Beautiful hotel, great decor and very safe and clean! Service was excellent. Ann Marie the director of operations was very sweet and super helpful! She sent a text the day before to tell us how excited she was to have us staying over. She provided some great restaurant recommendations and always greeted us with a smile. Highly recommend!

Lovely boutique hotel in downtown Kitchener. Nicely renovated; Spotlessly clean; Very comfortable beds. The Plush bathrobes were a nice touch. Minor logistical issue was quickly managed by the courteous staff. I will recommend this hotel to family and friends.

I had the pleasure of attending the "Tabs and Apps" charity event, and I must say that Andre's dedication and hard work truly stood out. Throughout the evening, he was constantly on the move, ensuring that every guest felt well taken care of. His attention to detail in maintaining the decor added an extra touch of elegance to the event. Andre's commitment to making the event a success was truly commendable, and his efforts made a significant difference in our experience. My group noticed his efforts and wanted to write a nice review to give him credit. Much deserved.

Amazing hotel! The rooms are clean and comfortable, and the whole place is just so thoughtfully and beautifully designed. The hotel staff was also wonderful — Chet (who was working at the front desk when we checked in) really went above and beyond to ensure that we had a comfortable stay. Had an amazing experience and would definitely love to come again the next time we're in the city!

What a wonderful experience!! Stayed there on a wonderful Monday evening. Enjoyed a fantastic cocktail on the second floor in their cocktail bar before heading down to their restaurant for dinner. The cocktail was amazing and the dinner was over the top wonderful. When you go out on a Monday you never know what is open. It was great to see it is not just for hotel guests either. If I lived in the area this place would definitely be one of my locals. The staff was so attentive and helpful. Breakfast was amazing as well. So happy that we found this gem. And will be sharing with all of our friends

Great location, several nearby parking therefore giving 5 stars for the expediency. Staffs are nice and friendly, having quick response for refilling complimentary stuff like bottled water. The room is a bit smaller then expected but still good enough for 2 persons and only one night stay. The gym is not big either, but having essential facilities you need for a quick workout. Will stay here again for my next visit.

I'd like to give this hotel a higher rating. It's right downtown and was perfect for Oktoberfest. The restoration is outstanding, with the classic Exteriors maintained and buttressed by modernised yet simple rooms. The beds were comfortable and everything worked as it should. The restaurants were very good as well, and all the staff were friendly. And yet...the room was advertised as Courtyard facing which it definitely was not. Consequently, it was pretty loud in the morning starting at 0500. We didn't want our room made up but there was no sign to place on the door handle so they did it anyway. There is no hotel parking which is acceptable given the availability around the location but it would be great if the hotel had a deal with one of the local parking lots. Instead it will validate one specific lot's parking ticket which adds - not deducts - $1 on your bill. Then there are the hidden costs like the MAT tax+HST calculated per day, the hefty deposit (still waiting for a refund several days later), and the double ding on the $25 in-room movie (thought we had it for 24 hours) but maybe my math was off...). Appreciate the room at a busy time, but I'm not willing to overlook some of the negatives and will take that into account next time.

EDIT: It's great you acknowledge your staff AND manager did not know AODA laws BUT you still have not refunded me the $75 pet fee which is illegal and no one from Hyatt or Walper has replied to my emails. Staff is friendly and the room was nice but they don't know service dog laws. I was charged a pet fee despite my dog being a service animal. When I tried to dispute this with the hotel and the booking agency I went through both stated 'a dog is a dog' and that I had to be charged this fee. Disappointing as we did this trip to get to know Kitchener more before deciding if we wanted to make the move to this city and this left a sour taste in my mouth.

Went to a concert that was 10 mins walk away. Stayed one night, but would've liked to stay longer. Built in 1800's but updated and beautiful in decoration and architecture. Staff were very friendly and helpful. Bed was clean and comfortable. Only slight criticism would be that some downtown light sneaks through the blackout curtains, but that's really the only critique I could come up with!!

We got married at the Walper and it was a fantastic experience from the moment we started planning. We worked with two different wedding coordinators who were both amazing and worked to bring our vision to life. All of the staff were so friendly and helpful. The food was delicious and the atmosphere was magical for our special day!

Wonderful first stay at the Walper Hotel. The service was above and beyond and the attention to detail in the rooms did not go unnoticed. The decor was beautiful, food was great at the TWH social. The quality was evident in the types of bath products and water provided for guests, they do not cheap out. If I am ever in need of a lovey place to stay again in kw, this would be it. Thank you TWH. :)

Came in for one night as a business trip. Honestly the best hotel in Kitchener! They have great rooms and amazing staff to make you feel welcomed :) compared to other hotels in the area I felt that Walper was the one most worth it. I'll definitely come back!

Room is great and clean. Service is amazing. Historical building with renovated room. Stayed with my dog. Surpassed my expectations! The only thing is downtown Kitchener is a bit ghetto, but it's convenient.

Boutique hotel situated in downtown Kitchener, beautifully renovated in a way that offers all of the modern conveniences while preserving the ambience of the old Walper. In the style of the old, grand hotels many services (barber shop, coffee shop) are available on premises. Accommodating staff and very reasonably priced.

Lovely hotel in the heart of Kitchner. The fact that they were able to update a 120+ year old hotel so successfully and to that level of finish speaks volumes. It's right downtown so parking is limited but thats basically everywhere this age. Our room had 8 windows so was flooded with beautiful light and great views. The food was good at the restaurant in the hotel basement and the staff was all friendly and helpful. We would recommend this property without reservation- the marriage of history and modern convenience make for a unique stay.

Right downtown - a charming hotel! Stopped through not knowing the area at all - lots of restaurants surrounding. The rooms were a nice size, and thoughtfully designed. I appreciated the nice clean bathroom with a modern shower.

The checkin experience was good, the room we had was quite noisy from the loud street (there was a car show in town) and the front desk staff was courteous to switch the room. Next day we were out the whole day returning at night and the room wasn’t made- we informed the front desk staff and they said, it’s only upon request - well we weren’t advised up upon checkin. I didn’t get an apology or acknowledgment which was disappointing. The beds were comfortable though. If you’re spending this kind of money in Kitchener, it might be better to spend the money elsewhere.

This hotel was wonderful. From the customer service at the front desk, to the modern decor through-out the building and our spotless room... We have no complaints. The Walper is in the heart of downtown and is close to everything.

Great central place to stay downtown Kitchener. The room was clean and comfortable. Only knocking one star off because the room description said blackout curtains and the sun came in very strong in the morning. Overall very nice place to stay.

So Incredibly happy with my stay. The rooms were comfortable, clean, and super trendy. The staff was amazingly kind and always took the time to say hi and ask me if there was anything I needed. The breakfast in The Barrister's Lounge (located in the hotel itself) was absolutely delicious and in the evening the drinks at The Local (again located in the hotel itself) were perfect and served in an incredibly beautiful atmosphere. All around great experience and a must-stay if you are ever in the Kitchener area and looking for a hotel. Couldn't be happier!

I worked here as a vendor for a private function. I had an amazing experience working with the staff. Very classy Lokal Lounge on the second floor and the grand piano too :)) The servers and staff take pride in what they do and provide great service.

The hotel is located in the heart of the town. The interior of the hotel is beautiful for photoshoots. They have vallet parking (but no one at the door to get the car). And a payed lot a block away. The entrance is located right after the signal, so stopping your car in flowing traffic creates a jam. My sister's room wasn't ready, so they gave her a temporary room. In an hour or so, the room was ready for her. But as she was getting ready, it was taking her some time to dress up & move stuff out. The hotel started bothering her to switch rooms, and then they auto locked the room! Fortunately, we were out of the room, or else we might have gotten locked.

This place is outstanding and beautiful. The service is incredible - they welcomed me super pleasantly and they give you a number you can text for anything. I didn’t expect to use it much but our mini fridge was leaking a bit of water from ice melting, so I texted. Within 5 min there was a maintenance person helping diagnose the issue, turn up the cooling, and clean the water up - what I didn’t expect though was him to also proactively bring an entirely new fridge to replace it just a mere 5 more min later. From the time I texted to me getting a brand new fridge was 10 min, insane. Would stay here again for sure.

We celebrated my daughter's wedding at the Walper and it was a most wonderful event. The Walper team was fabulous! The setting was so romantic. Everyone was professional, welcoming, helpful and so happy to ensure everyone had a great time! We will always have happy memories of the celebration thanks to their efforts!

Updated rooms with lovely towels and wonderful bedding. Great coffee maker. Glad there are no more little bottles of shampoo etc. going into our landfills but rather, wall mounted dispensers. Walls are a tad thin though, neighbours were going at it until after midnight. I've tried other places in Kitchener but always return to the Walper. A little more money, but with it for the location, cleanliness and added bonus, no hockey brats running around screaming.

Our second stay at this lovely unique hotel in downtown Kitchener. The rooms are immaculate, clean, and so comfortable. The staff is warm and friendly. The price point is perfect, and make sure you take advantage of the optional extra of breakfast! Delicious.

The Walper Hotel is great. Rooms and hotel staff = 5 out of 5. However, we dined at TWH Social as part of our Sunday brunch, the staff at this restaurant is a let down. We were here last November 26th around 12 pm. As we got sat down, she asked us if we wanted sparkling or spring water. We asked for sparkling water. When the water arrived in an opened bottle which is not sparkling at all which we thought "Oh, this must be the restaurant's water and the sparkling water might arrive later". The food arrived, it was great. We asked for hot sauce but we never got anything (our server was just at the the bar - we thought they asked someone from the kitchen but 5 minutes passed still no hot sauce) so we got up and went to the bar and asked for their Tabasco sauce instead since we liked our eggs with hot sauce. When we got up, we thought we can just head out since the breakfast is part of our hotel stay. We were surprised when we needed to sign a $9 charge for our WATER which shocked us since the sparkling water did not arrive and apparently they served us the spring water which we did not ask for at all. We didn't bother fighting it since the night before it was our wedding and we were exhausted and just wanted to eat and go. There was also no coffee refills. Overall, food was good but the staff could be trained more.

The Walper Hotel in downtown Kitchener combines history and modern comfort. The rooms are cozy and stylish with personality. Attentive staff provide a warm welcome. Its central location makes it a convenient choice for exploring Kitchener. Request a higher floor to avoid hearing activity on street level at night. A delightful stay blending charm and convenience.

Always quiet (no hockey brats) and clean. Great front desk staff. Love the towels and linens. Fast elevators. Environmentally friendly; no more little bottles of shampoo, etc.

  • 1/5 Ashley M. 2 years ago on Google
To start off, the hotel seemed beautiful and spacious online. The front desk staff were nice as we were checking in. Once getting to our room we noticed a few things that were off. The room was much smaller than what was shown online and the room was clean for the most part. The door made loud squeeks and the toilet couldn't flush solids. The maintenance staff were excellent at fixing the problem promptly. Now the reason for the one star is because the room was not sound proof by any means. There was a wedding that was happening on the second floor that you could clearly hear the bass and lyrics to. In the washroom it felt like you were in the banquet room with them. Also, we were placed on the same floor as the wedding party that by the time the wedding ended they all filtered through the hall slamming doors, running through the halls, and knocking on doors that weren't their room. Not to mention we heard the staff moving tables around once that wedding had filed out. Better planning should have been done to divide the wedding guests away from the guests visiting. It's the worst stay I've ever had at a hotel. Do not recommend if you are going here for leisure or a quiet getaway. You will hear every bang, cell phone ring and conversation your neighbours are having.

  • 2/5 Phil T. 2 years ago on Google
After checking in we had no hot water. Front desk told us to "run the sink and shower for at least five minutes". The door to our bathroom also didn't close. Our room looked alright, but the water thing is really unacceptable from both an environmental aspect, as well as guest experience. Install some circulator pumps on your hot water lines. Save water and provide a better experience.

Our wedding at the Walper was nothing short of incredible! We received compliments from our guests all night about how gorgeous the hotel and event spaces were. Due to COVID, we were delayed from our original date of January 2022 to November 2022. The Walper made this stressful delay so easy, and seamlessly transitioned our details to the new date. We started out working with Andrea (who was fabulous), then Katie in the months leading up to the event. Katie was incredibly accommodating, detail-oriented, and friendly. The event and banquet staff were diligent and helpful, and the food was incredible! Even better than our tasting. I also wanted to mention how easy and fun it was to have most of our guests staying in the hotel itself - it’s so great to all be in one space, and everyone loved their unique rooms. Thank you so much to the whole Walper team for a phenomenal day!

Last week I was in Kitchener for business and chose the Walper for my stay, and they did not disappoint! The rooms were clean and stylish, the beds were comfy, and the rain showers were lovely. However the real winning element was the staff, particularly the evening front desk staff members who worked last week. They were so friendly and went above and beyond to make sure I had a great stay. Special thank you to Shilpa who checked me in and was so kind and helpful!

Our stay at The Walper was absolutely fantastic. I can not say enough good things about this place. Everyone was incredibly welcoming and all went above and beyond to make our stay special. The place is a gem located so close to some wonderful places and parks. I just cant stress enough how thankful I am to have chosen to stay here. Thank you so much to all at the Walper with a special thanks to Remai!

Stayed Sunday to Friday for a business trip. Hotel is very nice and in a good location in the centre of Kitchener South. close to CRT and Victoria park and several restaurants and bars. Room was spacious and very comfortable. Staff were friendly and welcoming. Not giving 5 stars because of small service problems. It seems room servicing is not automatic every day, so coffee and cups were not replenished when returned on the Monday. Tuesday morning I asked for fresh coffee and cups but they did not appear so when returned Tuesday I had to ask again. On the Thursday the shower gel had run out so I asked for it to be refreshed when going out in the morning, unfortunately when returning in the evening it had not been done. A shame for such a lovely hotel to be let down by little things. But I would stay there again.

Great looking hotel in the centre of Kitchener. The front desk staff were always lovely lots of smiles, bed was comfy, and the hotel & rooms were beautifully decorated. However, there was only decaf coffee in the rooms, the toilet seat was broken, and the shower only put out cold water 2/3 times I used it.

Wonderful experience here. I used one of the suites as my getting ready room for my wedding. Then after the wedding my husband and I spent a few days there. Very lovely. Hotel. Looks old and vintage on the outside but very modern on the inside. Wonderful service. Very friendly staff. Highly recommend if you are looking for somewhere in the downtown core. Lots of really nice restaurants nearby.

I’m a wedding planner and a coordinator at CF Designs Inc. I had a great experience working with the staff at the Walper hotel few weeks ago. Everyone there was super helpful and very respectful. From the management to the kitchen staff everyone was on alert and actually listened to my directions. Not to forget the Chef at the time had done his magical touch and the food was amazing! I had a wonderful time working there and will absolutely recommend this venue to my future clients. Claudette Wedding planner/coordinator CF Designs Inc.

Room was spacious clean and comfortable with an amazing shower head. The staff were very friendly. We opted for the all inclusive breakfast, don’t bother with this, it’s not worth it, 5 small menu items and restricted to 1 beverage. We waited so long in a not busy restaurant watching the servers assist other patrons and we were completely ignored, so we left and requested a refund on our included breakfast. Apart from that it wasn’t bad, a bit pricy for Kitchener but is a vitiate hotel after all.

Walper Hotel was just excellent! This boutique hotel is beautiful inside and out. Perfectly located for shopping and day trips - like St. Jabobs Market. The front staff are welcoming and very accommodating. Always a smile and ready to help. The rooms are clean, inviting and the air conditioning is awesome. The restaurants at this hotel are great. You will not be disappointed!

Really enjoyed our stay at this historic beautiful renovated hotel. The general manager Laura went out of her way to find us a suitable room for two nights. The hotel and rooms are designed well and the eggs Benedict I had the following morning was one of the best I’ve had. Facilities look great for an event for those interested. Thank you again Laura and team for making our stay enjoyable. We will be back when we are in the areas again.

This is a fantastic hotel in an awesome small Canadian City. I've stayed here multiple times over the year and its still as great as it was when it originally opened its door a short few years ago. Within walking distance from some great restaurants (including its own TWH Social, which is amazing as well) for every person's tastes. The staff here are fantastic as well. Always willing to help and will even deliver a bucket of ice to your room if requested. Such a great place!

Rooms were nice and clean and the staff were very friendly and accommodating. We spent 12 nights with them over three weeks, and all our requests were met. When they saw we had a pet, they dropped off dog bowls and a bed to the room - a cute touch. The only issue with this hotel is that, as it is in the heart of downtown, the parking situation is very challenging. Will stay here again!

Cute, boutique, heritage hotel in downtown Waterloo; recently updated, lovely, unique decor all around and in the room; lots of great little places to sit throughout. The room had neat accents from the hand soap, shampoo bottles, coffee maker and decor within. Service was exceptional. Jennifer (catering and business) was so helpful to curate a lovely event. Food - delicious including the salads, charcuterie board, and freshly made protein balls for snack. Definitely would stay again: business or personal travel.

Highly recommend the Walper—located in downtown Kitchener and an easy walk to restaurants, shopping. Staff are very friendly and helpful. The rooms are all unique, some larger than others, some a bit noisy if facing street. The beds and bedding are exceptionally comfortable and I had an amazing sleep as a result. Cute breakfast area with good food. The only issue is parking (hotel doesn’t have more than a few spaces) so you will have to find a public lot nearby.

The rooms and the hotel are unique, clean, and just so cozy. The staff always go out of their way to make sure your experience is 5 star. Everyone is so friendly and personable. The rooms will be on the smaller side but decorated beautifully and are so clean. Also the eggs Benedict is by far the best I've had outside of home made. All of the food at TWH is incredible.

Not the most hospitable stay I’ve had at a hotel. I use to work here in housekeeping(2017,) and was really excited to share the beauty of this hotel with my partner. Was not greeted or treated with very much respect given our younger age, I assume. Overall, the energy was off and we won’t be back. Very uncomfortable interaction with front desk.

Super great stay. Only downside is my wife is a light sleeper and we were in a room above the street and cars going by kept waking her. However the bed is comfortable and the ballroom is a lovely venue for an event.

The hotel room is nice but the noise from this giant AC duct right outside of our room is really a disappointment. During the day, you wouldn’t notice the sound as much but during the night it was so loud that I couldn’t fall asleep. I had to use my AirPod for noise cancellation so I could finally fall asleep. If you are to stay at the Walper, make sure you ask for a room that is not adjacent to this giant pipe.

The Walper Hotel is perfect for anyone visiting Kitchener. It is perfectly situated in downtown Kitchener within walking distance of all the food and sights anyone might be seeking. The rooms are beautifully designed and very spacious and the staff (particularly Marcelo and Karan) are attentive and accommodating.
