First time here and wasn’t disappointed at all, crowded, but was seated quickly. Our waitress was very attentive and we didn’t have to ask for anything. Food was great, I will definitely be back.

We are brand new in town and we know where our Saturday morning breakfast place will be. The food was excellent as was the service!

Like stepping back in time with good diner food hot and plentiful. Cozy atmosphere and friendly. Breakfast, lunch or diner served and always have specials. Very clean, friendly service, and my meat was omelette & hash browns were perfect. Doesn't look like much from the outside; but, the interior is interesting (50's and 60's décor).

I've been here twice, breakfast and lunch. Both times exceeded my expectations. Staff was very friendly and food was great. Their servings are more than enough, so don't expect to order extras!

Looking for a laid back, family friendly, no frills breakfast and lunch joint? This is THE spot. No over-priced, underwhelming options here. Good cookin. Hot coffee. Kind staff. Recommend the french toast, as it's battered in custard giving it an AMAZING taste!

My wife and I stopped in for a late breakfast around 10:45 on Sunday morning. We had only been here once before and had a great experience, BUT....today when we were seated, the bus boy cleared our table and grabbed the tip from the previous customer. A few minutes later the lady that seated us asked if the previous customer left a $20 tip and I had said the bus boy took it. She said the bus boy doesn't take the tips, the servers do and just glared at me. She then asked the bus boy in Spanish if he took the tip and he said no. She then glared at me and said the servers work hard for their tips insinuating my wife or I had grabbed it. It started to become an uncomfortable scene. I worked in food service in my youth and started to question the condition of our food if one of the servers thought we swiped her tip. My wife and I felt insulted and left without eating. I didn't catch any names, but the server was a heavy young lady with a mole under her nose. As good as the food was on our first visit, we'll never go there again. Wow!

A little crowded but I was seated quickly. Food and service were really good although due to the crowd there for Sunday breakfast/lunch there was a bit of a wait to order and then receive my order. This is a diner and home style atmosphere which I like. I'll be back. Update: came for breakfast but ending up trying their Thursday lunch special, which is pot roast. In a word: don't. Meat was bland in taste and didn't bring to mind a quality roast. I should have stuck with the breakfast.

It's a great diner. I gave it only 4 stars because diners don't get the griddle hot enough to properly sear a steak. No worries, any diner is like that. Just know that the food was great and the service was spectacular. They were packed, with a line out the door, and they still managed to be exceedingly attentive.

We were unexpectedly blocked out of our house by the "Roofers" ..... so brunch seemed like a good idea. Both of us had their breakfast sandwich : Buscuit and bacon, and English muffin and ham . Hot, fresh and very tasty . Friendly waitress who loves working there. Good experience and the least expensive trip to a restraunt in a very long time !

Amazing food me and my wife had too be in town Monday and Tuesday and we liked the chain in Ottawa so we tried the one in Olathe by the antique store and it was amazing. Definitely plan to return.

Food is always served hot and fast. Love that Prices are great and I don't feel I am overpaying. Checking out seems to consistently be slow with an ever present line. Not sure what is going on there but that's why I rated Service 4 out of 5.

Great service and outstanding food. On the higher end cost wise but worth a couple extra bucks. I have a group that have been meeting for breakfast at Hy-Vee, but the food and service have declined and not by a little. Who doesn't serve hash browns for breakfast? Ronnies next week and Old 56 the week after. Definitely going to be in the rotation. Thanks Pete. Great job.

We are big fans of Old 56. Most Sunday's you will find us there enjoying a delicious breakfast. The prices are fair and the servings are generous. My favorite is the #2 with two eggs over hard (on the grill) hash browns, four slices of bacon and a slice of sourdough bread.

We enjoyed our experience at Old 56 Family Restaurant. Everyone was very friendly and the restaurant was decorated nicely. My spouse and I both had the chicken fried steak with mashed potatoes. I also had their mixed vegetables. The food had a good flavor but the mixed vegetables did seem very fresh. The mashed potatoes tasted like instant potatoes. The chicken fried steak was not as crispy as I usually like it and I am not convinced that is was homemade. This is a dress casual restaurant. The food was not bad but did not seem like a scratch kitchen. This restaurant had recently reopened after being closed due to the pandemic.

Good place, but small & crazy busy! Waited almost an hour for my to go order. Hostess was friendly and apologized for my wait and personally got my order. We got 2 hamburgers (everything on the side so you chose what goes on it) and the appetizer chicken tenders w/ honey mustard. All good but you can definitely tell the *burgers were previously frozen and have that charcoal flavoring added on them. No complaints about the chicken tenders and honey mustard. *I stand corrected, they use a charbroiled grill and burgers are not the frozen kind.

We’re rushed and asked to pay before finished eating. If wanting guests to leave at 2 let them know before ordering. We would have gone somewhere else. Part of eating with friends is the social aspect.

The restaurant was not too busy when we visited. Got seated right away and the food and service was pretty quick. My only complaint would be the breakfast menu was fairly small. Our server was always quick to refill our coffee. The taste of the food was not bad, but I would prefer more options. Overall, great quick service.

I don't often give 5 stars, but this place earned it. It was packed with locals. As any trucker knows, that's a sign of good, hometown food. Our server Joyce was very friendly and stayed on all her tables...we lacked nothing. Also, one of their jellies was Smuckers orange marmalade, rare to find and made my day. Thank y'all. We will be back!

The food is alright, not the best. social distancing was not seen here... I seen the owner reply to a comment about this and I understand the RESTRAUNT buisness is struggling but think about the hospitals over flowing with patients as another spike in covid happens.

Never been here before. It was a nice little diner. A little pricey though. Two eggs, pancakes ( regular size)and two pieces of bacon ( nothing special really), plus a bacon cheeseburger and onion rings( bought to go) was around 40.00. Pancakes had a nice taste , burger was big and tasty. The server was nice n friendly. They are only open til 2. Might be back for lunch sometime. Maybe 🤔

Out server was so friendly, and always made sure we had fresh coffee. The food came out faster than I was expecting for a Saturday morning. The food here is amazing. This will now be my new breakfast place!

  • 2/5 Bryan T. 1 year ago on Google
The food was mediocre at best, very bland and not overly hot. I ordered steak and eggs with the steak medium rare. The waitress told me (after I ordered but before we received the food) that the steak would be well done. She said it doesn't matter how you order it, it'll be over cooked and that's why your food is taking so long. It was a very expensive trip to a crummy diner serving bland food. I'm gluten free, so I didn't order anything with gluten. A lot of the patrons in the place were eating biscuits and gravy and pancakes and the like, so maybe that food is more flavorful. If you're eating healthy there are dozens of better places to go.

My family and I wanted to try something new this morning for breakfast and my daughter suggested this place! So glad we tried it. Food was absolutely delicious and the service was so quick and pleasant! Might be the new family hot spot for us on the weekends

A bit of a wait on Sunday morning but food was worth it. I would definitely go back. Good ol homestyle diner cooking

  • 4/5 Dave M. 6 months ago on Google
Very good basic diner food. My son and I had a late breakfast here of eggs, pancakes, and hashbrowns with a side of toast. Meal came out quick and was cooked exactly as ordered. Not the best breakfast in town, but reasonably priced, fast, and friendly service. If you don't want fancy stuff, come here. Only thing not good was the coffee. Very weak coffee..like drinking coffee flavored hot water. My son made a comment afterward that it would take a lot of cups of that coffee to get a caffeine jolt. They should offer two options. Their current coffee for the folks who want weak dishwater coffee, and a strong, bold option for those who want one or maybe two cups of joe for a strong wake-up.

We really enjoyed our visit and food. Good ole home cooked style food. Our server could have been a little more pleasant/happy, but she was still good and took care of us. We look forward to visiting again.

The food was very good. It filled me up and was no more than McDonald's. We should support places like this instead of fast food gatbage. It's healthier and better for sure.

Traditional small town service on the corner of a big city. Sorry no photos today. They can do eggs a thousand ways, however you want them. Sausage or bacon both are fine. You will get hash browns. Coffee is decent for a cafe. If I recall this place used to be Waid's. That was years ago. If you are a car buff, enjoy the displays.

Food and service were of good quality. All personnel wore masks. When we entered people were seated per good social distance guidelines. Halfway through our breakfast, however, the hostess seated a party in the next booth - with two people within 12 to 18 inches of my wife. We moved to the next booth. The hostess either did not care about social distance guidelines or was not properly informed. A prior review suggests the former. We would like to return and support local businesses, but are not willing to place ourselves at risk.

The service was really good. The food came out sizably portioned and was reasonably priced. It was fresh, and tasted good. I had steak and eggs, which I thoroughly enjoyed. I do plan on returning soon to try their humongous sized french toast (my roommate ordered that) and another slice of coconut cream pie (which was to die for).

Excellent service great price, lots of delicious value. I had the scramble with sausage. The guys each ordered the pork chop breakfast, and each got 2 chops with their eggs, toast, & hash browns for like $13.95!

I have been eating at this establishment for years and the food Is always served hot and every employee Is customer orientated , the bathroom Is cleaned on a regular basis and now with the copid 19 like all restaurents working very hard to stay open so please go over to support your local businesses , They are open and they recently had someone who did some damage with their vehicle to the front of the building but are In the process of having this repaired , A sign out front lets everyone know they are open.

Stopped in for lunch on a hot Tuesday afternoon. The iced tea was refreshing and, surprisingly, they had a Beyond Burger on the menu. It was cooked perfectly with a big slice of onion. Super friendly service and filled with regulars that have been enjoying the hospitality for years.highly recommend this place

Always great food and service. One down side is that they didn't maintain social distancing of customers when they sat a family in the booth next to us.
