Frankly, we four, all 70 plus and were reputed journalists in their days, had no knowledge of Nihar on the Ganges. While booking, we therefore were a bit apprehensive. On spending two nights there our fear was unfounded. The place, small, is quiet and serene with the river flowing. Sitting virtually on the river bank, we basked in soft winter sun. The old bungalow has furniture of bygone era, but complete with modern amenities. Some might find the rooms a bit cramped but we did not. The food was sumptuous and hospitality superb. On the whole, we enjoyed our stay so much so some of us decided to come again.

Went with family as a group of five for one night. Beautiful gardens, well kept rooms with good amenities. Excellent food and great service from friendly and accommodating staff. Lovely view of the river directly from the garden. Slight difficulty with one attached bathroom between two rooms, however separate washrooms outside were available and staff were helpful. Will definitely visit again!

This place has a very interesting history and has a great view. It has one of the best locations and is north of the Panihati River Jetty and near the historic Sukhchar Girja Church. Unfortunately it needs to be done a little more to attract tourists and visitors for a short stay. Though only with three rooms, but has only one riverside riverfront room. The Restaurant needs to be made more affordable and attractive for people of all hues. Security has to be improved and must give the prospective guests a better understanding of an secured environment.

Beautiful heritage property. The flowing Ganges and nature meet . Great for photoshoot, family functions. Food is very good and staff is very courteous and the service is very quick. If you are a peace lover , it is a must go place. The owner of the property is a very kind and smiling lady with an awesome management skills. Every corner was decorated so well and it also had a small stage and cafetaria .Loved it Highly recommended!

I was there for a set menu dinner, didn't stay. Obviously their USP is the location and the property itself. They have retained the old world charm quite well and seems well maintained too. I didn't take a look inside the rooms though. The food was good. It was a continental menu, but in terms of the execution, the continental was in spirit only, it's more like an Indian interpretation of continental. However the food was good and I must congratulate the chef and the staff for the gastronomic experience. Flavour, texture and quality of ingredients was quite good.

Peaceful ambience, comfortable and clean rooms, friendly staff and delicious food... What else can one ask for on a holiday! To top it all it is just an hour away from the hustle and bustle of the city. A special mention about the room decor which has an old world charm to it. Really liked the idea of keeping books and board games in each room. All you need to do is sit back and watch the glistening water of the Ganges flow and enjoy the breeze in your hair. A must visit.😊

Nihar is situated at a prime location right beside the river. Thus it is called as Nihar - on - Ganges. This can be referred as a riverfront getaway. Very near to Kolkata … one can access easily. Everything was well organised. Staffs are really helpful. Overall nice experience. Can think of your next holiday here.

Century old house is now a homestay on the bank of Ganga. Peaceful place to stay and work. 3 big room is enough to accommodated 10-12 people. If you are in group, this is the best choice.

Spent a night with the fam and it was such a lovely experience. The team at Nihar took great care to make sure all our requests were taken care of. The building is gorgeous and well maintained. The ambience is very relaxing. We visited during a spell of rain, so the gardens were lush and the weather extremely pleasant. The rooms are spacious and well appointed. The bathrooms are neat and clean. They provide in room amenities so you don’t have to worry about forgetting anything (toiletries or otherwise.) The food was homely- would recommend the mutton or chicken curry!

Booked the whole place for a day/night out with the extended family and our dog, Bruce. Fantastic location (albeit with a bad approach road), level of cleanliness, helpful staff and scrumptious food made this fam-jam one to remember. They even went out of their way to prepare food for our dog and made him feel extremely comfortable. Well done to the management and their on site manager Mr. Biswajit, for doing an exceptional job. Will definitely come back here again. Cheers!

I spent a night with two friends at Nihar. It's a gorgeous house, full of old-world charm, and situated right on the Ganges. The food was incredible and the service immaculate and straight from the heart. I've been living in New Zealand for the last 20 years - and this is a place for which I'm willing to return again!

First things first. Hospitality. The staff is beyond warm and welcoming, special shouput to Babloo and the rest of the staff members who made sure that our stay was memorable. The rooms and the entire area is clean, the food served is impeccable and so easy on the stomach. Please try their fish fingers as well as fish cutlet, it's beyond amazing. I have to talk about the location, although the entrance is a bit narrow for a car to pass through, you are bound to forget it all once you step inside the villa. The garden is so well kept and so traditional and so bengali. There is virtually no pollution and it is so quiet, you feel like all your anxieties ebb away. The rooftop cafe has one of the most jaw dropping view of Hooghly river. Everything is perfect. Family and friends should definitely take some time off during weekend and relax at this quiet, green nook. This needs more promotion. I am so serious.

A Serene Retreat Along the Ganges Nihar by the Ganges provides a peaceful escape with excellent service and amenities. We stayed in Unit 2, which features two spacious bedrooms, a clean and roomy bathroom, and doors that open up to the garden and spectacular views of the Ganges. Room: The two spacious bedrooms in Unit 2 feature modern furnishings and conveniences like wifi, TV, mini-fridge, and comfortable beds. The pristine bathroom has a nice rain shower. The real highlight is the garden view of the Ganges from the private patio. Service: The staff goes above and beyond to attend to guests' needs. Nayek and Babloo in particular provided prompt, friendly service with utmost professionalism. They ensured we had everything required to make our stay enjoyable. Location: The property enjoys an ideal setting along a tranquil stretch of the Ganges in Sodpur about an hour drive from Kolkata main. It feels worlds away from the hustle and bustle, yet most what you need remain easily accessible. The river create a peaceful ambience. Dining: Meals highlight excellent Bengali cuisine made with fresh local ingredients. The fish dishes are a standout. There are also continental options available. Breakfast is included, and features a nice variety of fruits, breads, eggs and sausages. With its idyllic position, pampering service, and comfortable rooms, Nihar by the Ganges provides a memorable place to relax. The overall experience exceeds expectations for quality and value. I highly recommend it for travelers looking to experience the magic of the Ganges.

I had sent my parents for their anniversary. They were very happy with the surroundings and the services. I had booked Unit 1 Sukha Ganga for them which was a large room for 2. The view was beautiful, with lush greenery. Food was very tasteful, a big thanks to the cook Mr. Anup and also to Mr. Rozario , Mr. Kush and Mr. Bablu for looking after them. The Manager, Mr. Biswajit Das was also really kind to make arrangements for a complimentary cake so that my parents could celebrate. Definitely a place to visit again and again. Highly recommended.

Our short trip with extended family. Serene, calm and relaxing. We had four senior family members aged around 80 years. They were overwhelmed by the river view, ambience and of course the food. Very tasty and nice repertoire. Rooms are very neat and clean. Excellent staff. Approach lane is a bit tricky but manageable. Better to spend time in the resort than venturing out.

We stayed at this location for a couple days over a weekend. This place has serene views of the Ganges with excellent accommodations and great food. The place is well maintained decorated with nostalgic items with old world feel spread across the property. We came with a need to relax and get a taste of the Bengali way of life from years gone. We relived the experience at this property with the excellent care provided by the ever helpful staff. We would like to thank Anup for the excellent Bengali delicacies he cooked based on our request. The other staff Kush and Babul were extremely warm and caring and catered to all our needs during our stay. We would strongly recommend for folks to come travel and stay at Nihar to get a taste of Bengali way of living and it’s culture.

Excellent property steeped in history, close to Kolkata, with a view of the Ganges. Tastefully decorated and well maintained. Well-behaved staff, always ready to please. Perfect for a couple of days' stay amidst a natural setting and tranquility. Only suggestion would be to make it disable-friendly by making a wheelchair ramp.

Went for a day out with my family. Loved the place. And everything that is party to Nihar on the Ganges. Great hospitality. Yummy food served fresh and hot. Great ambience. Very courteous staff ready to help. The only drawback is the last 300m of the drive. Tricky, but manageable.

Nihar is a hidden gem where we have just spent a lovely day out . We went to Nihar for a family gathering on a day trip and booked a room . It was a wonderful experience thanks to the beautiful ambience , delicious food and the hospitality of the staff there . We were a bit apprehensive since we were travelling with a toddler and a kid but the staff took great care to ensure their comfort . They had prepared separate food for the kids which was a lovely gesture and that too the food was very tasty . The rooms are very nicely done and comfortable too. We are really happy that we chose this place

It was a nice day out at Nihar on the Ganges. The food, staff behaviour needs special mention. Both are good but one area which I felt was lacking was good supervision. The beautiful terrace was very unclean with cigarette butts from last night even at 11:30am next day.

Not worth the price they are charging. We get good resorts with pools to relax in much lower price. The construction is very basic and they decorated the place with cheap show pieces. The walls, floor and all are not up to expectations. They are providing small tokens like bathroom accessories which is good. The garden is too small compared to any resort of same price. The kitchen service is dependent on local fish availabilities and limited.

Very good experience. Beautiful property right on the edge of the Ganges. Serene environment. Very good food. Courteous staff. Music, furniture and every small piece is tastefully chosen. Give it a try if you want a feel of heritage style bunglow. Will be very good for a day out, less than an hour from Central Kolkata. If you want to spend leisurely days you can chose to spend nights as well.

We had an excellent experience at the residence here at Nihar. we stayed at Unit 2. The rooms were great, had all the required facilities, we were hosted very well by the staff. The food is superb and the location is gorgeous. It's a great get away from the hustle bustle of the city. Unit 2 should have had one more ensuite washroom, else everything was perfect! We spent one day and night at the beautiful property and really much enjoyed it. Very friendly and helpful staff. They were super attentive and helpful and very nice. A very good experience thanks to the location and hospitality. Such a beautiful place for personal vacation, right next to the Ganges is a rare find. The sunset by the Ganges was a special experience. The staffs especially Mr Naik and Babloo, service guys made sure to take care of the hospitality and our cook Anup made sure that the food was personalized and home based. A little downside was the mosquito attack in the evening - the owners need to take care of that with pest control. Also, the rooms can be upgraded considering the price they are charging. Overall a good experience and definitely a well worth weekend trip especially if you have a group of family and friends.

We, along with our extended family of twelve, spent a night and a full day at Nihar on the Ganges, and it was a wonderful experience from start to finish. From the moment we arrived we were blown away by the warmth and hospitality of the staff. We had four senior citizens in the group , and the attending staff were really mindful about their comfort . Special shout out to Property manager Mr Biswajit , housekeeping staff Mr Nair & Mr Sultan , they kept on checking on us making sure we are well cared for. Rooms were colossal, we loved the variety of books and board games around the property. There is even a guitar available in the property for the musically gifted ones . This was the first time we were staying in a heritage style bungalow and loved the ambiance. View of the river bank both at night and early morning was magical. Highlight of our trip was finger licking good food as you can see in every review. We requested home style food and we got it under careful supervision of Chef Anup, we never had such tasty Bengali food in any restaurant. Thanks from all of us for taking such excellent care of us.

Had a great experience during our stay of 2 nights at the property. Well maintained and beautiful property located right at the bank of the river. The sunset view is especially lovely. Plenty of outdoor and indoor activities to spend time and relax. The decor was very tasteful giving an old world charm. Hospitality was great- staff were very courteous and made sure all our needs were taken care of. Food was very tasty- we ordered mostly from their set menu. Shoutout to chef Anup and Nair ji. Couple of improvement areas could be expanding the menu a bit further (or coming up with suggestions) and keeping some of the internal staff commotions separate from the guest areas. But the overall stay was great and would totally recommend this place.

Spent 2 nights at this immaculately maintained heritage mansion which is truly steeped in history, specially pertaining to the period of Bengal Renaissance....the Partition and beyond. The mansion is right on the Ganges with a spectacular view of the river and is an oasis of peace and tranquility. The team members at the Nihar on the Ganges go out of the way to make the guests comfortable. Thanks to Mr. Ranjit Nair for taking such good care of the guests and to Chef Anup Das for preparing high quality Bengali, Indian and Continental dishes as per the requirements of the guests. Looking forward to visit the property once again, definitely for the solitude & also for the collection of books, some of which I haven't come across since my childhood!!

Nihar on the Ganges ♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡ A quick getaway On the river banks An age old bungalow, And the music of a bygone charm This beautiful bungalow once belonged to Shri Radhakanta Deb of the famous Sobhabazar lineage. Now redone and reused this place greets and looks after it's guests as its very own. Biswajit Das is a helpful and supportive manager and Mr Ranjit Nayar the supervisor hosts his guests with warmth and care that is truly commendable. Chefs Rozario , Anup ad Bablu whip up delicious meals. If you would like to explore the surrounding areas Devendranath Tagore and Abanindranath Tagore's garden homes were located right across the river Hence a place of historical value All in all a place to surely visit

The Heritage Style Bungalow cum Cafe is a good place for a one time visit. The food and ambience are quite good. Rooms are a bit too overpriced. However, the roads leading to the destination are horrendous. Very narrow roads with multiple turns, extremely dangerous if travelling in a luxury car or a big car (more than 5 seater). Warning for Travel Enthusiasts: If you are planning for travel related discussions, as it is a Travel Cafe...extremely sorry to say, that is not gonna happen. It is just a nornal cafe where they provide a trave menu card sort of with guided packages and their rates. However, nobody is abailable to discuss with you and will ask you to Whatsapp their Business Head for any requirements.

I visited the place in September 2021 with my family (4 persons). We booked Sukh-Sari (unit 2). It has 2 bed rooms and a huge wash and changing rooms. Best part is the view of The Ganges. The lawn and terrace is well maintained. Food was very good. We had the bengali thali at lunch and chinese for dinner. Breakfast is complimentary. All inclusive the total expense for 4 person was around Rs. 12,000. Sharing few pictures of our experience.
