A very small museum but with massive potential. Drop by to learn about the history of Johor Lama. I can’t wait to see how this place develops, it’s a historical site.

This place is a hidden gem guys..anyone should come here and learn about Johor Lama’s history and enjoy a magnificent view of Sungai Johor as well as traditional village that is still exists here. To reach here is quiet far from the main junction but trust me guys it’s worth it.

A walk into the history of Johor. Simple setup but there's a lot of stories unfold in here. Entrance is free and do expect to spend about one hour here.

Location is somewhat secluded but you can see that the museum is very well taken care of eventhough it was closed nearly 3 months during the MCO period. The guards were very friendly and helpfull.

We stumbled across this place after searching ng for what to do in Desaru. It is a small museum where you can learn about the origin of Johor Sultanate and the start of Johor state. The place is out of the way because it is at the shore. True to its name, Kota Johor Lama it is a fort built in the early days of Johor. The guards manning the place is very helpful in explaining the place history. You can also play congkak which is provided at the lounge in the museum. Standing on the fort you can see the river opening if the trees are trimmed.

The place itself is very well maintain with well maintain surrounding area as well but the museum needs more artifacts and better explanation. It needs to look livelier to attract younger crowds and represents its history in a more entertaining manner.. Overall there's ground for improvement..

Free quaint little museum which houses a handful of historical relics from the early Johor sultanate days. Entrance is free and the last 150m is only fit for a single car's width. At most, can be done in 20min.

    1. I arrived at the museum at exactly 12 noon, but the door was locked. It turns out that today is Friday and it will be closed from 12.30pm to 2.30pm. But it's only 12 o'clock now. . . . . 2. This place is actually quite remote, with no one around. Do you have to wait here for 2 and a half hours? 3. Search online to see where you can go nearby and find a crocodile farm that claims to be the largest in West Malaysia. If you have nothing to do, you can go and take a look. There are many century-old crocodiles inside, and they are really big in size. 4. If you want to eat crocodile meat and crocodile eggs, they are all available here. 5. Closer to home, this museum briefly describes the founding history of Johor. The Sultanate of Johor faced many invasions from foreign enemies. The city was destroyed and then rebuilt in another place. It was destroyed again and then rebuilt in another place. . . . The spirit of never giving up. This story is quite inspiring, right? 6. The most unexpected information. When we read history textbooks, we will all tell us that the Sultan of Johor wanted to take back Malacca, so he fought with the Portuguese in a sworn battle. 7. But it turns out that there was a Sultan of Johor who once reconciled with Portugal. Even when Portugal was attacked by Aceh, Johor sent troops to help Portugal out of trouble. 8. Portugal also invited the Sultan to Malacca to entertain him. This plot is very paradoxical. What considerations did the Sultan make in making such a decision? Make peace with Portugal? Want Portugal to return Malacca? Whatever the reason? I think he doesn't understand the methods of these Western colonists too much. 9. This museum was built on the original site of KOTA JOHOR LAMA. Some relics were excavated here before. After cleaning them up, we decided to build a museum here to commemorate them. 10. Directly opposite the museum are actually the remains of the city wall, which now look like uneven grassland. If you look carefully, you can still see some traces of man-made construction.

Some times the best things are free! This is a hidden gem, unknown to many locals. A great exhibition of weapons and architecture of the 16th century during the conflict between the rulers of Johor and the Portuguese rulers of Melaka. Some great examples of archaeological discoveries from the area, look out for the house boats on the water as you leave

The place is slightly below my expectation. From outside, it looks big. But when you enter the museum, there's only 2 parts from the house that you can look into.

A little bit far from kota tinggi highway, very kampung style place, the museum is not very big, maybe 10min enough, but outside is very freestyle place, can take photo and feeling the old place for war

f you have extra time in this area, you may pay visit to the museum to understand a little of the Johor history. You wont find much but i do enjoy the trip with my kids there for their knowledge and also for them to experience the wooden house with many windows feel. It is FOC by the way.

The museum is located behind the Kota Batu Defense Line on the top edge of the hill, displaying artifacts found around the place. The museum is not that big but essential to the local history related to Malacca, Acheh and Portuguese. The staff are friendly and will shared any info related to the history and excavated artifacts found as long as being nice to them.

A small museum located in secluded small village. I love the oil palm scenery along jalan kota lama road. It was beautiful. Luckily the small road leads to here are good & the entrance free. The museum is small and you can finish it within 30 minutes. It's worth a try.. please support this museum.
