👍👍 The falls are a real highlight during the raining season. The whole trip to get there is an adventure. You see how the locals live and walk through the primary forest. It’s very muddy, so bring proper shoes. People often mention falls, Blue, Nile, waterfall, season, walk, Bahir, water, beautiful,

Great day trip from Bahir Dar. It takes about 2h drive and most of the road is pretty good. Amazing views of the waterfalls and you can get very very close to the water as well as right on the top edge of the falls. You will want to get a guide from the office at the beginning of the park, it costs 200bir. Our guide was very helpful and was definitely worth having him.

The Blue Nile is locally known as 'Tis Abay' which means 'Great Smoke'. You will need to engage / pay a guide to bring you to the waterfall from the drop off point. It took about 20-30 minutes thereabout to walk on basically flat ground to reach the waterfall. Not strenuous. The waterfall was striking and beautiful well worth the walk

This is a place you must visit if you are close to bahir dar city. You will travel there by bus and then get a ticket. I recommend you to take a walk not a boat at the first way. So many kids will try to sell trinkets and if you want photo then you will have to pay for it. So I azdvice you to bring some cookies or candies, but the best would be to give them pen, pencil or notebook or book, anything for their school. Don't limit your time, enjoy it. Blue Nile falls will greet you with its power & beauty.

The water flow has been severely reduced due to the dam, but the waterfalls and surroundings are still impressive and worth a visit. Take the long way for a nice moderate hike with some excellent views. The hassle of the merchant children following you the entire way is annoying though, especially since this is a paid tourist attraction.

Blue Nile Falls, Tis Abay The Blue Nile Falls, known locally as ‘Tis Abay’ meaning ‘Great Smoke’, are an assertion to Ethiopia’s natural beauty. The Blue Nile Falls are the only and the most breathtaking falls anywhere along the longest river of the world. The Falls cascade down a 42m-high drop to produce a dazzling spray of mist and rainbows. More pronounced during the rainy season, when the falls are at their strongest. Through the natural 400m-wide flow, the three-pronged waterfall is an event that makes you wonder what the power of water is like. The falls are jaw-droppingly huge to make you run the moment you face them. The falls are located 28km southeast of Bahir Dar town

Super blessed to have the opportunity to go there several times, while i was attending higher education at Bahir Dar University, it is 13 km away from where I was located. I advice everyone to go visit the great Blue Nile falls, it's just remarkable. You either can walk near to the falls or tak a boat. The guides arw friendly and well cultured.

Originally, the Blue Nile meandered away from Lake Tana before plunging violently over the side of a 400m (1,312ft) wide gorge into a chasm below. Unfortunately, due to hydroelectric projects upstream, the waterfall today is only a shadow of its former self.

The beauty of Abay river water fall is breathtaking. If you are around Bahir Dar you should visit it. But you should consider the season, the rainy season Starts in June and ends in October.

Went here during the rainy season in August so it was a bit of a challenge to get there. Locals will help you walk though the muddy terrain for tips. Heard there is a more scenic walk through a bridge.

I will post the pictures later, but as you can already see in other reviews, the season is super important here. So if you come between January - June, you're probably going to be disappointed. I came in late May and the waterfall was like a miniature, nothing like in the impressive pictures. Was not worth it at all to go there. Would have enjoyed more sticking around Bahir Dar. Also, be careful if you come here by bus. The last one to return to Bahir Dar is very early, around four or five. The next one stands until it's full, and this might never happen. We had to hitchhike our way back. Yeah, not all Europeans are going with private expensive expeditions. Some of us like the real travelling ;-)

Tia abay a beautiful place over a blue nile "The Blue Nile Falls is a waterfall on the Blue Nile river in Ethiopia. It is known as Tis Abay in Amharic, meaning "great smoke". It is situated on the upper course of the river, about 30 kilometres (19 mi) downstream from the town of Bahir Dar and Lake Tana. The falls are one of Ethiopia's best-known tourist attractions".
