The hotel disappointed us across the board. In our eyes, this is a former 5* hotel that has been consistently run down and is now performing significantly worse than other 2* or 3* hotels we have visited this holiday. The only positive points are the generous room size, the separation of toilet and shower and a spacious balcony with outdoor bathtub. The complex itself is also very nicely laid out, but is clearly getting on in years. We were able to check in at 12 noon, there are two bottles of fresh water every day and the staff is always friendly and helpful. There are sports facilities, such as kayaking and badminton, and the buffet seems fine at first glance. And that's where we come to the negative aspects, which unfortunately totally spoiled our holiday finale, where we wanted to treat ourselves to something with the 5* star hotel. The buffet was nothing special for 5* stars and only covered the basics of a breakfast buffet. In addition, the waffles were often dry and crumbly, as were the "cinnamon buns", which had the consistency of cardboard and were apparently a few days old. Arriving at the room, the first look seemed promising but on closer inspection we noticed the shortcomings. We have several large house spiders and cobwebs in the corners of the room. The corners are dirty, if you move the bedside cabinet just a little bit, you will also see dirt and when I opened the bathroom cabinets, you could see that they had not been cleaned for a long time (see pictures). The balcony was unfortunately not much better. The wood on the railing and on the roof was splintery and pieces of wood fell into the bathtub from time to time. The whole balcony was full of dirt and bird poop and we had to clean the bathtub thoroughly ourselves to be able to use it at all. The pillows were stained and after a heavy rain the water didn't run off and the room service only pulled off the seating outside but left everything like that (see pictures). In the room itself the wifi did not work most of the time, the TV did not receive normal channels nor was it a SmartTV and the room cards did not work several times either. The air conditioning is very loud even on the lowest setting and is aimed directly at the bed so that we already had a sore throat after two nights. However, you can't leave it off because the doors to the balcony don't close completely and it gets very warm at night. The complex itself is divided into two parts and both have a large pool. One seems to have a sandy bottom and in the front area there is a large pool and a children's pool. During our stay, the swimming areas in the front part seemed to be cleaned all the time, but still there were leaves and grass floating everywhere on the water and lying on the pool floor. The metal seating is rusted and there are broken tiles all over the poolside and entryways. There are only loungers on the beach and not directly by the pool, where there are cigarette butts, glasses from the night before and some of the plastic loungers are broken. The only thing I can say about the service is that everyone is friendly and always seems to be trying. However, there is no introduction at check-in when and where breakfast is, what the check-in and check-out times are or what the hotel has to offer. There is also no information sheet in the rooms. In addition, there is no pick-up from the pier, here there is a shuttle, but after several requests in advance, only a standardised answer is sent here and no response to my questions. Here I would recommend taking a Lomprayah shuttle for 150 THB per person and not a local taxi for 800 THB as suggested by the hotel. The hotel is also very remote and to get into town you need a scooter, which was offered to us by the hotel for 350 THB per day, which we kindly declined and preferred to walk into town to rent a scooter for a better price. At one time the hotel seemed like it might have been 5*, but now it is definitely not up to scratch. Actually, I would like to end our stay here.

This has been the most disappointing resort I’ve ever come to. To summarise what was a horrendous experience, my partner and I checked out in under 20 hours of our arrival, 8 of those we spent attempting to sleep. If you are planning to spend money at this resort, please read the below. 1. The rooms are horrid + unsafe; stained towels, mouldy ceilings, hair in the showers and sinks, no wifi or TV, slippery floors that don't seem to have been cleaned at all between guests, there is exposed electrical wiring under one of the sinks causing a light to flick every 10 seconds and to top it all off, as my partner was showering on our first and only evening, he had a huge cockroach run up his leg, I managed to get a photo of it before it ran into the wall. 2. Unsafe: There is absolutely no security or management of who is coming and going from this resort. For the time we were there, the front desk has been "manned" (really they were just lounging on the couches on their phones) by 2 young women and seemingly no security. 3. Despite being off season and there being only a few other guests, the rooms have the thinnest walls ever, you can hear everything, to the point where I could hear the front desk phone ringing as I was calling from my room to mention the faulty wifi. 4. The food and drinks are HORRIBLE. I was willing to give the benefit of the doubt as it is the off season and I understand that not all dishes can be amazing, but a plastic wrap covered margarita pizza that is completely inedible that took 45 minutes to arrive, is unacceptable, not to mention the fact that I needed to send back 2 cocktails as they both were filled with bugs, even though we were the only customers in the restaurant, sitting 10 meters from the bar INDOORS as there was no one manning the "beach bar". There is so much more I could put here but I don't want this to be longer than it already is. We felt we had no other choice than to move across the island to an entirely different resort, to which we had a fantastic time. We went through the process of requesting a refund for all the above reasons and management attempted to shift the blame on us for not notifying the appropriate people with enough time to rectify. All I’ll say is that the above issues shouldn’t have the be raised in order to be fixed by staff, clean rooms and edible meals should be a given when paying the amount we had. Do NOT book this resort, your money is so better spent anywhere else. Something really needs to be done about the false advertisement / monitoring of these so called “5 star resorts”.

The abandoned hotel running by unqualified managers!! Hotel property is exceptional but needs renovation. There’s a shuttle bus everyday to the main location Nathon and Chaweng which was pretty impressive. All the staffs working there are so kind and helpful except thai staffs. Specially, the reception staff Ayuska and Sonam, these two girls make our holiday wonderful. They are so welcoming and friendly. Everyday same breakfast, limited food menu, food quality served in the restaurant was not five star quality as their price. One of the manager is so rude. Coming again ? Not sure!!

Avoid this hotel at all costs. The location is quite secluded, you'll always need a personal vehicle or a cab to get around. It's definitely not a 5 star property.... Understaffed hotel, poor service, poorly lit, horrible beach definitely not suitable for swimming. The restaurant is terrible and the last order is at 8:30 pm. What kind of a 5 star property doesn't let you order food. Such a waste of money.

Extremely laid back and relaxing vibes. A bit off the beaten track from central Koh Samui, but heavily underrated! Located right beside Four Seasons and beautiful sunset bars like “For Rest”. Beautiful pool, beach front and excellent restaurant. Highly recommend the Pad Thai & Margarita Pizza. Fitness facility needs an upgrade. Would love to come back here.

Gorgeous location and sunset. However, far away from the markets. Room was ok, mold was present where a painting had been sitting (but now taken down). Only two towels were provided and the balcony door was extremely hard to open. Great size and amazing bed though. The staff was not very attentive or friendly, perhaps they had a bad few days. We told them about our anniversary but they did not show any recognition. Maybe because the whole resort was under construction and they did now have time. Pool was large and nice but dirty. The pool bar gets busy and only one staff member works there, making the waiting period long. The shuttle bus to Nathan pier was always full unless booked in advance (only a 5 seater car). Overall, good experience - would not say 5 stars but maybe once construction is finished and more staff is hired, it could be! Would consider coming back in a few years time.

Great hotel and superb staff. Location was a little out of the way so we hired a bike to get about. Would recommend to anyone looking for a peaceful bit of paradise.

Our family spent a week here and overall it was pleasant. The resort grounds were well maintained, the pools were lovely, the rooms in general were nice. The beds were super comfortable however no storage and the "bath" was a waste of space. The breakfast was delicious however the dining in general was very expensive and below average. We were disappointed with the cocktails. The staff however were friendly and efficient and we appreciated the flowers and cake for my daughter's birthday.

I was a little worried at first after reading some bad reviews, however once we arrived we were pleasantly surprised. It is a beautiful resort - huge swimming pool, beautiful large luxurious rooms. Breakfast was great - lots of options and food was topped up frequently (contrary to other reviews). There was a kayak which could used free of charge, sunset was amazing over the water. All the staff were very friendly and helpful. I feel sad that this lovely hotel has gotten such bad reviews…we stayed in much more expensive places during our trip, and this one had to be the best value for money. Only slightly downside was location, however totally fine if you have a scooter and want a more quiet stay.

I’ve never written a review for anywhere in my life but I’m Writing this on the toilet of a different hotel after leaving there early not caring that we had paid for longer because i got so sick from being there. Unsure if it was from the food or the pool that once I had swam in saw it had mould all in it. 🥲 Should have read the reviews before going cause like many others we lasted less than 2 days. Service when we got there was non existent, room cleaning … no. We were ignored as soon as we walked into the one restaurant they have I had to get up and find everything myself after waiting for 40 mins, the phone in our room wasn’t connected which was an interesting one….. we couldn’t ask anyone for anything cause there wasn’t a way for us to … weird experience, felt eerie and just not right. It became almost a weird inside joke in the short time we were there with other people staying at how bad it was? Felt like a fever dream that I actually got a fever and now gastro from!

Wow, 6000 m2 pool accessible for everybody, not only for hotel's guests. This hotel is very beautiful, simply stunning. Drinks are the bar are not expensive, friends are saying that food is not worthy. The beach is not very nice and good. They have a floating platform that goes 200 meters in the see, for snorkeling. You should definitely see this place.

Very nice place with nice rooms. Amazing bathrooms. Good breakfast and staff. Pools are very clean and spacious. Best pools we’ve seen in Thailand. Unfortunately the beach is very polluted. A lot of plastic waste gets stranded to the beach and the water itself is also quite full of plastic. Better to stay in the pool.

Certainly not a 5 star Hotel. Why are Hotels are allowed to mislead with false advertising. Are there no penalties for that in Thailand. Call this a 2 star Hotel The first impression makes that clear Nobody welcomes you when you arrive, the reception is not staffed Room not ready 11 am after arriving from an international flight - claim Hotel is fully booked nobody checked out ….but there is 1 couple in the restaurant, nobody at the pool, and nobody at the beach …strange for a fully booked restaurant The pool is filthy as described by other guests, the food is horrible with a small selection and you are in the middle of nowhere The 4-5 star reviews are either fake and I hope Google addresses this issue one day or from people who never stayed at a Hotel beyond two stars Lastly don’t get your hopes up to use the beach, the water is very shallow full of stones and you have to walk out 1/2 km to get to a level of depth to swim Best is always book 1-2 nights first then extend the stay to minimize the damage from those tourist traps - sadly it still ruins 1-2 days of a vacation

My wife and I had the pleasure of staying here last month. We could not fault Mai Samui. As first time visitors to Thailand, we did not know what to expect and we were pleasantly surprised. The resort was great, lovely pools, fantastic staff, comfortable room and over all a lovely spot to relax. The only think I hope they will change is to stop advertising and promoting Elephant trekking at the resort. This barbaric and cruel business needs to stop and by promoting it with brochures is not helping. The only other negative aspect of our trip, and this cannot be blamed on the Mai Samui resort, is the filthy beach. The resort staff do their best to clean it up each morning but this is limited to the area directly in front of the resort itself. The rest of the beach is a disgrace with litter from from top to bottom. Rubbish / pollution everywhere up and down the beach and this is a real shame. Again, not the fault of this beautiful resort, but a real eye opener for us for sure. Shame on Thailand for not doing more to clean up this mess. That said, Mai Samui, we will be back. Highly recommended.

Think twice!! Worst ever. They are just not ready to have customer. I almost missed the bus for trip in the morning. Because breakfast was not ready. Its not buffet which is fine but the chefs were very slow. And there are only few tables. Besides i found 2 big cockroaches in the room and in the toilet. There were many death bugs and fly on the bed and table in front of the mirror. The swimming pool is too dirty to even put my feet in. The bathtub also has a lot of death bugs and many stain. No idea when they will be ready after covid. But i had very bad impression.

Here for just over a week and the staff are wonderful and helpful. Got a pool front room and great to walk out the door and straight into pool. Free transport into town and lots to see there. Swim up bar also very good. Downside for me is that the beds are very hard and I have trouble sleeping and wake up with a sore back and neck. Also for someone who doesn't eat or like seafood the restaurants serves a lot of it. Apart from that the sunsets on the beach while sipping a cocktail are great.

Had the misfortunate stay about 6 weeks ago Worst holiday of my life One to forget Manager was very rude and unaccommodating and wouldn't try an help with issues just kept saying "he was confused" he is NO way a manger. He is not up to date with the trips that can be booked at the so called resort They don't have 24 hours service as stated Beach was horrible with rocks and rubbish littering the shore The walkways and steps were dangerous and with the light shining up into your eyes at night made it very difficult to see where you were walking Food at breakfast was basic not a 5 star service Room had signs of mould and water damage Couldn't get TV reception WIFI kept dropping out Very remote location and costly when needing to catch taxis back to this so called resort They do offer a shuttle bus to TWO locations but the waiting time for return from these locations is appalling and costly if taking taxis back. The staff are over worked and lack commitment except for a handful that made our time spent half decent The cocktail and drinks selection was far from a 5 star resort I wouldn't recommend this place to stay

Bad overall, my wife is allergic to dust and felt really bad in the room so we tried to go out and leave aircon. The pool also was not pleasant at all feeling dirty so we didnt get in, the beach was nice and the relaxing chairs too, we went back the room to shower found many bugs and an open tooth paste in the shower. Eventually we left the same day we arrived as we found it hard to stay the night, we didnt get any refund for the day. This could be related to low season being harder for maintenance but the staff did not care to explain too much.

Excellent Japanese-style hotel, very friendly and helpful staff, beautiful beach available next to the hotel and a great swimming pool, free taxi every day to the city and to the small town of Natong and, among other things, free 1 hour of Yoga per week. The hotel is located in nature, surrounded by palm trees and a typical tropical ambience.

The hotel was really nice, clean and tidy. Because it is far away from everything else we rented a car and had a free parking spot right in front of the hotel. The room was nice as well, it is just a bit dark because there are not enough lights. Okay, the beach is not the most beautiful one but its still great and you can get a kayak for free from the hotel. The Breakfast was great, a big variety of all kinds of food and the staff was very friendly. Make sure you have a chat with the chef, he recomends great places far away from the typical tourist spots and you can see a lot more than the average Koh-Samui-Tourist Thanks you very much to the Mai Samui Resort Team!

We got an upgrade to a room on 3rd floor. Very spacious and beautiful room with nice ocean view and balcony, a lil outdated room but cant complain. The other reviews are all true. Its not super duper 5 stars hotel but I bet it used to be. But the location is on the other side of town where it is very quiet so its good for you to chillax on the not-so-busy side of Koh Samui. I highly recommend for the place. But you get what you pay for, a 5 star(?) hotel for 2000 THB a night.

We did one night in this hotel . Between staying at koh phangan and Samui. It gave us a quiet stay in a lovely resort away from everything. The resort is lovely but needs a bit of work. Not many places to sit around the pool but plenty by the beach front. Food at the pool bar was 3* at best. The room was very nice, comfortable beds, lots of space, beautiful bathroom and nice balcony. To the left of the hotel on the beach, is a nice coffee shop ( coffee only). 3 minutes walk Also, nice restaurant/bar when you turn left from the hotel entrance. Just keep walking on that road and you'll find Beryl pub. Great food , sunset and beer. Nothing fancy but very nice

The resort is extremely run-down, poorly maintained, and is nowhere near a 5 star rated establishment. The included breakfast was minimalist indeed, and of a low standard. It would appear from lunches and dinners that perhaps there was no chef in the kitchen, but merely a cook. Between breakfast and midday, the only restaurant was not open. The room itself was poorly cleaned and not well maintained, with doors that couldn’t open, badly leaking plumbing, and old coasters stuck to bathroom surfaces going mouldy. The shower needed to run for 5-6 minutes before any hot water ran through. Our arrival time was late on the first night, and via email a dinner of sandwiches and fruit had been arranged for our arrival, as our package included dinner for 10 nights. When we arrived, there was no food for us, and no staff to prepare anything. We arrived at around 9.30 pm. The buildings and infrastructure of the resort were extremely run-down, and parts of the hotel- including what was a restaurant and bar- were derelict and unused. As the disappointment of the experience was a bit much, we arranged lodging at another resort, and left Mai Samui after 2 nights. We do NOT recommend this resort!!

A youth hostel would be better than this place. We lasted 14 hrs. The breakfast was awful, the scrambled eggs freshly cooked was like rubber, the juice was processed and the containers were nearly empty. The pool had mould, the photos are not in real time. Maybe a nice resort years ago but not now. We knew it was out of the way, but omg it is really really isolated. Staff couldn't care any less if they tried, we were booked for 10days, we left and got a partial refund. Avoid there are so many nice hotels and resorts closer to town. The room was dusty, the glasses we didn't use looked like they hadn't been cleaned. This place needs to close and do major renovations or reduce to 2.5 stars at best. The coffee was cold out of an urn, tasted like dirty water.

Really nice hotel, arguably dated but it works for the location and feel for the place. Very quiet, tranquil with an excellent pool that's clean and warm eith a great swim up bar. Rooms are large and spacious with balcony, queen bed, sofa, walk in shower and a huge marble bath with floor to ceiling windows for a nice view while you bathe. On site restaurant offers excellent traditional food at reasonable prices. The beach is very clean, excellent location with clear waters and white sand. WiFi works great!! Taxi rank just outside and the hotel offers free bus services to nathon and chewang!! Along the road towards nathon is a host of restaurant and bars, highly recommend Ran Rao!! Overall not a 5* based on UK standards, but certainly an impressive hotel, location and setting to enjoy koh samui peacefully with good access to other areas of the island

Nice big spacious room with a huge bathroom and unique bath tub. Nice balcony. Wifi worked great. Breakfast was very limited for vegans, cook did make me a waffle without using egg which was good, otherwise all you can eat is fruit. Coffee was bad. Tiny portions for dinner at their restaurant and resort prices. Not much close by. Beach was nice and secluded but tide was very low (May 2023) so couldn't really swim.

A great place to stay if you want a quiet time to relax. The set up is great, but needs fixing after COVID. For the money you pay it is well worth a visit.

Staff were amazing but overworked. Too few staff with too much to do. Rooms were nice but the outside areas of the resort were tired. Place desperatly needs some maintenance. Location is very quite if thats what you want but makes getting places a pain. You want your own transport if staying here.

Very good resort. About 5 minutes by car to Nathon. There are a few restaurants near Resort of good quality. Rooms are large. Staff very good . Breakfast excellent. Unfortunately you can’t swim in beach as too many rocks. The sand needs to be cleaned each day. But the pools are excellent.

They try their best sometimes things are lost in translation but they are great. The pool is not green or dirty - the tiles are green coloured. Quiet and peaceful. Would recommend

The resort is fantastic but the food at the restaurant at night is disgusting. Cold and not cooked properly. They need to use a proper chef as the food is not restaurant quality.

The resort was good , the pool was dirty , the rooms were spacious with amazing bath tub, the room has dim light and so does the resort.
