The market is not very large (~200m). Apart from tourists, you can see many local people come here to buy food. The food is fresh and delicious with reasonable price. As it closes in evening, it's recommended to come here for lunch before visiting other attractions like Kokura Castle (walkable distance from the market).

A somewhat “touristy” local market but maintains some of its authentic charm! Seafood and produce were quite fresh but prices could vary enormously! Try out those snacks to get a done taste of local food!

When u are here, try the Oden. So good! Place offers many local food - street food and also dine in (like a small shop). You will find everything pretty interesting and new. Definitely not too touristy, if that’s what u guys are looking for?

Catches on fire too easily. Gets ruined by government who, while promoting it as “Kitakyushu’s Kitchen” force it to be torn down to make a Soviet parking lot with a bland generic market without charm.

Nice little local market street. Have a variety of shops of fresh fish to fresh produce. Even bought one kg of delicious rice. Nice little market where some locals shop.

The food here is very fresh, tasty and cheap. A lot of local will do their daily groceries here. There is one restaurant in the middle, 大学堂. U can order for a bowl of white steam rice here. Then, u can do some "shoppings" along the market to fill up ur bowl of rice with food tht u like. The traditional marinated fish (makerel, sardine, etc.) goes very well with the white rice. In fact, i feel like want to order a second bowl of rice to finish the whole fish. As for the fruit, i bought some japanese big apples. They are sweet and juicy. Take note of some stalls tht sell strawberry at cheaper price. They were already cut into half. I guess there is indication on the packs but well i wouldnt know it cause i dont understd the language. Overall, i recommend tht this market is a must-go place if u had the chance to visit Kitakyushu.

The place was originally established as a place to unload fish from the adjacent Kamitake River in 1910’s. Definitely worth a visit if you are in Kokura area, but know that it is relatively a small place and I was a bit underwhelmed. You can see the back side of the shops well from the south side.

You can take the train from Kokura station to Tanga Market or it's a 15-minute walk. The market opens at 10 AM. The seafood is really fresh and cheap. It's a must place to visit!

Tanga Market in Kokura is a traditional Japanese market which has elements of produce stores, fish vendors and a few selected ready-to-eat meal services of the U.S. The Market also has a few stores which offers hot meals and snacks which are popular with local customers and tourists, and, thus, the wait line can be rather long. There is also a liquor store which sells mainly Japanese wine, Sake, variety of Sake. Food and produce prices in Tanga market's stores are generally lower than similar food and produce items in supermarkets or other stores in Kokura. The market is generally clean and acceptable for the customers and visitors when all the stores are crowded at two side of a narrow street-block.

It is little bit hidden from the main street, but only few steps away and definitely worth to walk through.

There's more fresh produce and fish here than actual cooked food. It's nice if you are a local or an expat staying here and need ingredients to cook. As a traveler looking to explore and find something unique, it might not be a draw. Nonetheless worth a visit if you are in the area. Some of the snacks and food stuff is quite nice.

Great for exploring. Lots of little sidestreets with hidden bars and cafes to explore. Great also for cheap local produce. Many fruit and vegetables stalls selling all kinds. Also butchers and fish mongers. Can find some snack food also. Worth a visit.

You can feel the old market environment here. It is slightly dark in certain area of the alley inside here even during the day but it is safe. There are plenty of fresh food is sell here but a little pricey. The alley is narrow and there is less place to sit to enjoy your food.
