Let me start off by saying that the stairs on this trail definitely weren’t built to Australian standards but hey, thailand right! The trail is rough going and dodgy as heck but SO WORTH IT. The views from this amazing location are stunning and the beach on the other side is amazing. We saw multiple monkeys on our trek and had a great time watching them. When we were there you had to show COVID status in order to gain access to the beach on the other side. We swam in the beach on both sides of the trail and had an amazing time.

The European conception about nature as a domestic place, finds its symbolic representation in natural trails. The Monkey trail has disappointed me because It doesn’t carry out the European regulations of mapping, accessibility, and safety that it is supposed to have. Nor has it satisfied the expectations of the romantic vision of wild nature due to the very existence of a path, its presence on the internet, but above all because of the excess of mischief and awareness of the monkey population that lives in the area. I make a bad review of the monkeys because, as I said, they are too aware of their own existence, and their territorial right, which is why they often take tolls on tourists in the form of robberies or aggressions. From their behavior I expected a certain civility, or at least a bit of correlation with the indifferent calm that characterizes them in zoos. Although the worst of all is that they do not always appear on the trail, and the only thing that is expected from the Monkey Trail is precisely the presence of macaques.

Been to Krabi 3 times in two years. Walked the Monkey Trails multiple times. Sometimes it’s 5 stars, sometimes it’s 0 stars. If you see monkeys, and you have a plastic bag, it’s gone. They will attack you suddenly. We have been attacked multiple times because we bring bags and the monkeys will grab anything they think resembles food. They are not playful. They are aggressive. Be careful. Otherwise the trail is nice but demanding.

You’ll get to see a few monkeys on the way. Part of the trail that is more steep have wooden stairs. At the of the trail is a beach and before entering, the guard will ask for your vaccination certificate and have you write your info on a log book. We spent a couple of minutes in the sea and it gets quite wavy at times.

Fun trail, have seen at least 30 apes, maybe even more. Easy to take pictures because they’re not afraid of humans. I’ll recommend not to feed the apes, that’s the moment they get rude. The climb is easy and you get to a beach with a fantastic view. Great to take some pictures at the beach. Most apes are at the beginning of the stairs, they hope to get some food there so if you want to take pictures with them, do it at the beginning and hold your phone tight. Trail takes about 10 minutes to go one way, it’s not too hard, everyone can at least try it.

About a 15-20 minute walk, over a set of wooden stairs (watch your step, they aren’t super even) to a gorgeous and quiet beach. Incredible views of the surrounding mountains from the water. Didn’t see any monkeys on the walk there but saw about six on the way back, compared to other locations I’ve been they seemed less likely to come close to humans. Will come back for sure!

I do wish this trail was longer but it’s a very easy trek near the beach if you just want to see some monkeys. The steps can get very steep and rickety in places so make sure to wear good footwear. You’ll get up close with the monkeys but make sure to keep a close eye on your belonging-they know how to work a zipper

Good, short trail with plenty of crab-eating/long-tailed macaques just enjoying themselves. The trail is about 10-20 minutes long but it can depend on how many other people are on it. There won’t be any impressive views and the monkeys are only present, at least when I went in February 2023, at the start of the trail by the water. Some parts are quite steep but it’s all very manageable. Keep in mind it’s not some well-protected trail and it’s possible, however unlikely, to fall down to potentially dangerous territory. I would not advise going inebriated or in bad weather. Note that there is/was someone at the end of the trail with a register to check-in. This is also the nearest easily accessible point with a rubbish bag!! The macaques are used to humans and generally keep to themselves, although if you get too close they seem to expect some food or something and might be a bit more adventurous (see pictures of one trying to snatch my camera 🥹).

Such a nice hike. We came here on a Tuesday around 9h30 and some locals arrived here to feed the monkeys. They where all packed at the same place waiting for the food. Be smart and don't pet them or don't take a selfie close next to them, people got bitten! The end of the trail is at a beach.

A beautiful path that leads to a beach strip and a hotel nearby. Wooden stairs leading to a hidden and charming beach. The trail itself is shaded and easy to walk. The vehicle can be parked nearby.

An awesome short trail over the mountain that connects the main Ao Nang beach to a more secluded beach with only a beach resort on it. The trail is made up of wooden stairs and offers great views. Some parts of the trail were a bit dangerous, especially if there are people going both ways. You might encounter monkeys on the trail, one day we didn't see any and the other we saw a whole family.

Very short hike, but quite steep up and down over the rock. High chance to see some monkeys. Just keep watching the trees near the end of the path before descending to the best beach in the area.

It leads you to a much better swimming experience that Ao Nang can propose to you. Just about 5-7 minutes. Good for you health as well. But pay attention to some of the steps. They are rather fragile

It's a small trail and the beach on the other side is okay, but not worth the effort unless you are staying at one of the resorts that side. If you are in Ao Nang you will most certainly go to Railay and/or Phi Phi anyway and you will get enough of the beach stuff there. The trail in itself in just a general path with some wooden steps and some barren earth. It's short, so you can indeed do it for fun, but don't expect an insane view on the other side.

Fun trail to walk to get to the beach and a good workout. Might seem dangerous during the first steps, but seems to be well maintained. You will most likely meet some monkeys on the way.

Around 500m trail through wooden platforms and stairs. Need to pay attention at some steps a bit loose and possible slippery surfaces but in general terms easy path. If you're lucky you'll see the monkey family living around. The beach you reach when finishing the trail is beautiful.

pretty cool little pathway, not for sandals, wear proper shoes this is a hand made rickety walkway. it leads to another resort/private beach. you don’t need to pay to go there. watch your belongings and food around the monkeys they’re literally everywhere.

A poorly designed for safely but incredible made to explore nature .. well some of it. The steps here are made up of woods and they aren’t aligned properly. If this Trail is to be rated for Safety I would gladly score it -5/10 (minus). But for some this is fun. I have seen daddies carrying they toddler and infants up and young adults able to climb up as well. As you climb up you will see glimpse of the beach (beautiful). Many reviews had warned about food and monkeys but I didn’t see any there. Time :45 min.

If you wanna see monkey please visiting here, but not every day you can see. Warning no eye contact or fighting to monkey if not all of monkey will come to attack you. You should walk without pay attention. Be careful of your snack, drinking water or inside your plastic bag. They thought food inside and stole it. If in your hand that is yours, but when money take it. It's will become monkey's belonging.

Secret monkey trail.. Not so secret but we went along.. Tough climb in some parts and at first didn't see any monkeys. There's a private beach at the end which we didn't stay for long because it became crowded and we realised the beach half way through was better. Monkeys can be hard to find but depends on the time of day you go. We went around 10am. Bring water.. It's hot!

This is a good addition to get from the Centara resort over to Ao Nang beach but could have it's challenges for some. Such challenges would be; good physical fitness required, good footwear required for most (can be done in flip flops), nature on the trail (only seen bats and bugs), height and steep elevations, rickety steps and hand rails. It sounds worse than it is, obviously not all of the challenges above would apply to everyone. It takes around 15 minutes but maybe longer for slower adventurers.

Very short walk - wouldn't call it a trail, but more like a bridge to another beach. Not very well built, but we didn't die :) might be a bit unsafe for small children. Worth a walk, if you have 10 minutes to spare and are close by.

The "trail" was fine, but not in the best condition 😅 more like a walk on wood to the next beach. I think you should be careful with small children or if you are not sure on your feet, it is a bit crooked and slippery. Nothing special, but fine 🤷‍♀️

Such a "relaxing" hiking. There is no need to rush and enjoy the view. You'll reach the end point at the private beach within more or less 20 minutes. When I was there last week, I didn't across any monkey at all. You will need to register upon arrival and departure from the end point.

Right beside the beach. Trail is difficult and Makes you sweat. I found it way easier to wear sneakers over flip flops. Only gave it a 4 out of 5 because we didn’t see any monkeys 4/5 times. The one time we did the wait was so worth it. There were over 20 monkeys on the trail! Be careful around the smaller ones because the mom will jump onto you from up top in the tree. Saw it happen a couple times. We did see a monkey steal someone’s bag with a banana in it so keep that in mind.

A super cool little walk over a rock to a hidden beach. Sadöy they are builing a resort within the hidden beach and destroyed all the beautiful nature that was there before. But the beach is so lovely and the rocks sorounding it are stunning. Many different steps up and down. Be hood by foot.

Built upon wooden flat stairs going through the edge of the jungle with great view. The hike up is about a few minutes and we were lucky to see a big family of monkeys (50+). They were taking care of each other and also watching us. They were calm and not aggressive. However do not attempt to feed, touch or be aggressive towards them as they will attack for sure, they are real wild animals this is not a park. We were there at sunset and it is highly recommended. If you have a walking problem this trail is not suited

The beach is beautiful. It is also good to walk along the stairs because it leads to a beautiful bay. You should bring bananas to the monkeys (or buy them there) if you want to feed them. The monkeys are cute but be careful with them because they are very naughty. put all valuables in our bag because they like to steal!!

A short and easy 20min walk to get to the beach on the other side. Thankfully we didn’t see any monkeys. Such a narrow path I won’t know where to go if there were aggressive monkeys. There were lights along the way which I assumed will light up at night(?)

Fun trail. Lots of monkeys in the begining of the trail. Before all the stairs. Its a 10/15 min depending of how many people you encounter. Its easy and minimal effort. Yes its not in the best conditions but its free? And takes you to a beautiful beach.

Great trail that starts at the end of the beach by a small temple and passes around and over the headland to drop finally down to the beach and the Centara resort. The trail is fun although it’s narrow in places making it difficult when there’s lots of people. We saw plenty of monkeys at the entrance near the bridge but afterwards didn’t see many although we enjoyed the nice walk and views. Some of the wooden steps have broken or rotted away and some of the bamboo hand rails are broken or have come disconnected which should be fixed for safety for families but overall it’s a nice walk and good to get some great pics of the monkeys.

  • 5/5 Bob van V. 5 months ago on Google
An incredibly fun and short, 10 minute walk through the forest next to the beach. The route is constructed with wooden walkways and steps and a path reinforced with sandbags. We saw a lot of monkeys, They are not shy. One monkey stole the candy right out of our closed bag so be warned. Not very technical, but on a warm day it is a bit exhausting due to the heat.

  • 4/5 Reilly H. 6 months ago on Google
The stairs are quite rickety and VERY steep at points, would not recommend if you’re not stable on your feet. Although it’s a nice walk with some good views, and can stay on the beach to relax before you walk back the same way. Probably best to take some stable footwear with you, I was in slides and it wasn’t very stable or comfortable.

  • 5/5 Enric J. 4 months ago on Google
The trail brings you from one end of Ao nang beach to Pai plong beach. It is the only access (by foot) to this beach which is quieter and smaller. Watch out with the monkeys, they are super cute but the also like things in your pockets. The trail takes 10-15 min top and it can be done in flip-flops but be careful, some parts are quite steep.

A great place to move from the Centara Grand Hotel private beach to the most famous public beach - Ao Nang Beach. It has an extensive climb 🪜 on both sides of the trail. Once the climb is done and the plateau comes the main fun starts. There are a lot of wild monkeys which sit there and watch humans come and go. Usually they don't interfere with your routine until you try to touch them or interfere with their territory. The only thing which I didn't like was that some of the people moving on the trail were feeding the monkeys which is strictly prohibited 🚫🚭 there. It puts all the others at risk as I was attacked once when the money saw me carrying a package. It had medicines and all were lost because at least 30 of the monkeys came and took it away from me. I have put on a little time lapse videos to show how the trail is. My recommendation - if you want to travel in a natural, adventurous and fun way between the two beaches do use monkey trail as it is a good option for better health. I will not recommend this way for cardiac or patients of respiratory diseases or the ones who have fear of 🐒🐒🐒 s .

We went at 9am there were lots of monkeys. There were some people feeding them . Some of the big males were super aggressive. Definitely watch for the monkeys if you’re wearing a backpack as the associate backpacks with food. So they will jump on you if you’re not watching. Got great photos. We didn’t walk the trail. We just went to the entrance of the trail where the shrine is, a little bridge over the creek.

10 min of mostly up and down steps. The monkeys are mostly at the beginning of the trail. They don’t really come up to you if you don’t bother them which was something we were worried about after hearing stories of monkeys biting and stealing. Beautiful beach at the end of the trail.

Manage your expectations! It is a trail with a not very steady looking stairs and wobbly rails. It’s pretty steep and narrow, which can be a trouble when there’s traffic. View from the top is very nice. There are monkeys! They are not very friendly judging by their looks, and are not afraid of people at all, even the babies - they are not aggressive though. We were prepared they will try and steal something - we left our hats and sunglasses at the hotel, I covered my bag, but apparently monkeys know how to get water from a water bottle... so I was robbed of it. It was funny, but I was very grateful it wasn’t my phone.
