The history & Mission of St. Michael the Archangel was founded at the time of the Kingdom of Hawaiʻi on our beautiful church grounds just a short walk away from Huliheʻe Royal Palace. The priests of the Congregation of the Sacred Hearts of Jesus and Mary established our faith community on July 5, 1840, with the first permanent church building having been completed in 1850. #hawaii #travel

Went to mass there today and was very impressed! The homily was very good, the church was well maintained and clean. They had a beautiful procession for the Feast of the Child and the music was very good! They had signs outside the Church showing human development and supporting life; what a beautiful example of Church teaching. Everyone was very friendly, definitely hope to come back next time I’m on Big Island!

First time on the island looking for a Catholic Church.. boy did we find the place! This church was bright and airy. Everyone was very welcoming and made you feel like you have been coming here for years. The music is outstanding with a Hawaiian touch.

This mass was very disappointing. I have attended mass here on several occasions over the last eight years at earlier times of the day and was happy with the reverence of the service.This time the mass at 4:00 pm on Sunday was focused more around the gentleman playing the piano and singing and not so much on the true reason why we go to mass which is honoring our Lord Jesus Christ. There were many unnecessary modifications to the music to suit him and upstage Christ. I feel musicians in church should be humble when singing praise to God and not looking for an applause.. We go to church to give praise to God, not the “Choir”.I tithe weekly at my home parish and usually give when on vacation but, it didn’t feel right to support this mass which really saddens me.

I loved this church so much! From the shell leis they greeted us with to the beautiful liturgy to the fun outdoor gift shop, St. Michael the Archangel created a wonderful experience for everyone attending Mass. It didn't hurt that as we walked to the church we were treated to one of the most beautiful sunrises I've ever seen. Wonderful, sacred place.

We were met at the door with shell leis and hugs and welcomes. The church was full, the music filled the church, the pastor gave a great message and I would go again. And that is saying a lot for this relapsed Catholic.

Gorgeous Catholic Church with hospitable parishioners. Attended afternoon Mass. Thankfully planned our 20 years of marriage blessed and renewal of vows with Fr. Lio. Very bright and enlightening inside-calming.

Very nice, large church. We went to 7am Mass which was in English and Hawaiian. At the end they did a special hula prayer which was so beautiful. Fr. Lio is a wonderful and a very hard working priest.

I came for vacation.. this church I loved it. I had to give thanks to our Lord and savior Jesus Christ 🙏 For the blessings he has given me 🛐

So quiet and truly serine makes me want to go back to church on a weekly basis. If only they would stay out of politics.

Hearing mass is where we worship and pray to our Father in heaven on earth along with Mama Mary and all His disciples.

Beautiful church, friendly parishioners, five minute walk from Holiday Inn Express. Attended 7:00 am mass on a Tuesday. After mass, the Pastor graciously blessed a Koa cross necklace I bought for my husband. Mahalo!

Beautiful church and love how they have daily rosary after daily mass. I can't wait to come back to this church when I visit the area
