Summary: Basic, convenient, and inconsistent vegan "junk" food. Ambience: It is a small building in the middle of a parking lot with some nice (yet very large) tables to sit at in some spaces. Just know this is window order, they bring out, you do the rest style. Service: We went four times in six days and each day service was night and day. Sometimes we had really interested, nice counter service that wanted to help us. Other times it definitely felt like they just didn't care. "Hey what would you recommend?" "Well get the hot dog if you like hot dogs" <-- style of advice. Also, the speed was significantly variable. We were never there when there was a line. We were never there when there was more than one other table. However, some days the food came out in 10 min, others 40. Being in the Hawaiian islands for three weeks now, we get island time and being patient, just note that. Food: this is where the stars really get hurt here. Day 1, our breakfast burrito was probably one of the best we have had in 10+ countries and 20+ states. So we started on a high. However, it was all down hill from that first breakfast burrito. The following breakfast sandwich was okay but nothing special. The smoothies consistently wildly varied from sweet and thick to watery and runny. The hot dogs are dry and come on buger buns, quite boring. The chicken sandwich is really flavorless. We felt like it was just a fried alpha patty with nothing done to it. The BLT was... the rice paper bacon was REALLY salty and overbaked so it crumbled rather than had a bite and any chew. The bread, even when toasted got a little soggy. It was all just moderately okay taste wise. Suggestions: please get some sides. There are tons of easy to prep sides that could be quick to get out for a few dollars more. The potato chips literally started hurting our mouths by day 3 and we ended up throwing away most of them. Also, we know everyone is having COVID staff problems. Well written and trained procedures and recipes should help with the consistency part as well. Overall, if you need a quick vegan fix, this is the best place in Kona, but don't expect to be blown away.

Delicious!! I wish this place was everywhere I went in the world. This place is a must try whether or not you are a vegan/vegetarian. Their breakfast burrito is tasty but the best of them all is their nachos. JACK FRUIT NACHOS is a must try. The staff here keeps telling me their Chili hot dog is great but I haven't been able to get my hands on them. They haven't received chili in months. The best thing about eating here besides the food being delicious is you don't feel bloated after eating. It's very good for you. Great place to get healthy food.

This is a standalone shop in a parking lot with a couple canopies to eat under. The atmosphere has a zen feel to go along with the vegan vibe. The chicken sandwich and chicken burrito were very good

In search of vegetarian food in Hawaii, we came across this vegan restaurant! I just loved their concept! Staffs were friendly! Sandwiches tasted great and smoothies were delicious! If you are a vegetarian, do try their food! You would like it!😇

Fantastic! All around! Very nice, down to earth people, delicious food, nice outdoor seating. Regardless of whether or not you’re plant-based or vegan, the food was fresh, natural, and filling! Portions were excellent and pricing was reasonable! I spilt the Jackfruit nachos and vegan poke bowl with my mom. We both loved it and will come back :)

Holy Guacamole 🥰🤯😍 THIS place will make any vegan stay in Hawaii 🤙🏼 Okay but for real, protect this place at all costs--close to the beach, amazing (and that's short selling it) Ah-MAYZING FOOD!! Not to mention? The guys running it work their hearts out, and don't forget to show some love to the unofficial mascot, Cookie (cute little pup). They have Vegan breakfast, lunch, dinner and snacks & smoothies 🤤 Look, even if you're a carnivore, don't sleep on Herbivores Cafe. Just eat there, or don't, I hate waiting in line 😉

We were looking for some great vegan food while in Kona. We were not disappointed at all. We were looking for a place for breakfast, and herbivores came up in our search. The breakfast food was great and we liked it so much we decide to go back for lunch that same day. Still great amazing food. The desserts were unbelievable. The Oreo cookie cheesecake, and the raspberry pudding. Amazing! It may not look like much kind of set up in a parking lot but you won’t be disappointed. We will definitely go back on our next trip.

The Pohaku Bowl was delicious but a little smaller than I thought it would be. When I told them this, they gave me a salad promptly with a minimal upcharge. The first picture is how it came; second is with the extra salad mixed. I loved the purple sweet potato! Interesting and tasty combo. As for ambiance, they were playing reggae music, which sounded nice, but the lyrics were pretty much all about marijuana use. This is fine, but maybe not great for minors to be hearing. The staff were not wearing masks, so keep that in mind if it bothers you. It would be nice to have allergy warnings and ingredient lists available. My husband and I both have some pretty common allergies and had to ask questions that the staff did not confidently answer. It wasn't cheap, but I would go again for the delicious food!

All plant based so its a vegetarian haven in Kona amongst all the seafood on Ali'i Drive. Its a small shack in a parking lot but the food was fresh and very flavorful. Lots of options to choose from!! Everything that we ordered was really good!!

Food was good I had the chili dog. Unfortunately I was too early for the dinner menu and couldn't get the pizza. Small place with covered outdoor area to eat if you want.

First thing you should know is the restaurant is in an active parking lot. Everything was very slow. Burger was basic salad was basic. Very very vegan friendly which was nice. Lots of Anti meat pictures feels almost like vegan propaganda if you like that kind of stuff.

This is an amazing place for vegan / vegetarian folks. We ordered the Puno burger and a Pohaku bowl. The patty in the burger seems to be outsourced and I’m not a huge fan. The bowl was amazing. The cashew cheddar sauce in the bowl was just amazing. The mix lemonade is tangy. Desserts were too sweet so choose accordingly- they get it from a baker. Options for dessert are almond flour cookie, strawberry cheesecake etc….

I had the grain burger and it was decent. Nothing special about it. The jackfruit nachos was pretty good, we enjoyed that one the most of our orders. Nice outdoor seating area in the middle of the parking lot.

I may have already posted a review after our first visit. Excellent vegan street food! Jeffrey is the heart and soul of the shop, working here every weekend. We loved everything we tried... Breakfast burrito, pizza, BLT... Great smoothies! They serve breakfast lunch and dinner.

This is the spot for meat free dining! Absolutely the best Jack Fruit nachos on the planet. We all speak with a tone of reverence for the food that comes out of this little gem. Don't miss this one, get the nachos for sure. We didn't have anything we didn't like. Our kids had no idea how good meat free could be.

Good vegan food. We had had their pele burger and jackfruit nachos and dragon fruit smoothie. Food was okay. I liked the Nachos better. The burger patty had a meat like texture so if you don’t like that, don’t order their burger. I lovedddd their smoothie. Try their smoothies.

Amazing little spot with great food and a fun atmosphere. If you're tired of the fried foods or don't want the meat centric menus everywhere else, then this is the place to be!

Herbivores is an excellent place for vegans/ vegetarians to dine at on the Big Island in the Kailua-Kona area. They're a fully vegan restaurant with a huge menu to choose from which includes things such as Pizza, Mexican Food and Burgers to name a few. They have outdoor seating so it may be difficult to dine in if it rains.

My husband & I frequently got our breakfast here while we visited the big island. It was always hot, delicious and quick! One of the best vegan breakfasts I have had. We often got the Ghandi burrito and MacVegan breakfast sandwich. Service was always super friendly too. The small restaurant is in a paid parking lot by a strip plaza. The restaurant does have a promo code for customers for the parking.

Wonderful food truck. Great space with lots of shade that you can just hang out in. Free water refills, otherwise you need to bring your own bottles. Lots of plant-based stickers and literature. The jackfruit nachos are so good. We got them twice. Also really flexible hours (8am-8pm at the moment) and the ability to order ahead and pick up in the drive-through.

Excellent food! Used to be a drive-through coffee shop, so it’s small, but they make some big food. Their “tuna” salad is terrific. My sweetheart likes the hotdogs. Completely vegan, and really delicious. The owner is an absolute sweetheart, as is her daughter.

We had breakfast here and I can't recommend it enough. The Lox Bagel, Poke Bowl, and MacVegan breakfast muffin were all 5 star. The coffee is also excellent. Will likely come back during our short visit for lunch or dinner.

Small place in the middle of parking lot. We came to have jackfruit nachos that was loaded with more beans and less of jackfruit and nacho chips. Taro burger was ok and so was tofu rice dish. Food was okay, missing flavors. Little pricey

I love the southwest breakfast burrito! I get it about half the time I go there. The ingredients are always fresh and they’ll make substitutions if you want them.

Happy to support another plant-based place! Food was good. We got the chik'n burrito and tuna melt - would love an even stronger flavor!

Fantastic atmosphere, and great food! Gluten free options too!! Everything here is 100% vegan, and it still tastes good (this is coming from a meat lover)

I tried the walnut chickpea tacos and thought they were fantastic. Portions were pretty good and the fresh lettuce, onions and tomatoes along with the dressing paired well with the seasoned crumbles. The chickpea "tuna" sandwich is also pretty tasty. A bit on the pricey side. Wait times are very long so be prepared to sit around. I've tried their dessert items a couple times and was disappointed both times. The cinnamon bun was really dry and bland and the frosting was on the thin/runny side, which wasn't to my taste. The oatmeal sandwich cookie LOOKED devine, but that was about as much as you're gonna get. The way I tend to judge desserts is whether or not each piece of it can stand alone. What I mean by this is, are the cookies and filling delicious each on their own? With the sandwich I got, the cookies were even more dry and bland than the cinnamon bun. The frosting was absurdly sweet (probably as an attempt to mask the blandness of the cookies). So I recommend saving your sweet tooth and money for better desserts elsewhere and just stick to the entree items. Customer service is inconsistent. Sometimes it's pleasant and friendly, other times I get someone that's indifferent. Parking is easy and the outdoor eating area is appreciated.

Long wait, food was pretty good. The southwest breakfast burrito wasn't as spicy as I expected, but the cashew cream was very tasty. The tuna salad was decent, could use more spices but the ingredients were very fresh.

I got the Turo burger and the hibiscus lemonade. Both were delicious! It’s a food truck with plenty of outdoor seating with shade. Two things to note- they seem to use a mix of plastic and paper straws so make sure to ask for a paper straw! Also, the parking lot is paid parking. :/
