The safety protocols right now, the characters are distanced and they buffet is closed. Plated options were great though, and you can ask for more of the fruit and pastries if you like! I ordered the macadamia nut pancakes which were huge and yummy! My husband ordered the pork omelet - it was bigger than his head and filled with so much delicious pork. Overall - of course the meal is a bit overpriced. Character meals always are, but we loved the food and the atmosphere. We’ll definitely be back! Shout out to Ashton for being a fabulous waitress too!

Food tasted good and was prepared well but the overall flavor was very basic. Our group (party of 9) ordered the ribeye, NY strip, salmon, Mahi and shrimp pasta. For our family of 4 (includes our 2 underage kids) we spent $375- that was pretty high for an underwhelming experience. Also the service was extremely slow but we were not dining at peak hours. If you prefer to stay on property for your vacation then you won't have many options for dinner so be prepared to drop a lot of $$... you should do yourself a favor and walk across the street and have dinner at Monkeypod- you will save yourself about $200 and their food/drinks are lights out amazing!

Beautiful location with live local music. First off dinner is Prix Fixe at $68/person. You’d expect something incredible, delicious and beautiful in presentation- it was underwhelming. The only vegan choice was a plant based pasta worthy beyond sausage slices which was mostly soy sauce. The salad offering had no specific vegan choice- waiter ( was kind and checked frequently on the status of vegan vegetarians) offered an ordinary green salad- I asked that they make the Capresé salad with cheese on the side for my carnivore friend. One of our party ordered shrimp fettuccine Alfredo which she said was excessively garlicky. Dessert offerings were limited and none for vegan. I was given a children’s Mickey brownie which was vegan and GF( see picture) about 3” on a child’s plate with no creative garnish. Shame on the Disney, supposedly the most creative company in the world, for presenting such poor offerings at such an exorbitant price for vegans. Really thoughtless. We’ll be eating offsite the remainder of dinners and breakfast. Btw- breakfast is $45/person

Dinner was amazing. Dinner is prix fixe, so you might as well get the fancy dinner. My wife's ny strip was maybe the best steak she's ever had. Fun and beautiful spot if you're in ko Olina for the evening.

My wife and I ate here during our honeymoon stay at Aulani for both a 3-course dinner and the Character Breakfast. Both times were amazing! Post-covid, it is no longer a buffet style dining but you will not leave hungry! The portions were plentiful and the food was delicious for both occasions. Character Breakfast: Food first.... We started each with the fresh juice, kona coffee, malasadas, and parfait. The parfait was really good! The malasadas were a little bit of a miss. While they were good, they were not as good as a fresh Leonard's malasada. They tasted more like a traditional american yeast sugar doughnut, which is still tasty. We then shared the Kalua Pig omelet and the Sweet bread french toast. Both were delicious and very much enjoyed! Now for the characters... We were greeted first with a photo op with Mickey and the pictures came out great! It was $35 for the digital package, which we didn't hesitate to get. The nice thing is that they had a cast member there to take pictures with your phone and those came out great to, so the purchase was not a requirement. We then also got to meet Minnie on the way to our table, and at the table we met Chip, Dale, and Aunty. Each allow a photo op with your phones. High recommend this experience even if you aren't staying at the resort. Dinner: The 3-course meal was more food then we could eat, and very tasty! We shared everything; Roasted tomato soup, wedge salad, chicken & mushroom pasta (sub fettucine instead of spaghetti), 8oz filter mignon, kona coffee cheesecake, and pineapple cobbler. All amazing, all highly recommended. How does this compare to Ama Ama's 4 course dinner? Well, try not to compare as they are very different experiences. Ama Ama is a fine dining experience. Yes you are paying twice as much and yes you are getting smaller portions, but the ingredients used at Ama Ama are more premium/higher quality ingredients along with a higher level of plating and amazing views of the sunset over the ocean. Do both of the dining options, or do the one that fits the vibe you are looking for. You can't go wrong in the choice.

We had great experiences at Makahiki both for breakfast and dinner. The pictures show our 3 course menu from dinner, the food was well made, the service was very friendly and we sat on their outside patio, where you have nice views of the Hotel outdoor area. During breakfast they have a very well organized breakfast with characters where you're guaranteed to hang out with Mikey and at least 3 of his friends - my 6-year-old has a blast.

We had a great meal at Makahiki in the Disney Aulani Hotel. This place is more than just a restaurant. It gives you an experience you'll never forget. The food was really tasty, with great flavors and looked really good. We loved the steak with wine. The taste was perfect. Don't miss out on the cocktails. They were just right and very tasty. They made our evening even better. The feel of Makahiki is calm, so you can chill and enjoy your family time. The staff was super friendly and made sure we were happy. In short, Makahiki is a great place to eat. It has yummy food, a relaxing feel, and great service. If you are at the Disney Aulani Hotel, you should check it out!

Best birthday breakfast of my life thanks to Jason, Richard and also the woman who played the ukulele. They made my birthday a very special day bringing me a cupcake with a candle and singing me the happy birthday in Hawaiian. They made me feel very special and I think it's a very difficult thing to do when you are so far away from your family, so I will never have the right words to thank you for all this. The service was incredible, always worrying if we needed anything and the breakfast was great. The natural pineapple juice was delicious and we were very quiet having breakfast. Thank you for making my birthday such a special moment. Thank you for being so attentive and kind to us Jason, we really appreciated that.

We dined here for the character breakfast, but our experience didn't go as well as we had hoped. The first issue was the reservation time. We had our reservation and arrived a little ahead of it as advised. Upon checking in, we were told to go get in line to meet a character before being seated. After waiting in that line and returning to the host, we were asked to wait in the nearby waiting area anyway. After waiting there, someone came to get our party. This next cast member instructed us to get in line for a different character now before being seated. Finally after that we were seated at a table. In total, we didn't sit down until more than 30 minutes past our reservation time and most of that time was spent standing in lines. So, plan your reservation time accordingly since you won't be eating until well past that time. For the remainder of the experience there were two additional characters that actually came to the table. I would much rather eat first and then stand in lines after. Our second complaint was more of a situational issue. We were seated in the outdoor section of the restaurant furthest away from the building. Normally that may sound nice, but it was a fairly windy day and on top of that, the shape of the building tends to create a wind tunnel effect. We noticed other tables weren't getting battered like we were, but it was really hard to enjoy ourselves. For reference, the gusts of wind were so strong they were moving the metal silverware if left sitting on the table. We had to hold onto everything. If returning, I would absolutely insist on an indoor table, especially if it is at all windy (which it frequently is). Aside from all of that, the food was fine, but nothing special and you can get most of the same items at the other restaurants at the resort.

A great way to start the morning, with a character breakfast. We had a wonderful breakfast with waffles, eggs, and local dishes. The food was cooked perfectly and came out at the perfect temperature. We all took pictures with Mickey and had roaming characters like Goofy, Max, and Pluto. There was a wandering musician playing local Hawaiian music. The staff was always kind and helpful, tending to all our needs. The local wildlife likes to roam under the tables if you're seated near the edges outside. So you might be visited by a mongoose or two. It is mainly for reservations, but walk-ins are welcome. Just come in at 6 am. To add your name to the list as it fills up fast. Prices are at Disney values, so plan accordingly.

The restaurant vibe was nice and open. We experienced the breakfast where characters come to visit which was nice. However the food was quite expensive for what it is. But I think it's because we pay for the experience of meeting the Disney characters. We did go to dinner as well, I think the food was better then. We had a three course meal and they are nice enough to give us special cupcakes as we were on our honeymoon. Note that you do need to book ahead especially for the breakfast character experience as you won't get a table if you try to walk in.

[[Original Post: 3/26/2021]] 'Ella chaps! Aulani is Disney's Hawaiian resort, located about 40 minutes from downtown Honolulu. At first glance, the resort is far smaller than one would expect. During covid, capacity is limited, as is the service. Two stars for two reasons. Aulani feels like a resort Disney created to mimic the Hawaiian Polynesian feel - hence it lacks that pure, authentic Hawaiian Polynesian feel. It's a plastic version feeling. Their full service restaurant currently has a set price dinner menu. For approximately $60 you get a choice of an appetizer, entree, and dessert. While service is great, the food is typical Disney. Portions are small, food is meh. Quite disappointing for the price. Then - not to mention while dinner service takes several hours, you only receive two hours of complimentary parking with restaurant validation. Service took a while - so after what turned out to be a $360 dinner (for four) that last three hours -- Disney wanted to charge us $22 for parking. It was such a tacky negative end to what had been a night we looked forward to. There is so much more outside Aulani that will give you a far greater and more authentic experience.

We ate at Makahiki once for dinner and once for character breakfast. Food wise, I preferred the dinner but, I’m partial because I’m not a huge breakfast person. For the memories and family fun, the character breakfast wins. I feel like this is a given but, it’s worth mentioning, the staff were all friendly, welcoming and engaging. For dinner, I had corn soup and Caesar salad for my appetizer, which I found to be equally satisfying; well seasoned and delicious. For my main course, I ordered a ribeye with a side of shrimp. I thought the shrimp was bland, but the ribeye was perfectly cooked and flavorful. For dessert, I had the pineapple tart with ice cream and tried the brownie with ice cream. My favorite out of the two was the tart. I liked the crumble and that it wasn’t insanely sweet. The cost of dinner was approximately $230. The character breakfast, experience wise, feels opposite of the dinner experience. Dinner was formal and quiet while breakfast is loud and silly. It starts off meeting Mickey Mouse. Families get a private opportunity to take photos with him and now that Covid is less of a concern, even give him a hug. As staff walks you to your table, you make a stop to see Goofy and take more pictures! Throughout breakfast, different characters stop by to say hello and engage your party. Again, pictures. There was also someone playing the ukulele and singing during the entire breakfast. Our entrees were, veggie omelet with potatoes, pancakes with bacon and French toast with fruit compote. The dishes were good but nothing outstanding to note. Approximate cost for breakfast was $124.

Great experience! Currently a sit down restaurant with a prix fixe menu. This restaurant is very diligent with allergies which was very comforting. I have a peanut and tree nut allergy and each item had an allergy tag on it.

Great 3 course menu. Definitely a must if you're staying at aulani. The cast members went above and beyond for our anniversary and gave us a free dessert. Be wary that the portion sizes are large!

We had the character breakfast and it was amazing! We had some omelets & waffles and the food was pretty delicious! They also gave us a free little desert to congratulate us (we got married the day before) server was so nice and the characters were super sweet. 100% recommend!
