After visiting around 80% of Thailand islands and beaches this one was a disappointment. It is nice to walk but you have around 20 better beaches to visit in nearby islands . I don’t know who had the awful idea to plant pine trees all around Lanta , they are not for beaches around this zone. There is almost no shade and that makes it impossible to spend a day at the beach . Food prices are expensive for a soso beach . Probably the 5 star reviews are from people that don’t really move around looking for the best place and settle where they land .

As the name suggests, a very long stretch of sand facing west toward the Andaman Sea and Indian Ocean. Visited in March 2016 and really loved the chilled out atmosphere and amazing sun sets. Re-visited in June 2022 and although still thoroughly enjoyed our stay here, it was sad to see most of the restaurants and bars shut (not sure if this is always the case in low season or whether it is Covid induced). As a result the beach does get quite full of rubbish, particularly toward the northern end. On the positive side, we did spot sea eagles and many, many hermit crabs along the beach which was nice. If you are staying at one of the handful of resorts that is still open (e.g. Long Beach Chalets) it is still a lovely experience - hopefully it will recover fully during the next high season.
