A 3 minutes drive from the popular Big Buddha temple peninsula, the Plai Laem temple could look like a big cake birthday for the a lay person, but for the ones who know, it is a very sacred place. Beautiful at sunrise (around 6.00am). A Must to do on Samui. The lake is plenty of big, very big catfishes that you can feed (10 bahts) for a quarter of a bucket, then you can make a wish that get good chance to be fulfilled.

Incredible experience, simply stunning. I visited at sunset and was met with a perfect time for photography and a cooler less busy time. I did visit in October (off season) so expect busier times between Jan - April. Dress modestly and always be respectful.

Spectacular group of temples situated on a lake in central Samui, well worth a visit. Some huge fish in the lake which you can feed for 10 baht. Recommended.

You might miss this temple complex if you only stay on the main road, but it is definitely worth finding. I would recommend coming here on a sunny day, if you had a choice, because they use those ultra bright and reflective colors all over, and it really pops in the sunlight! I didn't get pictures of the large coy fish in the lake because none of my shots turned out, but they are pretty cool. We were so distracted by the features of this large facility that we forgot to go in to the main temple. There are a lot of nice places to rest in the shade under trees here, in case you start to get tired. I highly recommend this stop. Less Snakes than some of the other places that we have visited today, for sure. More dragon aspects and bird aspects. Also, they have both male and female Buddha here, and the scale is simply massive. The light of day was not in my favor to get good shots however. Highly recommend. We also recommend making a small donation while you are here, as you should to most temples visited.

Beautiful temple, learnt so much from our guide. Well worth a visit, ladies cover your shoulders, although they do supply a cover up. Very peaceful and some amazing carp in the lake.

Spent a little time here while in Koh Samui. Lovely temple and architecture. It’s really is worth a visit. The temple is in quite a large area with a number of buildings. Very colourful. There are toilets on site and small stalls for drinks and food.

Very interesting temple that combines multiple cultural sects of Buddhism in one place. The huge fish you can feed in the pond are a bonus.

Our 'Top Temple' pick on Samui... Wat Plai Laem is just a short walk or drive from the Big Buddha temple and we really enjoyed our visit here. The statues of an 18-arm Guan Yin (Goddess of Compassion & Mercy) and the Laughing Buddha are on separate piers lodged within the serene temple lake. There is no entrance fee and you can buy food to feed the fish. A great stop recommended for all ages on your visit to Koh Samui.

Beautiful picturesque temple with a few different areas to see, be sure to feed the fish and turtles! The feed can be bought there for 10 baht. Coffee shop also on site. This has been my favourite temple so far in Thailand and you can spend over half an hour walking round to take it all in

Very picturesque and calm - beautiful on a nice day. Many things to see including the cuddliest cat, fish and many chickens/roosters/baby chicks. The temples/statues are on the water which is a nice touch.

Lovely place with many beautiful statues and a lake. Many tourists unfortunately disregarding the rules about polite dress and no shoes in the temple area which was a shame as they even had shalls on offer for free for people to wear. I had a nice meditation there and there were many different temples and areas to explore. Lovely place, might be better to go early morning when there's less tourists.

Pretty large Temple, nicely built, surrounded by water. Kids can buy a good amount of food to feed the fish in the pond. Chickens are there too :) the temple itself is pretty large. Would recommend it totally if you want to see a Buddhist temple.

It's a Lord budhha temple near the ocean and has a beautiful view. You can see the history of lord Budhha here. But the biggest negative point is everything written here is in the thai language.

Cool place to visit, Lots of HUGE fish, and you’re able to buy fish food to feed them - The place is well maintained but would advise giving a small donation to help them keep it up. Worth the visit as the statues are impressive.

I enjoyed the place especially there’s so much to see and visit. Please remember to be considerate and respectful especially women and don’t visit wearing short clothing or too revealing tops…temples are a place for prayer 🙏🏻 I recommend visiting at sunset, the place is not crowded

Place with nice views, no entry fees. But suggest to visit in early morning hours or evenings to capture sunsets because during the day time it is too hot and sunny and there is no much shade. There is an option to buy food for fish and feed them in the lake inside the temple.

  • 5/5 Dmitri L. 4 months ago on Google
Free entrance. Good atmosphere inside, you can chill, you can pray or talk with Buddha. Or just walk around. You can buy fish or cat food for 10 bat and feed some animals in the complex.

Beautiful temples with multiple Buddha's and excellent harmony with the Hindu gods and Mahayana as well. It is all floating on a lake so it adds to the beauty and peacefulness

Big and many statues. there are cats living there, which is nice. Not perfectly cleaned up and the paint was very worn in some places.

According to Wikipedia The temple's design incorporates elements of Chinese and Thai traditions and was in part designed by distinguished Thai artist Jarit Phumdonming. Its main statue, which is in Chinese style, is not of Gautama Buddha. It is a form of the bodhisattva of compassion and mercy, Avalokiteśvara, called Cundi. This form of the deity is known in Chinese as "Guanyin with eighteen arms". The grounds are a good visit to admire the artwork of the Thai people and you can see the influence of the Thai and Chinese traditions mixed. Restoration was apparently a while back but buildings look newly painted. Peaceful grounds

Big!! Busy! Probably because of the season, Songkran (currently) in full swing.. this is a megaplex of temples, ponds, statues, and parking areas. History, graveyard (for cremains) , patrons, devotees all represented in some way or other... You can even feed the fish. Various aspects of various religions represented on these grounds.. so wondering around you might find anything from Hindu to Buddhist sites and in between as well. Worth of a visit... It is colourful, typically flamboyant and unlike other temples if you do feel kinda templed out... Combine with a visit to the Big Buddha of Koh Samui not too far away. (A 15 minute walk actually)

These temples are all near each other. The Goddess of Guanyin, Laughing Buddha and Wat Plai Leam are within 1-2 minutes walk. Impressive statues/ figures and beautifully constructed, well worth the trip to see these places and others if you book a tour that includes it. Also noticeable were some Hindu God statues. It would be nice for more shops to be near by as it's a popular tourist destination. Pleased that I got to do it!

This is definitely a place to visit. It is completely free. Just wear conservative clothing. Also, you can feed the fat fish around the food costs. 10baht better bring coins as the machine only accepts coins. Highly recommended 👌

This is a temple using a mix of Chinese/Thai Buddhist art. It’s a smaller campus and easy to tour. It’s free and they only ask that you consider a donation (girls make sure to cover your shoulders and knees.)

Amazing attraction on the northwestern tip of Samui with a wide variety of Buddhist monuments nestled within a scenic lake. Free entry however donations are highly appreciated. While the temples itself seems to be kept in good conditions, the area in general is very dirty from the countless stray dogs and birds in the area giving the impression that the place is not that well kept. The water-based monuments are facing west and are therefore the best lit in the afternoon or just before sunset.

A great stop in if you are touring the local temples. Unbelievable architecture with such delicate design and very well kept. Each temple has its own very special feel. You would need to have 30-45 minutes spare to take in all this site has to offer. Dress code does apply, no short skirts or shorts and no showing of the shoulders. No entry fee and and wait to get in, you can just stroll around at your own leisure. Thousands of fish in the ponds that you can feed to stir up a huge feeding frenzy! Totally worth a visit to add to your list.

This is really worth your time to visit. We spent about thirty minutes here on a beautiful sunny day and could have spent more time. The architecture and sculptures are amazing.

Not the prettiest temple in Thailand, but a nice religious place of worship. Since it was literally 300m from our place, we visited the complex. Compared to the temples on the mainland this one comes across a bit like a theme park. Many of the tourists that visited did not respect the dresscode. Please do so when you are planning to visit cultural spots in Thailand!

I came here as it was about to pour down rain, found shelter and enjoyed the mini storm. The sculptures are beautiful and the carp in the pond are almost as big as the big smiling Buddha himself!

Such a beautiful place ,specially around sun set , the golden hour just change the scenery. Kids can get fish food for 10 B and that would keep ‘‘em busy and that memorable experience is worth coming back for sure

Another beautiful temple; this time it was built on the water. Make sure to wear appropriate clothing. There is car and motorcycle parking.

This is a really cool place to visit, there are three statues located here, which are beautiful. You can feed the fishes for 10 baht and they are pretty big fishes

Wat Plai Laem is an active Buddhist temple compound where you can find an 18-armed image of Guanyin, the Goddess of Mercy and Compassion, as well as a typically Chinese-Thai smiling Buddha statue. Like a lot of local people do, you can buy some dry food and feed the many catfish in the waters surrounding the temples. Definitely worth a visit.
