Bangkok Samui Hospital

Hospital

😠 This hospital is just trying to take as much insurance money from tourists as possible. We wanted to get an ultrasound scan seeing as I’m 20 weeks pregnant. We got one in Chiang Mai from a very good OBGYN. The doctor’s consult was 300 baht and the scan and health check about 500 baht. This hospital... People often mention hospital, insurance, staff, doctor, good, Samui, Hospital, great, money, charge,

This hospital is just trying to take as much insurance money from tourists as possible. We wanted to get an ultrasound scan seeing as I’m 20 weeks pregnant. We got one in Chiang Mai from a very good OBGYN. The doctor’s consult was 300 baht and the scan and health check about 500 baht. This hospital wanted 4000(!) baht just to let us see the doctor who would have to order the scan, and they wouldn’t even tell us the price of the scan. We have all the paperwork from our other doctor’s appointments so basically they tried to charge us an exhorbitant amount of money just for booking a scan. A scan that they wouldn’t tell us the price of. It felt very shady, and we left immediately. We will find a proper hospital on the mainland.

08 Dec 2023. We’ve just completed a visit to the hospital. With my partner we skidded on the scooter and he was limping. We were impressed: 10:45 arrival. Greeting by lovely ladies at the front desk. Fill out forms, we were presented with the cost of hospital visit and everything was transparent. 11:00 a nurse reviewed his vitals, blood pressure, medical history etc 11:10 a trauma specialist looked at him 11:30 X-ray 11:40 the specialist referred him to physiotherapist 12:00 pay and release. I have only superlatives: all staff spoke great English, very kind, very efficient. He was released with a bag of pain killers and voltearen and wishes for a quick recovery. Ps. Of course I don’t have pictures.

Dont go to this prison. I was accidentally involved in a accident in Samui. A driver had minor scratches and was sent here. I contacted the injured person who just wanted to leave the hospital as she was fine,(same day) but the person had to stay even know my insurance gave a cover letter to release the patient(which i demanded and did everything i could to get). She wanted to leave the same day yet due to the hospital she had to stay 4 nights because of paper work. Hospital collecting more money for each day, I'm sure this was due to both the hospital and insurance wanting more money. It cost me nothing more because I had insurance I just wanted to get the poor girl out of that prison. Disgusting management and staff. The ward is secured by locked doors and nurse and security have to let people in and out. Drive safe people.

If you know what you want and don't mind paying big money this is a great hospital BUT if you have any questions at all it's completely pointless going there. I have been there many times, it's always the same- doctors, nurses facilities etc are all excellent but the women at the information desk ALL need to be fired and replaced with people who can at least answer simple questions about facilities and prices. They just try to get money off you from the second you arrive without even knowing what is wrong with you. Even if you want the most basic of information you need to see the doctor- which costs 3000 baht!! As suggested in other reviews they also try to get you to do extra tests you don't need because you pay for everything. It's all about money in this hospital from the second you walk in the door. That said, if you actually pay and deal with the professional ls inside it is a good hospital

I Had a severe cough with a mild fever on the first day in Samui, and I went directly to Bangkok Samui Hospital for a check-up. The registration process was easy and quick. I went to the insurance department, which contacted my local insurance provider (Allianz). After, The doctor, Nat Chawanid, listened to me carefully to know the symptoms, did some exams, and asked for tests (COVID and influenza) and an x-ray. The nurses were super friendly and welcoming and were very careful and cheerful. The hospital is super clean and hygienic. And everything, including the doctor's long meds list, was covered by insurance. The entire process took 1 hour, so everything was quick and professional. I highly recommend this hospital in Samui for all tourists.

My husband was referred from Phangan hospital to see the general surgeon at BKK Samui hospital. We came across on speed boat and got picked up at the pier by the hospital van, free of charge. Meeting the surgeon was speedy and he advised that my husband be admitted as inpatient for treatments. The admission and insurance process were surprisingly slow for private hospital.. We received the estimate for 1 night accommodation and medication for 40k (Baht), very pricey as expected. He ended up staying 2 nights and a small surgery, the cost shot up to over 80k, but with discount, we paid 73K, still far exceeding the estimate. We requested a van to take us to the pier after discharge, and we’re ticked off that the 15 min ride to the pier will be additional 1,000 baht. What a rib off! We took a taxi instead and paid 300 baht. Overall, we were not impressed with the quality of service! It is nowhere near other private hospitals we have been to.

Never been scammed so hard in my life had to pay 14000 bath for a quick dokter visit and blood test. Ridiculous prices. Also they make you do test that you don’t need and then charge you insane amount of money

Pricy but good for tourist. English speaking staff. Nice modern building. Got too much ear wax blocking hearing, friendly doctor claim the suction cleaning equipment is over 1 million Baht. After cleaning the whole ear, regain hearing 100%. Cost 4000 Baht, kinda high, but regain hearing is most important

Looks beautiful, but they charge a lot!! We had a doctor just look inside my wife’s ears and say “they look great. There’s no infection or problems.” They charged us 3200 baht for this....

Stuff in stationary do not speak English and you will be treated not in the nice way for the price of more than 1,000 euro per night staying in this Hospital. Modern equipment and good interieur will not help if your stuff is not friendly and not committed.

Firstly, I loved Bangkok Hospital in Bangkok and Phuket. Very professional. But in Samui it's VERY different. I asked locals and they confirmed this and say it's because it's run by a different owner/company. - They charge 2x to 3x to foreigners what local Thai pay for the same services - The quality of services is VERY low: for testing they used an unwrapped needle to take blood (!), they said test results come back within 2 days but it took 10 days and half the test results were missing - The phone service is bad and they don't speak English properly as they do in Bangkok Hospital in Bangkok/Phuket

See the doctor for 5mins, wait 1 hour for the bill. Terrible administration issues with the hospital. Feel sorry for the staff. No one happy have to wait so long. Hospital needs to get their software updated to manage efficient billing.

I honestly received the best service here. I felt so looked after and I felt like the doctor actually cared. It was on the pricey side so thank goodness for health insurance. However it was so clean and the staff were professional and it makes you feel at as much ease as possible when sick abroad

We found this hospital to be incredible with our teen son who was in a jet ski accident whilst on our holiday. Whilst the hospital is not the cheapest (they are a private hospital), they are incredibly professional, took wonderful care of us and made the process of dealing with an injury in a foreign country as easy as possible. The quality of the care and facilities (especially given that this is an island, and not a major capital city), is excellent. We had our travel insurance in order and had to provide evidence of this and our passports immediately upon arrival. I really couldn't fault our experience with them and wish to thank them for taking care of our son.

OVERPRIZED for what they offer. Beds are separated with a curtain. Not nice. We paid over 500€ for 3h and medication. Dr was clear and easy to understand.

During my week at the hospital battling dengue fever, I was genuinely touched by the entire team's kindness. The nurses, with their multiple check-ins, made me feel genuinely cared for, and the doctor's twice-daily visits provided a sense of assurance. The daily room maintenance, new linens, and the hospital's modern atmosphere created a comforting environment that contributed to my recovery. I am grateful for the exceptional care that made a challenging time more bearable.

Very, very good hospital care. I've seen several of the departments here, specialists.. imaging, surgeries, etc. I've also been hospitalized here for inpatient procedures. I've always been advised of the pricing before any visit or procedure. With an insurance company that approves... BSH is exceptional. Staff always super cool, from reception to doctors. Very few if any payment issues over many visits.. lots of specialist availability and variety. Feels weird to be reviewing a hospital but BSH has saved my a$$ overall (and occasionally literally). Value for services is high. Prices are also high.. but I've never been surprised with a bill. High quality private hospital 👌👌

On a recent trip to Thailand I was hit with a Covid infection. Was seen to by Dr. Than of Bangkok Samui Hospital. Very effective and caring treatment was provided, follow-up as to my condition ,and eventually full recovery just as I was having to fly back to Denmark. Can only highly recommend Dr. Than, I have never in my 40 years + of travelling worldwide received such good care and attention with respect to a medical condition, it was my lucky star that I was in Samui when treatment was needed and I got to see Dr. Than. I will venture to say, that if all doctors in the world showed same attention and discipline with respect to patients we would be in a very good place. Steen Clausen Næstved Denmark

I’m 18 and had a motorcycle accident, I was in and out of many different hospitals, with stitches, infections, wound cleanings etc. If you are in Samui or nearby it please visit this hospital, by far the best out of any hospitals I visited. Obviously it is more expensive than the public ones however if you have insurance or a decent amount of money it is definitely worth it. All the staff speak English, which is great when you’re nervous, young and on your own (especially if you have needle phobias etc 😂.) I don’t usually leave reviews for anywhere but I felt obliged to after the great service, and kind staff. They were also more thorough than any other hospital, in that they prevented and spotted an infection that another hospital hadn’t. So if you have any type of injury (specifically a motorcycle crash) I highly recommend it. Huge thanks to the doctors, nurses and wound dressing team!

**Tourists Beware** Typical unscrupulous Thai operation- will scam as much money out of tourists as possible. Quoted 3000 baht and phone and ended up paying 4,700 baht. Took my son for a second rabies jab. Terrible attitude of staff at Registration (receptionist and nurse) to the point where they were frightening my son. Very poor customer service and hostile to tourists… I am an expat retiree living in Thailand and the private hospitals have been excellent.... However Bangkok Hospital in Koh Samui is the worst I have experienced as an expat living in Thailand Very bad experience all round. Please train your staff to smile and be pleasant to paying patients, particularly before scamming them!!!!!

Such a great experience! Super fast to check in, be seen, and get meds all in the same place, took less than an hour from start to finish. Everyone was kind and helpful, spoke English (made it so easy for me as a foreigner just here for a few days), and I couldn't have hoped for anything better.

My boyfriend was treated here with Dengue. We arrived in the emergency room and didn't have to wait too long. They tested a few things and the results came back positive for Dengue. Staff was friendly and explained as best as they could. He was admitted to a room and got infusions. He was checked on regularly and his sheets were changed frequently. Staff really was just a "buzz" away. Our daughter and I could stay in the same room and everyone was really kind to us. The food was good and lots of street food close by. Also 7-eleven just across the street. Sometimes communication was hard because not everyone speaks fluently. All in all really a great hospital and we are so grateful for everything. Keep up the good work.

I had to go to this hospital and I could say I am impressed of how it works. It is settled great and everything has it's sequence, from insurance email to lastly giving of the medicine. So I am happy with it. It is a bit expensive, but the insurance company will cover it, they didnt make me pay anything. I recommend if you have to go to a hospital in Ko Samui, go to this one

TERRIBLE SERVICE. My 3 year old was given 4 stitches, nurses and doctors were not gentle with him at all! Thereafter, nurses applied a waterproof plaster badly and I asked for an extra dressing and they insisted on charging me extra money for something they messed up. For a 15 mins visit it was also over 12,000thb and they want to charge me more for an extra dressing that their own nurses messed up. Do not come here!

Expensive but fine if you have insurance. Staff are helpful and diligent. Nurses and doctors who assisted me provided an excellent service. Special thank you to Am (wound care nurse and her team) Khun Jenny in insurance department and Khun Mai at reception. 🙏🏼

Went for a check up on my ear. the place had very nice staff that helped us understand what to fill and where to go, the doctor was so nice and answerd all of my quetions plus the place was very clean. Only negetive was that it was expensive but if you have insurance then it's not a problem

I had a motor bike crash accident in 2018. Thankfully to my Insurance, got sent to this Hospital. It was super expensive, however I had a complicated surgery on my leg and all went well. Staff was nice. And the Hospital looks more like a Hotel. I will be forever thankfull and gratefull for what they did!

Treated very well did an initial exam and an ultrasound to check for DVT but was all clear. Cost me £200 but was worth finding out. Excellent service, very clean, no wait, presented cost before procedure and staff were very polite.

Really amazing hospital, the bad reviews are totally unjustified. The staff is really friendly and they all speak great english, there wasn’t any language barrier (although it was a bit hard to understand them with mask and faceshield, but there’s nothing they can do about that). I had to wait a bit, but my case wasn’t really that urgent, so that’s fine. The doctor took her time to talk and listen to me, she wasn’t in too much of a rush, took her time to explain how to take the medication, everything was great. They gave me the medication right after I paid and had even labeled it so I didn’t have to remember when to take which one and how much of which one. (I had food poisoning) And for all of that I paid a bit under 200€. It would have never been that cheap in a german hospital and the service was way better here, the equipment as well. Even the prices that other people are saying like 1000€ per night aren’t really expensive for such a good hospital. At least for my issue it was perfect.

Saw an OBGYN who was excellent. Staff were all excellent too. Even the price was fair. Bangkok Hospital Samui was clean and the ultrasound equipment was top notch. Recommend!

Experienced staff. Great facilities and very professional. Everyone speaks English. I had a very infected wound and the doctor acted immediately. The rooms are great with TV, kitchen area and spare bed. The prices are very high so either be insured or rich.

I’ve used this hospital many times for a variety of health problems. Never had a bad experience. It is clean, well-organised and the doctors are competent. Is it cheap? No. That seems to be the main complaint. But it is widely regarded as one of the best hospitals on the island.

I am very pleased and impressed with the level of service at Bangkok Hospital. I've been to the site in Samui and Pha-ngan. The physicians have both been excellent, listening to me and responding to my concerns. The customer service provided by support staff has also been excellent!

Had a terrible experience with the skin care at Bangkok Hospital Samui. The doctor has injected much more product that I have requested and in different areas too. The right side of my face was left puffy in comparison to the right side. After 2 weeks I went back for correction but it didn’t help at all. I have presented them with all photos with my asymmetrical face after 3 months, and they still did not help me or refund me fully. I will never go back there again. Careless doctor!

Thought this private hospital standard would be similar to other branches but everything goes very slow. I came here for diarrhea and it took me total 5 hrs from discharge. There are miscommunication between department and claim department. Even front staff said i can claim full amount but by the time the treatment is about to begin, staff needed to go and check again. Only good thing is staff and nurse are nice, apart from this if no urgent, i might just go to other hospital.

Felt very comfortable the entire time. Very fast and efficient treatment. Staff was very competant and extremly friendly. However, recommend to have an insurance in place as prices even for simple treatments are quite a bit

Too much expensive for tourist who comes here. They charge for hospital fee for 1000bath for the first arrival and it’s nonsense for this because after you still have to pay seperately for the doctor examination. I came to take out my contact lens stuck in my eye, and total I have to pay over 4000bath for the doctor just only look at the eye and drop some eye liquid inside and take it out. All the work are maximum 5 minutes and they charge for that price. they said the price depends on doctor, he will write whatever the price he wants. Service is fast, hospital is clean, but the payment process you have to wait quite long time around 30-40 minutes.

My husband has recently spent 6 days in hospital here . He was diagnosed with pneumonia and infection in gut . The treatment was excellent from the moment he arrived. The staffs communicated very well despite the language barrier, most staff spoke very good English . Thank you to everyone who was involved with my husbands care . The only difficult time was sorting out the insurance payment which took 6 hours after we were told he could be discharged. Thanks again Jayne

AVOID AT ALL COST! I had stitches in my toe and I got a bill of €400. They charge ridiculous prices for everything. For example medicine you can buy for 50Baht they charge you 2000Baht. The quality of the procedure was good but unfortunately this is a tourist trap....

I’ve had to go to the hospital as I was feeling unwell and was quite worried. The staff treated me with respect, gently and efficiently. I’m grateful for their rapid response. They were able to perform various tests with lab work being ready in a matter of 1-2 hours, which was super quick. The doctors I interacted with were very knowledgeable and patient with me. No one tried to over sell me on anything. Thanks again.

So my experience has been fantastic. I came in with an incipient ear infection. I was admitted immediately and was in treatment within 15 minutes of arrival. The doctor cleaned my ear and I was given antibiotic drops. Everything was covered by my insurance, I didn't have to pay anything on the spot. Plus free coffee from the vending machine :-) Resolved within 30 minutes. The hospital is well equipped, clean, staff speaks English and 100% professional!
