Entoto Mariam is one of the oldest churxh in Addis. Entoto Mariam church is even older than Addis Ababa itself. The church was first established by Emperor Menelik and Empress Taitu in in 1877. The church compound includes the former palace of Emperor Menelik and a museum rich in historical artifacts of the battle of Adwa and royal relics and highly valued church prayer equipments.

Residence of erstwhile king at Adjacent enclosure is not obvious, and likely to be missed.

Visited but stayed outside. Walked to the church from the outskirts of the city below (parked near the US Embassy). The walk was definitely worth it. There is a museum co-located on the church property. The church was built by Emperor Menelik II and is the burial place of Menelik and his wife Empress Taytu. Entrance to the museum requires a fee. (I didn’t visit the museum.)

The octagonal Entoto Maryam Church hosted Menelik’s coronation, but sadly for a church of such historical significance, the only time you can catch a glimpse of the interior is during Sunday Mass, and even then, casual visitors (as opposed to genuine worshipers) are not welcome.

This is the first church built in Addis Ababa, by the famous king Minilik the second. Here you will see the palace and the beauty of view of Addis Ababa from the top. Very quite and excellent place to concentrate on your self. You can get a priest to help you solve some issues going on in your life. You can easily concentrate on your prayer. Very nice church for the Ethiopian orthodox religion. Still traditional way of worshipping God. Lovely place.

Entoto Maryam church, at Mount Entoto, is the second oldest Ethiopian Orthodox Church in Addis Ababa. At the churche's compound, you can visit a museum which displays a number of artifacts related with the churche's foundation and other old historical objects which belonged to Emperor Menelik II and Empress Taytu. Once at Entoto Maryam Church, don't leave without visiting the grass roofed palace of Emperor Menelik II. It was from this palace that Menelik II marched to the Battle of Adwa to defeat invading Italians in 1896. Generally, Entoto Maryam is a nice place to visit in Addis Ababa!

Stopped by Maryam church after a visit ti Entoto Park. Was wonderful to walk the grounds with a guide and hear about the old palace. The church wasn’t open at the time of visit so couldn’t go inside. The museum was interesting as well.

Adadi Mariam is a rock-hewn monolithic church located approximately 66 km southwest of Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. A popular tourist destination, the site is believed to have been built in the 12th century. Throughout its history the church has been damaged by both man-made and natural causes.

Great place to check out before a venture into Mecato. Leave the hustle of the outer rim of the market to find peace and tranquility by very inviting and kind hosts. Gladly give you a walk around for a few birr and if you’re really lucky you’ll get to see the giraffe!

Nice to attend the prayers of the devotees and even more to stop in this relaxing place by observing the beautiful panorama from above (we are about 3,000 meters above sea level) over the entire city, ... having the good fortune of finding a clear day as happened to us.
