Unfortunately cannot give the hotel a very good rating, despite its amazing potential, for the following reasons 1. 🎉 Saturday night was a huge party with 0 possibility to sleep. Music blasting and people screaming at midnight, 0 response from staff when calling on the phone or emailing to complain. Don’t come here if you want rest. In the morning as an apology we were offered free breakfast 🍳, which was a nice gesture. 2. The photos are misleading: rooms have no carpeting , no beautiful wallpapering. Rooms have potential due to the old wooding, stonework, but needs reworking. 3. No thought went into planning: there is no plugs 🔌 next to beds and no bedside tables. There is a tub and a shower but only 1 floor mat. The hotel provides only 1 shower gel in shower: nothing next to the bathtub, no shower caps etc. 4. The wood is old (which is amazing) but dangerous since a simple touch resulted in a huge splinter. 5. No kettle, tea or coffee in the room. Mind it, we stayed in their “Maisonette suite”, which is supposed to sleep 3, but doesn’t actually have a third bed. Finally, there is no phone in the rooms to contact the reception of help is needed. On the plus side, the first room we were placed in also had no plugs next to the table and a broken sofa, and we were quickly moved to another room. The restaurant decor is gorgeous, and it looks like that was decorated by a totally different person than the rest of the hotel. The coffee ☕️ is one of the best in Kassel! Our complementary breakfast was nice since it was free, but for €16 I’d say it’s too expensive given there is no fresh juices, no eggs choice etc. Location is excellent, but the poor service trumps it. Not worth over 200 euros per night (without breakfast). Overall I would not recommend, but very curious to see where this hotel grows since it has everything it needs to be an absolutely brilliant place!

Just spent 3 Nights at the Renthof. It's an interesting historic building full of character and crammed with eccentric art. The two best attributes are it's superb restaurant and professional staff. Well worth a stay.

As a Canadian who doesn’t have daily exposure to historic buildings, the Renthof is an extraordinary experience. The rooms have modern comforts but don’t hide the building’s age (the main attraction). The breakfast shows a great deal of effort to source the best local and organic food. The location - close to downtown and the Orangerie - can’t be beat.

I have always preferred this kind of old house renovation hotel. The rich historical atmosphere, delicious food, and convenient location make it probably the best hotel in downtown Kassel. Service in the restaurant was average.

Renthoff Kassel is a fabulous place to stay. The location is near city center which is super helpful. The room as clean, cozy, and comfortable with a fantastic view (room #308). The people were very helpful as we asked many questions. The breakfast each morning was absolutely wonderful. And, finally, the sirloin steak we had on our last night in their restaurant was the best I think I've ever had. The kitchen is separated by windows from the guests and it is neat to see the chef, who is very, very talented, do his work. I like the connection between those who are making the food and those who are eating it. I think they must enjoy seeing people enjoy their food, and I was amazed to see how much work chefs do to prepare the food. If I go back to Kassel, this is where I'll go for sure.

Charming hotel with good service. Location is close to center and the breakfast (incl coffee) was nice. There is no AC in the rooms so can be warm on hot summer days. Secure parking in closed garage

Lovely hotel and location. Staff and food were excellent but overall expectations let down by lack of room facilities, no aircon, no coffee/tea making facilities or mini fridge to put cool bottles if water in. For the price charged, these should be standard.

Very nice hotel. Staff is very friendly. The building, bar, restaurant, rooms and facilities all look amazing. Rooms could use a desk to work on, but that‘s a minor issue. The restaurant is probably one of the best in Kassel. Had an amazing saddle of venison.

A very nice gem in Kassel. Spent the night here on our way to the alps. Very nice rooms, spectacular ambiance in general and extremely friendly english speaking staff. The combination of very old building with modern state of the art desig is nicely done. The food in the restaurant is well worth the money but dont expect something fancy. The temp in our room was very warm, no way to adjust so we slept with window open all night - it was winter. If you need a relaxing stop in Kassel, this is the place.

Ridiculously overpriced. Almost € 200 per night for two-star level: very small room with a bed cramped into it. No coffee etc. in room. Location perfect for Documenta, however. Restaurant and bar very good.

I really loved the location, food, service and vibe but please don't have loud parties until far past after midnight during the week!

One of my favourite hotels in the world! I stayed here with my husband and 2 children for one night and we all loved it. The property is an amazing 13th century (former) monastery. It is an architectural delight. Renthof has been sympathetically restored, but with great flair. You get the impression that the owners truly love the building. The decor has been chosen with great care and attention to detail. I am extremely picky when it comes to cleanliness and by my standards I'd say our room was spotless, I actually can't recall staying in a cleaner hotel room. The staff were friendly, professional and more than willing to help with our requests. We had dinner and breakfast from the hotel's restaurant and we all really enjoyed our meals. They have some wonderful vegetarian options to boot. The vegan pumpkin and coconut soup was especially delicious! Don't be put off by the 3 star rating! It is easily on par with many of the 5 star hotels I've stayed at over the years. I wouldn't hesitate to stay again.

This hotel is off the charts awesome. A restored monastery building. Located right near the river, allowing beautiful walks. Walking distance to main town square etc. The rooms were excellent. Beds and pillows perfect. Washrooms were brand new and state of the art. Restaurant was wonderful. Wow is about all I can add. This is indeed a boutique hotel and it exceeded our expectations. Staff were fun too.

Absolutely fantastic. Excellent service, perfectly prepared meals expertly presented. I had lamb which was very tender and perfectly cooked. Excellent wine list as well. I will definitely return. Highly recommend this restaurant. And, make a reservation. Ot was pretty full.

Quiet, classic and really lovely. Rooms are good size and bed is very comfortable as well as the toilet is stylish and showers are easy to use with good water flow. The only downside is bed covers are small and no phone to call for help to the help desk .. the restaurant is amazing with great quality food locally and internationally with good breakfast included.

Cosy place to stay. Neat rooms, enough place and nicely dressed. Kind personel and good atmosphere. Just a few hundred meters to the city centre. Nice park in front of the hotel within 100 meters.

This place is marvelous. It may not have so amenities, but you are staying in a place that was constructed about the time of Columbus' journey. Has an amazing spiral staircase.
