A very peaceful little town with little cafes and restaurants, a pier, an old ship and a lobster statue - a symbol of Koh Lanta’s Old Town. If you stay in Koh Lanta for a couple of days and have some spare time come and visit. Have a relaxing stroll along one Main Street and buy some souvenirs. And you can also shot great photos too)

What an interesting town or area, I guess would be a better term. A lot of Thailand had wooden structures but in the past years since World War II from what I understand, the wooden structures are now being built with or replaced with concrete and brick. This being a hot humid jungle with bugs that like to eat wood, it is a natural progression. Lanta Old Town still shows the old style construction techniques with wood and it felt like walking back in time. It is quaint and low-key and comfortable. The wood, of course, shows a lot of weathering and rotting but it is sort of kept up. There are lots of eateries there and it's an experience to walk out on the piers that the restaurants are made of and on and sit and have something to eat and watch the weather and the ocean and feel the old feel to the town. There is also a good size pier but overall there is an absence of coordinated upkeep for the whole area (typical, I will say) but definitely a good experience and my rating is 4 stars. It is worth the trip to visit and see what Thailand might have looked like around 1950 or so

Old Town is absolutely unique. It dates back up to 300 years when the Chinese came to trade with locals - many of them Sea Gypsies. For this reason, many of the old teak buildings are on stilts over the water. Many local craft shops & lovely little cafes. Not to be missed when visiting Lanta

You need to go Old Lanta Town. It’s beautiful with its souvenir stores, family restaurants, the jetty and Buddhist temples. Don’t miss the giant langouste, the pier with the ship wreck and the old lighthouse. It’s family friendly , there’s also a playground for the kids.

Removed from the hustle and busy north - west tip of the Koh Lanta Island with lots of stores, restaurants and cafes etc to visit abs also the old settlement further south in the town. Great half day visit or if you feel like exploring hop on the boat and travel to the near by islands The merchandise quality is lot better with wider selection and lower prices than the North side of the island We liked it so much that we went back couple of times. Driving, multiple ways to get there, the most enjoyable were the coastal Rd on the east side from the ferry turn off... Most interesting was the lower road that crossed over the island and ends up taking you on a winding steep road. There was a lots of road drainage construction by the old Town for maybe 5km making the ride little more interesting

Small street through the centre with plenty of restaurants and shops. One side of the street backs out on to the water so very good for sitting outside at a good restaurant. Ample parking for both cars and the ubiquitous scooter can be found near the pier. Scooters can be pretty much dumped anywhere. If you are on the west of the island this is defo worth a trip!

(Translated by Google) Great bridge with great open-air exhibition with cool works of art made of oceanic plastic waste during my visit (March 2020). The rest of the Altatstadt is more of a walk-in souvenir shop - at least the street with the renovated houses. The restaurants looked ok. (Original) Tolle Brücke mit zu meiner Besuchszeit (März 2020) toller Open-Air-Austellung mit coolen Kunstwerken aus ozeanischen Plastikmüll. Quite, small market, with places to eat and even (expensive) craft beer. Nice place to pick local apparel and handcraft (don't forget to haggle!). The long pier is surrounded by green waters and you can drive up to the very end

Motorbike to old town. Sleepy little town on water. Talked with shop owners who ate eager for tourists to come back. It's a 20 min ride from Koh Lanta west side. Beautiful ride through small villages.

Koh Lanta old town has managed to keep the atmosphere from the laid back days passed..this apparently was an important trade post with influence from towns and cultures along the trade route. Plenty of shops, cafe's and restaurants catering for the tourist but still the wife of old days😃

A short motorbike ride from the west side of the Island, but boy was it worth it. Loved Lanta old town, great charm and many excellent sea food restaurants with simply stunning views. Here for 2 weeks, will make sure we visit again. We'll worth the trip if you're on the Island

Beautiful old Chinese village, nice small shops in traditional Chinese style houses, not overcrowded, nice views on the sea to the east, impressing jungle on the hills to the west, a must-see on the island!

Lovely small town with good restaurants, local shops and street market on weekends. You'd love it here if you want to avoid busy area, a little bit far from the beaches. (The nearest beach is Klong Nin beach, 15 mins away by scooter.)

A little bit dead place. I believe before covid it was much more nicer place…You can still find here some nice places to eat and some working souvenirs shops.

We rented a home for the month in Old Town. This is a sleepy little spot with various shops and a fun market on the weekend. You can buy produce and all the basics. Old Town offers a different feel than the Andaman Sea side of Lanta.

  • 5/5 Peter L. 1 year ago on Google
A fun mix of markets including small souvenir shops, some nice home decor (Malee Malee Lanta Old Town for instance) and also restaurants and cultural displays. The shipwreck makes this amazing creaking noise with the waves, very much adds to the experience.

  • 5/5 Shell B. 1 year ago on Google
We went here a few times on our trip, the ambiance is great, there are so many great restaurants here, and tons of shops to explore. We got some fun souvenirs here and things we'd forgotten to bring on our trip, like sunglasses, and a good wallet for cash (which is essential on Lanta but not something I need at home). This is a great place to visit, with a lot to see!

We visited in the morning and at night too just to see how it looks during the whole day. So many yummy food here to try and for those looking for seafood restaurant, there is a lot of them here. Souvenier and lots of local food to try.

A really lovely part of Lanta. However when we visited on a Tuesday, 80% of the businesses appeared to be closed. Would suggest that a weekend (or high season?) visit would be more vibrant. Still had a great dinner on the pier

  • 5/5 Mariusz M. 11 months ago on Google
Koh Lanta's Old Town is not big - it's actually one street that you can walk from the start to the end in 2-3 minutes. I have to admit it has its charm. In the buildings on both sides of the street there are shops, as well as cafes and restaurants (the latter mainly facing the sea). The restaurants are located on stilts above the sea (they remind me of Hua Hin). It is worth to sit in one of them for lunch or dinner. There is a pier at the main car park at the entrance to the Old Town.

  • 5/5 Clive S. 5 months ago on Google
Don't just go here for a day trip. Stay a night or three or more. Laid back vibes from Lanta's old capital. Great places to eat and drink. No beach, so sit on a jetty overlooking the sea and slow down, relax and enjoy. Plus they've got a really big lobster.

  • 4/5 Aris P. 6 months ago on Google
Nice for a stroll and shopping (more reasonable prices that other places on the island). The pier has a stunning view of the sea & nearby islands and there's a cool shipwreck nearby.

So serene. Coming on week days. Only one to two tourists. Not many. I love the tranquility. Great island for honeymooners. I recommend staying at Lanta Sand Resort and choosing a Pool Access room. Thank me later.

Söpö kävelykatu, johon ajaa skootterilla puolessa tunnissa saaren toiselta laidalta. Kivoja kahviloita ja kojuja. Ehdottomasti käymisen arvoinen kohde vierailla. Harmittavan hiljaista, paikat kaipaisivat lisää turisteja!

Cute little seaside town full of antique homes and shops, mostly catered to tourists to explore about half an hour or so. We tried the seafood at one of the restaurants with a very nice view. The food itself was nothing to rave about.

We drove here with a scooter from the opposite side of the island, an easy drive. Arrived early as the shops were opening up and the town was peaceful and quiet. Spend a few hours walking down the main street, doing some shopping, having a delicious lunch and enjoyed the views from the swings placed on the terraces of most restaurants located by the water. We would recommend a visit here!

Really fascinating place and as its on the east coast often a lot cooler than the rest of the island. The sea is muddy brown and worlds away from the usual turquoise paradise beaches of Thailand but Old Town is a lot more to offer. The town has a lot of history and a great museum. Its used to be the main port for trade originally inhabited by sea gypsies. Its kept its Chinese roots going and feels very different to the rest of the island - and a lot cooler! Full of wooden shops and houses its a great place to take photos. Plenty of pier restaurants where you can walk out over the water and enjoy the views. Very chilled place, I'd suggest travelling there overland for an adventure if you have a sturdy bike. Saw some people coming ashore via the boats taxi's and it didn't look very pleasant!
