Poorly maintained airport, dirty toilets and floors. Birds enter from different parts of it. No Free Duty shops. One café with the worst coffee that exists and the worst food in the universe. The immigration isn’t hospitable nor it is polite to you or anyone (local or foreigner). Customs ask for bribes, they would say: since you’re leaving the country, give us any local currency you have left. Or they would ask you for money, things like: give us money to buy a pack of cigarettes.

It's a newly constructed airport situated around 35 km from the Nouakchott town. Public have already started damaging it, could find cigarette buds , food waste , broken table .. in the first floor lobby.. While waiting to board the flights there was several momentary power loss.. There are many guys waiting in the entrance of airport to help u hold the bags..The check-in and immigration went on smoothly. After immigration there is a security check, the officer on duty wanted to search my bags for currency, he opened up all compartments of my bag and searched for US dollars and Euros.. This was a bad experience..

New airport ✌️ Visa process is fast but a little expensive ($65 for non-Arabic - 23000 Mauritanian Ouguiya and $40 for Arabic - 14000 Mauritanian Ouguiya) But it's a little far to city center (30km) You should be consider the distance planning your trip. There is no public transportation and I didn't see any taxi around the airport.

Unlike any airport I’ve ever been to — please crackdown on the numerous airport employees asking for bribes, including your customs officials, simply to take a domestic flight. It is completely unnecessary.

Looks like corrupted immigration officers, and doesn't support tourism.

Visa process was a little time consuming but overall good experience upon entering......the worst possible experience for the rest of the duration of this miserable and disturbing country. Every single employee at the airport constantly pestering for bribes. They easily turn a blind eye to dangerous security issues at the airport for a small bribe. Everything in this country is terribly expensive, more expensive than America and probably the lowest quality imaginable. Everything is filthy and falling apart and no one cares or even makes an attempt to clean or improve anything. Food poisoning, bribes, theft, lying, modern slavery is prelevant and common. This country gives Africa a bad reputation. I could literally go on for days but I will stop here. Don't just reconsider traveling to this country... just do yourself a favor and don't go, it will be a part of your life you will never get back. Disgusting country. If I could give 0 🌟 I would.

Stayed at NKC for a layover and very poorly maintained. Employees sit and smoke cigarettes inside the airport and if you don’t speak Arabic or French good luck, you will have a very hard time communicating with them. The mosque is nicely built quiet and clean. Airport cafe also respectful employees, gave us the Wi-Fi code and some snacks as well. Overall, the employees at the cafe made my experience better.

Airport is far from the city and has not a single cafe or shop airside or landside. There is a lounge for business class/elite passengers though which was quite unexpectedly nice with coffee and breakfast in the morning when I flew. Upon arrival the visa process was simple enough (bring cash though) and we had no trouble with immigration coming or leaving.

A recently renovated airport that still has some parts of it in construction. It has a nice look from both outside and inside. Due to covid-19 some facilities are closed, so this review contains only information accurate for June 2021. FACILITIES In the land zone there are booths for most airlines that are flying out of NKC, but which are open just around the flights they operate. There is no open coffee shop or duty free in neither air nor land sides of the airport. The lavatories are kept in good condition and antiseptic gel can be found in most places around the airport. There is no free Wi-Fi available at the airport. TRANSPORTATION Being located in the middle of the desert at around 60km from NKC it has no public transportation available, so I private transfer must be arranged or one can get a taxi at the exit of the airport. One way to the city should cost around 20$, with little possibility of bargain. Hitchhiking may be an option, but with very low rates of success. IMMIGRATION Visa on arrival can be processed directly at the airport and takes around 3-5 minutes. Only the passport and the processing fee (in cash) of 60$/55€ is required. Most travelers need a visa, so entering the customs first may save up to 1h, as usually there are only 2-3 booths opened for visa processing. Once the visa is obtained, the actual customs must be passed. Here one needs the hotel/host confirmation and return flight ticket(s). Not all officers speak good French and almost none speaks English, so there may be lots of misunderstanding which can lead to longer processing time. A random sample of non-ECOWAS passengers may be taken for interrogation and (indirectly) asked for bribes. Bribing is still illegal in the country. Good luck!
