To Ali’s response: just focus on your food quality please. Surprisingly awful given all the good reviews. Nothing seemed fresh. Anything tasted bad. Ordered hummus, falafel, palak paneer, paratha, spicy combo, pineapple lassi. Lassis were watered down. Palak paneer was like warm. Seemed microwaved or frozen. Everything just seemed off and not tasty. Falafel was okay but it’s hard to go wrong with fried food. Hummus was irredeemable and a shame. Owner seems too busy browsing the web and creating his travel videos. Should focus on the food instead. Really shocked this was at one point in the Michelin Guide 2018 — perhaps things turned upside down after the pandemic.

Deserved the 1 michelin star that they obtained. The food that I ordered was delicious at a reasonable price. Service was relatively quick considering it was full house. Space is small but lively since the owner himself entertained the diners.

By far my favorite restaurant in Japan. This Michelin starred restaurant not only serves the best Halal food in Japan, but also has the friendliest and most charismatic owner who is constantly visiting with the guests. He'll tell you stories from his travels and exciting life (check out his YouTube: "Ali's Japan") and will listen to anything you'd like to share. All of the food was incredible. The spices used in each dish were deliberately selected and finely balanced. I was especially impressed by the biriyani. It wasn't "just the side of carbs" like it often ends up as at other restaurants, but was very much a fantastic main dish by itself. I can't wait to go back again for another plate and try to guess all of the spices Ali uses for it. Definitely go out of your way to visit this small restaurant. It'll be worth the trip to just eat Ali's amazing food and to sit and chat with him for an evening. I can't recommend this restaurant more.

*Please avoid my review if you're not a foodie or don't have the knowledge of Pakistani food. I read that they are serving No.1 Biryani that's why I had my Dinner there. Mutton Biryani with Raita worth ¥1500 Average NOT THE NO.1 BIRYANI I also read some reviews that the owner is communicative but he didn't speak a single word with me. I told him that I came all the way from Fukuoka city just to have your meal and he just said "acha" means ok. That's it. * Biryani was tasty but oily. Ingredients were missing (lemon slices, tamarind and some toppings) ** Kuchumar Salad as a complimentary can be a great add to the meal.

The food was very mediocre. I did not have a good experience. My butter chicken was super oily and greasy. It came out with a huge puddle of oil sitting on top of the butter chicken. The chicken biryani did not have much flavor but more edible than the butter chicken. Not sure as to why there was white rice topped on the biryani. I bit into a bunch of chicken bones and almost choked because I assumed it was boneless. I went to this place because I saw they received a Michelin star and saw good reviews, but they did not live up to the expectation. This is probably the worst Pakistani food I’ve ever had. I do not recommend this restaurant, it was a disappointing experience. If you guys want good food, do yourself a favor and go to Kyoto and eat at Ajanta. The food at Ajanta will put this place to shame. This place taste like McDonald’s in comparison. I will not be back. They claim to have Japan’s best biryani and I do not agree. Not sure how they ever even received a Michelin star.

Today had nice dining experience in Osaka at Ali's Kitchen Halal Restaurant. We had enjoyed our dinner with Chapli Kabab Chicken, Naan, Bengan Aloo Curry with Green Salad. Food was extraordinary and excellent. Taste of Chapli Kebab is great.. I enjoyed food very much. This restaurant located in Osaka shopping area Dotanburi.. I recommend this restaurant for Arabic food Lovers...

I was craving some arabic food and accidentally saw their name last night. So I came here for lunch the next day. It feels like the place is hidden away, but it has a nice vibe to it. The lady who served us was friendly. Unfortunately they didn't have all the items in their menu. But the food that we ordered tasted very good.

Found the restaurant randomly while looking for a dinner place and I’m glad I found this one here! Everything starts with being happily greeted by the owner Ali who also guides you through the menu and recommends you on what you might want to eat. He is such a happy soul and really likes to talk about everything. I hope I manage to come back one more time before leaving Osaka!

Really friendly place, the owner is super chatty and fun, the staff are nice and attentive too. It seems to be pretty authentic from what I hear! The food was really tasty and the mixed curry I had was really spicy, be aware that the food here is actually spicy, not just Japanese level spicy. My friend had the shawarma which was good too! Price wise it’s fairly standard for japan. Overall a nice experience but I wouldn’t recommend it for a quiet date or anything, it’s very casual and open, in a good way.

I recommend you make a reservation because this place is popular on a Friday night. I called 45 minutes before I arrived to make a reservation, and they were able to reserve a table for us. The owner was very friendly, and they had no problem accommodating a vegan diet. The hummus and vegan biryani were fabulous. My non-vegan friends loved what they ordered too. I would definitely come back for the biryani.

As per the owners recommendation, got the mutton biriyani.... friend got the falafel set... Wasnt good, wasnt bad, just pretty basic... but it was small and cost 1800¥, while still hungry afterwards.. Whole meal you see in photo cost 4400¥ with 2 small lassies. Whats annoying is the preferential treatment to muslim clients... free tea, free dessert, free nan for them... like ok its cool, but u dont really need to make it that akward for the rest of us.. And also, does the owner really think we are interested in viewing his youtube videos on repeat while eating...

For a place claiming to have Japan’s #1 Biryani, it does not live up to the hype or the Michelin star it supposedly received. Biryani is dry, flavorless, and full of bones. Garlic naan was similar to uncooked pillsbury dough biscuits. Butter chicken curry was greasy, oily, and the chicken didn’t give authentic halal. I’d recommend Ajanta in Kyoto well before here, and they don’t have a Michelin star. Ali is a proud owner but there isn’t much to be proud of in my opinion.

FANTASTIC! Best meal I had in Osaka. The Arabic plate is a great value loaded with all the good stuff — lamb, beef, hummus, baba ganoush, pita etc. Great friendly service and lovely setting. The rice is fantastic as are the kebabs. Would go again and again, a must try!

DON'T BOTHER READING ANYMORE REVIEWS. JUST GO. THE FOOD IS THAT GOOD. But if you insist on reading not only does Ali's Kitchen have the best South Asian food in town but Ali's kitchen just has some of the best food for any cuisine here period. Their Bhindi,Dal and biryani are some of the few things I crave and will purposefully seek out. GO. NOW

Dinner at Ali’s Pakistani restaurant in Osaka, Japan was certainly an experience. The host himself is Ali, with a lively personality, who welcomes you into his small basement restaurant. The restaurant couldn’t seat more than 30 people at a time. When we went on a Saturday evening it was packed, and there was a waiting list, clearly seems to be a place to eat good Pakistani food. We thoroughly enjoyed the onion pakora as a starter with Chappli kebab, Chicken SEEKH Kebab and beef BOTI. From the vegetarian menu, we had Palak Aloo, Bindi Fry, and Daal. The food was delicious and we would highly recommend it if you are in Osaka and craving authentic spicy food from the subcontinent.

The food is good. The vegetarian meal costed ¥1000. However a garlic naan for ¥600 is a bit too steep.

The food is really great, I ordered 3 kebab set, and it was amazing especially the humus. The roti was not enough, though, so I ordered one more extra but the staff maybe forgot my order and I had to wait for a bit. Staff was probably overwhelmed, but she was very accommodating. The place was on the underground floor, so phone reception is not good, but it has a quiant and homey vibe. I would want to come again and try their chicken biryani next time.

I entered the store at 2:30 pm, the last minute for last order on Sunday lunch time. It was my first visit to the store. At first glance, the atmosphere may seem difficult to enter, but it's totally fine. I ordered biryani and hummus for lunch. I became interested in Hamos after seeing them being eaten on a certain solitary gourmet show. Biryani was described as spicy, but it was milder than I expected and the spiciness subsided easily. I think even people who don't like spicy food can go for it, and the yogurt sauce that comes with it does the job perfectly. Hamos is a chickpea dip, and it was also delicious. The saltiness and olive oil were just right for the sweetness of the chickpeas, and the accompanying bread disappeared in no time. There are many women using it alone, and the atmosphere is nice. The staff at the restaurant will also be kind enough to explain anything you don't understand, so if there's anything you don't understand, you can ask about it and enjoy your meal. Next time I would like to try the a la carte, which I have never tried before. It was a feast.

Probably some of the best chicken biryani I’ve ever had, hands down. The service was great too, and Ali, the owner, also takes time to make conversation with all the customers which only adds to the overall atmosphere of the restaurant. Would definitely recommend to anyone looking for great halal food in Osaka!

The service was wonderful and Ali is a very nice person to meet. It's rare to find such a great restaurant. Now I know why there's 1000s of good reviews and this restaurant is highly recommended by others. If you go, it's best to get reservations and call first.

Absolute Gem! From the service to the food, everything was fantastic. The staff are super sweet and Ali is very friendly and charismatic, he even showed us some his videos of his trips around Japan from his YouTube channel. The restaurant is hidden away and very cozy. The atmosphere was really nice and intimate. The menu was simple and easy to read (they have English menus aswell), and the sets make the ordering process seamless. I’d highly recommend the lamb curry and seekh kebabs. The biryani is also very good! Don’t miss this place if you’re in Osaka.

Amazing food which my 5 year old daughter enjoyed too. Ali kept us engaged and it was fun to talk to him. Also his suggestions were really good like chapli kebab. You got to eat here as it is right next to shinshabashi station and after shopping it's the best place to eat at.

We were having our early dinner here on 21 dec 23. The owner, mr Ali Johor who is very friendly and suggested the best foods to try on including chicken and lamb briayani, paya (beef leg) soup. The food portion is good for any asian tourist and delicious. Mr Ali was very generous to us by giving some complimentary additional food and drinks. Overall, it is a good place to dine in after long walk around osaka town

I liked everything there except that the rice I think was a bit undercooked. The mutton biryani has tomatoes which I don't quite fancy but I guess that's what the basic recipe for biryani here is.

  • 2/5 Abz H. 1 year ago on Google
Read many great reviews, so I came here and got the curry chicken with basmati rice. It was alright. It was good, but I wasn’t blown away by the flavours; it was like simpler curry…a home cooked meal. Nothing super fancy, no complimentary appetizers or snacks, no garnish on the dishes, or really any effort for the presentation or ambiance. I expected more because of all the reviews and the Michelin star. It wasn’t bad. It was average/ good. But it wasn’t the best chicken curry dish I’ve ever had. I critique food, so giving a three star is a pass. I hate to add this but I must mention the high prices for what you get. This dish was about 18 Canadian dollars (a curry dish with one piece of chicken and a plate of rice). I wish the prices were a bit lower, it seemed a bit much for what I ordered and I’ve traveled the world- this was one of the pricier dishes for this kind of plate/ casual restaurant set up. Perhaps this is the norm in Japan. Overall good flavours, I only tried one main dish. Could have more chicken, more spice, and lower prices- but it was good for anyone looking for a Pakistani taste in Japan.

South Asian halal restaurant in the center of Osaka. Even though the place is quite small, the service is great. You can get the food quickly. Also the price (by buying the set menu) is considered economical. The taste was also good, you might find it spicy in some food.

Every dish we tried was amazing, 100/10 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟this place will not disappoint!! The owner, Ali, came in about halfway through our meal and was the perfect host, greeting every customer, and sharing his travel experience! The service was very fast, fresh, and made to order. I hope to see this restaurant in Okinawa one day, if not, I will return to Osaka just for this food, thank you, Ali! Subscribe to @AlisJapan on YouTube for great travel content!!

It was really good to find a Pakistani restaurant in Osaka, and boy did it deliver. The food was really good, especially the famous Biryani. The drinks were amazing too, especially the mango juice. The owner was kind and talkative, and could speak Japanese, English and Urdu. Would definitely recommend if you happen to be in the area. P.S. Thanks Ali for teaching my little brother magic tricks :)

Ali’s Kitchen was an amazing find for us during our stay in Japan. Although my wife and I love Japanese food, we were starting to miss Pakistani cuisine and were so happy we found this spot! Ali is an incredible host who has a fascinating backstory - he can speak 10 languages and effortlessly switches between English, Urdu, Arabic and Japanese. He was super warm, friendly and welcoming when we walked in. We ordered the mutton biryani, mutton nihari, garlic naan and samosas which were outstanding! I love my food very spicy, the dishes were delicious and on point. 10/10 would recommend coming here if you’re looking for good Pakistani food in Osaka. Thanks for the good time and food Ali! -Danyal and Sana

Great restaurant! Definitely make a reservation in advance, but they let us make a reservation for an hour after we walked in, so we just wandered through the stores while we waited. Ali was very nice and talked to each table with genuine interest and charisma. The food was absolutely delicious and every person at the table finished their plate. Lots of vegetarian options as well. The restaurant was fun and very inviting. Very comfortable and very delicious.

I recently visited a restaurant during lunchtime and had a mixed experience—the food was fantastic! However, I must mention that the service fell short of expectations. The restaurant seemed to be short-staffed, with only one lady handling all the customers. Given the number of people present (around 10-12), it became quite overwhelming for her, and she appeared to be forgetting some of the orders that were placed. Despite the service hiccup, Nonetheless, it did affect the overall experience, especially in terms of efficiency
