Cradle of human kind in Maropeng... it's free guys. Take your family, go as a couple or with friends. Entrance, parking free. To see your ancestors free. You pay to get on a boat and see other parts of our history...very affordable. Honestly it's worthit. We had a great time.

A very informative and interesting experience. I also enjoyed the boat ride through the caves. A great place to come with family and just learn about evolution.

Being here, you can imagine how it was a 1000 years ago. Go for a hike on many of the farms that allow this and experience the peace and quiet, beautiful rock formations and wildlife

This was an interesting place, but we went with the tour and the boat ride was kind of weird. They didn’t tell you what it is that you were doing it was just a ride. After they tell you it has to do with the elements of fire water earth. There is a lot of information about evolution after you get off the ride, but there’s not much else to it.

This place was great. The museum was the best experience ever! You can tell that the creators took time to design this place, it was simply the best. The tour guide was so amazing and the guy is super knowledgeable and I’d actually do it again.

One of the best exploring experiences ever, searching for Mrs Pless and Little Foot :). Who knows what else you could discover there? Very friendly guide and full of knowledge.

One of my favourite places to visit in South Africa. When buying tickets on webticket you’ll note that it says maropeng plus caves, it’s actually not maropeng plus caves. Each is a separate ticket and just leave a 3 hour gap if you enjoy reading as it will take long. Also note that the caves are 10km from the museum.

Most beautiful peaceful surroundings for a short hike and you get to view wild animals just being with nature and be able to breath without being in the city with a mask on everywhere you go not to mention every store you walk in you have they spray you with the cheap sanitizers for your hands which is full of alcohol and making your hands dry.

interesting place for grown ups as well for children. Education for all ages how it all began. The environment around the museum is as well pretty and invites you for having a trip around. I recommend this before the weekend starts to avoid to many people.

Stopped here for an hour. Definitely worth it. Cheap to enter. Self-guided at your own pace. Plenty of information about the origins of humankind. There is a fun 3-minute boat ride inside with weather effects but not much else to see during it. There are interactive and moving exhibits near the end. Can take a stroller inside (except have to park it for the boat ride). I would suggest combining this with something else nearby like the rhino and lion park

The Cradle of Humankind, located in South Africa, is a UNESCO World Heritage site known for its rich fossil record, dating back millions of years. It's a treasure trove of early hominid remains, providing crucial insights into human evolution. The Sterkfontein Caves, part of this area, have yielded significant discoveries, including the famous "Mrs. Ples" and "Little Foot" fossils. This region plays a pivotal role in understanding the origins of humanity, showcasing the interconnectedness of life and our shared evolutionary history.

They did a great job putting this together. Although there are so many holes to the theory of evolution, they had lots of fun interactive exhibits. The cafe was good also and my mom loved the coffee. They had nice shops, clean bathrooms and my favorite was the underground water ride!!!!!! Will visit again.

the tour was fantastic. highly recommended for locals and visitors. the site recommends buying the tickets and reserving a time slot, but it didn't seem necessary during the time we went. there wasn't a very large crowd that day, so that may have contributed to the speedy entry and ease of access. the site guide was incredibly knowledgable of the history of mankind. go if you can.

Disappointed that nothing has been maintained or upgraded since I was last there about 5 years ago. The space tunnel does not work anymore The ice in die river tunnel is so thin that you can see the wire inside. The TV's and voice phones don't work anymore The dolls have been broken , teeth don't work, light bulbs are out half of the moving parts don't move anymore. The only think maintained and that looks nice is the lawn cut and looked after outside.

A little disappointed that we paid for a 2 hour guided tour only to have the guide with us for about 45 minutes. Most of the tour was going through the museum and having to learn on our own (the point of a guided tour is to be guided through the exhibit). Some of the information in the exhibition is outdated and it would have been nice to know what is currently happening in the field of paleoanthropology. It would've been nice to also ask a guide, but there wasn't one. Other than that, I do believe that this tour is fun and educational. Just be prepared to do a lot of reading! The staff are friendly and the facilities are well looked after.

  • 4/5 Starlight Animations - O. 2 years ago on Google
The place is lovely, but 2 issues; we tried going a week earlier, but got lost over and over. There are boards along the way to show the place, but not the direction or distance, and we struggled with Google maps too. Second issue was that once we found the place, turns out tickets have to be bought online. Upside though, we told the staff when we got there, they were very helpful and allowed us to use the wifi and we could join the next available slot. The visit was fun, place is great and the staff very friendly and knowledgeable.

Learn more about the evolution of humankind here in the cradle of humanity. A beautiful location and museum. Take the guided tour. Be surprised by the underground boat ride. Leave at least 3 hours for this museum to do it justice. Presently on open weekends.

The historical significance is what urges me to give the 4 stars. I do think that our tour guide could have made it feel more like a tour for us and not leaving us to our own devices. That should come after the tour.

this place is very interesting , they have rides and kiosks that explain every thing to you. this is a very nice place to take your kids for educational purposes or even to keep them busy but you will find that it fascinates you in the proses of how much detail went into the making of this place i would defiantly recommend this place to any one

I would recommend this place to everyone both children and adults alike, very fun and informative, and the stuff are friendly and well informed in regards to the tour and exhibitions, my personal favorite would be the water ride depicting the four elements as it was implemented in an brilliant way. The building is very clean and you can purchase photos at their kiosk which is a bit pricey but very worth it. 100/10 worth the visit

A bit of a anticlímax , we stayed at the Cradle Boutique Hotel , looked forward to spend 3 nights . We spent one night and unfortunately had to go home which was only 35minutes away . But we were promised vouchers for 2 nights that we had paid for a future date but they have not been forthcoming. Quite disappointing. The hotel needs to upgrade to attract 3/4 star visitors.
