This is the worst place we have been in Malaysia, due to the behavior of the owner. We arrived to stay for two nights and when we checked in, we were only charged for one night. This was not a problem for us, as we sometimes extend our stay to enjoy the places we visit, and pay for everything when we leave. The problem arose when we finally managed to fall asleep, as the noise and music from the bar upstairs was constant and intense, and the walls were thin. The owner came to our room at midnight while we were sleeping, banging on the door because we hadn't paid for the second night. Really? What was the need to do this at midnight? Can't we sort it out in the morning? Then, at 7 something in the morning, the owner came to our room again waking us up, quite agitated and banging on the door, asking when we were going to pay. This led to a heated argument between both parties (including myself): The owner: "This is Malaysia! These are our policies! And I am Malay! Here, you pay first, etc.." speaking on behalf of all of Malaysia and all Malaysians (not Hindus or Chinese, you understand..), as if this justifies all that had happened. Me: Angry and still sleepy from the lack of rest in this hostel, seeking explanations for why they had to wake us up at these hours and behaving like an angry person, matching his attitude. In the end, we made a scene at reception, which I am ashamed of. I suppose the owner likes to create this kind of atmosphere in his business. I don't know what he is afraid of with the fact that we wanted to stay one more night. The hostel wasn't full, and in the past months in this beautiful country, many hostels prefer that we pay on the day of check-out and we have never had any problems, in Malaysia and all over the world. I have never experienced anything like this in any hostel, in any country, and with owners of many nationalities, even "Malaysians". It is clear that we do not recommend this place. I also have no choice but to apologize for my angry and upset behavior that morning.

First - CHECK your booking. The staff tried Charging us tourist tax even though we had paid it already in our booking. They will try this with all who check in. They were insistent we should pay it and it took an argument to prove them wrong. A bad start. Gullible tourists will just hand over the money. The hostel has a lack of amenities no cups or tea or coffee. The hot water machine was faulty, so unable to make our own hot drinks. Wi - fi was extremely unreliable. When reporting the fault the lady who was ever so insistent about getting her tourist tax, didn’t seem to care about sorting the water out. Rooms adjacent to the road are noisy day and night. Rooms adjacent to the main staircase are flooded with noise from the cheesy roof top bar at night. It’s a fairly modern and minimal space and close to train station and in Chinatown.

Pros: cheap compared with neighbouring hotels, great location in China town & next to the transport lines. Aircon works well, cold water & hot water (when it works). Cons: due to single glazing rooms next to the main road are very loud with traffic, music, general city noises. If staying in a room with no window the rooms are extremely small & dark. If staying near the stairs you can hear music, singing, furniture being moved all night from 9pm-2am. Communal bathrooms were cleaned daily but toilet roll still ran out and there was hair in the shower. Rooms didn’t get cleaned whilst there & towels did not get changed. The hotel staff tried to keep tourist tax we paid online but again on arrival when we questioned it which caused unnecessary friction when in the booking it stated “already collected”. We also felt she was not interested when she was found to be wrong. Hot water machine is hit & miss, when asked to fix it we were told that they didn’t know how and that was that, no solution made or even an attempt to find someone who did know how to fix it. No cutlery, cups or tea / coffee to accompany the hot water machine.

Senja Hostel in Kuala Lumpur is a nice place, but unfortunately my stay there was marred by a few problems. Firstly, the air conditioning in our room was broken, which made the room too cold at 16 degrees, or too hot if we turned it off. We asked for it to be fixed, but were told that there was no solution, as the air conditioning was broken. However, the biggest problem was the noise. From 6am, there were loud noises in the room, as if someone was drilling. This continued until approximately noon, making it impossible for guests to sleep. When we asked the staff about the noise, we were told that they couldn't do anything about it, which was very disappointing. Despite these problems, the hostel itself is nice. The rooms are clean and comfortable, and the location is convenient. However, the noise and broken air conditioning made my stay less enjoyable than I had hoped. In summary, if you stay at Senja Hostel in Kuala Lumpur, be prepared for noise and make sure to check that everything in your room is functioning properly.

There are places in life where you wish to return, and 'Senja hostel' is definitely not one if them. When we just came in, we were greeted by a cheerful sound of loud argument of the Philippine receptionist with one of the customers. That sound, as we were about to find out, was quite constant in the place, which is already quite noisy itself. So, I do recommend you to stay in Senja hostel if you wish to hear all kinds of noises - outside music at 1 am, beeping vehicles throughout the day and night, the noises of stuff shouting at the customers - the choice is yours. Honestly speaking, I thought this cup would pass from us, but I was so wrong. I had all the pleasure to fully experience the scam they pull in the hostel. I am sure anyone can have a similar experience, just follow these easy instructions: - ask at the reception for a travel adapter. - pay 40 MYR for three pieces (that's how many we needed for the family). Keep wondering why the price is so high and is not divided into three. Listen to the receptionist tell you they would give you everything back when it's time for you to check out. They are still so polite and smiling at that stage, but they won't give you any note or receipt. Nothing to prove that you gave them your money. The cameras stop working at that moment. - after 2 weeks of stay bring back the adapters and expect the stuff to give you back your 40 MYR. Watch how amazingly short is the memory of these people - they will give you 10 MYR instead of 40. What is more, you will have extraordinary cultural experience at that point - they will call you all kinds of insults, "a lier, dishonest, too young to have an opinion". These people are not ashamed to use obsolete words and mention God and police in vain when talking to their customers. - as you have noticed, the whole attraction will cost you mere 30 MYR. Enjoy your stay! PS This place is full of surprises, so your personal experience with these people might be somewhat different - say, they may steal a larger amount of you, or will think of another way to scam you, so please be careful and always ask for a receipt (which I doubt they would give you).

Staff is nice and professional. Lobbys are spacious and clean. Rooms also nice, but walls thin and if you get a window room its gonna be noisy. The noise from people during night and street is very loud. But that's not the hotels fault.

Clean and modern hostel in a great location next to metro, central market and petaling street. Staff were very friendly and accommodating. The only issues were a smell on our floor, kind of like cat pee, and nighttime noise. The rooms have no sound insulation, you will hear everything from the next room.. snoring, talking, music. The hostel has a midnight-7am quiet policy but unfortunately some people ignore it.

Gross. Out of the 3 showers only 1 functions properly. Only 1 sink for the whole floor. Of the 3 toilets only 2 worked (they were both gross) don't be deceived by the nice pictures. The location is the only good thing abouth the place. Toilets en showers did not get cleaned once in the 3 days we were here.

Overall great backpacker atmosphere/location. Walking distance to most things (Chinatown, Petronas towers, bar scene) with other things located way outside the city and a quick/cheap grab away. Common area is great with beer out of a vending machine that was used frequently. Showers and bathrooms clean they provide shampoo and shower gel inside the showers. Towels/mattresses standard hotel quality. Front staff was great and friendly. Rooftop Bar was cool.

PROS: - Fast wifi. 100mbps+ - Generally a pretty quiet hostel. - Strong AC in each room. - Central Chinatown location and walking distance to markets and cafes. - Rooftop hangout area - but limited power sockets. CONS: - Staff unclear about tourist tax. Agoda refunded me the tourist tax since the reception demanded tourist tax upon arrival - despite booking including all taxes and fees. - People competing for space in the shared bathrooms. - Advertised room had a desk and chair, but was told this is not possible upon check in. - Room was windowless.

Fine for a night or two, but much less modern than the pictures suggest once you get beyond the reception area - the third floor bathroom is missing part of the ceiling, for example. Seems like a work in progress.

We stayed 4 nights in the hotel in a room of 4, first floor, with a direct view to the strict Important points for future customers: Positive points: -Location: very well located, in the heart of Chinatown -Cleanliness: Bathrooms and toilets are shared but were regularly cleaned. Our room was tidy - Common areas are clean - Quality of the bedding: The room was not too small and the beds were ok -Cheap: I recommend it for young travelers, student groups Drawbacks: -Noisy: Even though the living room is quiet, we did not have double glazing. With a room facing the street, at night it was hard to sleep because of the noise originating from outside the building (cars, trucks, music…). We also had A/C noise -No wifi: no good at all!! -Receptionist issues: We heard about poor relationship between the 2 desk receptionists workers. In term of welcoming, it affected our journey

First of all, there is no rooftop terrace as suggested in the pictures. We were told it was closed until "maybe next month, I don't know". So please! If there is no terrace, at least REMOVE those pictures from the booking site! It is dishonest and misleading. Also, there was this strong, terrible chemical smell in the room that made it hard to breath. Wifi was barely working in the rooms, only in the reception area. Please invest in a cheap extender, available on Lazada for RM20. Hot water dispenser does not work.

I enjoy my 5-day stay here. The rooftop bar is chill, and you can actually work remotely in the evening here, like I do. The room is very clean. The bathroom is clean enough for me. But one thing I’d like to mention is that the room card doesn’t work very well. I have changed the card 2 times and thankfully all the staffs are very happy to help me. And the third card I got is actually only for the gate. I have to input the password for 3rd floor manually. It doesn’t cause many troubles to me honestly. However, when I returned the card on the last day, the staff asked me to return the card for 3rd floor. I have exactly no clues. And she told me if I couldn’t I have to pay for it. Fortunately, the owner was there, and told me it’s ok. I still give a 5-star because I do feel good during my stay. But I have just a small suggestion to the staff, things like this need to be clarified first before you asked me to pay. That’s not a proper way in my opinion. And I hope you guys can have a successful business there. I truly do.

Nice place I love the ambience. It's more suitable to backpackers travellers and budget travellers. I stayed with my 2 friends the dorm beds were great. They were newly opened. The important things is it's clean. The internet was super fast. Best thing is that they have access to the rooftop bar and was really cool to hang out in the night. Overall I was happy with my stay. Keep up the momentum guys. Would come back again.
