Highly recommend a visit here if you're visiting KL. It's not usually on the itinerary of KL tours but this place is interesting to learn about how pewter is mined and made into beautiful pieces that are both functional & artistic. There is no entrance fees and you will be guided by either an English speaking or Mandarin speaking guide. The tour itself is a good 1-hour. After that you may decided to take one of the workshop activities for a fee. The nearby cafe also serves delicious tea, cakes & ice cream and is a welcome sight to soothe your tired legs.

2022.12.18 no entrance fee required. we reached around 11.40am on Sunday. That time not many visitors. We are able to get in without waiting. but after we went in not more than 30min, they are quite a number of visitors came inclusive 2 -3 tourist bus came. quite informative with this factory tour and worth it. they are many products display here. all are very fine and of course pewter items are not cheap. but if you like it , worth to get it directly from this visitor center. strongly recommend to visit here.

A great experience. I went on the free factory tour. You get to learn a lot and see the process. After this tour l, you would understand why their products are expensive. Because it's all handmade..

This was the highlight of the trip to Kuala Lumpur for us. We started with the free guided tour of the company history and factory floor as well as crafting methods with complimentary cold isotonic drinks provided. The tour terminates in the large gift shop and we signed up for both the workshops, School of Hard Knocks and Foundry. It was really fun having hands-on experience with molten pewter and making our own accessories. The gift shop is huge and Royal Selangor has collaborations with all the popular franchises like Marvel, Star Wars and Disney along with their own beautiful creations so you’ll definitely find something you love there. The service we received from the guides during our workshops were also top notch, very accommodating and knowledgeable. Highly recommend this for all ages!

Royal Selangor Visitor Centre, provides you perfect opportunity to witness the producer & product manufacturer of Pewter based products ...Royal Selangor. Pewter is an alloy of Sn, Cu and Sb. At the visitor centre the guide would speak about the history , process of production and how moulding, filing , polishing are done. It is wonderful experience for a visitor to witness all this right in front of his/ her eyes. Last but not the least, you could also visit the Retail Gallery for buying Royal Selangor's products.

Really good place to learn about pewter item manufacturing process. The general visit tour is FREE. The counter will give you a touring device (like a walkie talkie) with multiple languages option for your visit. You just have to walk from checkpoint to checkpoint and listen to the narratives. There's also a station that serve you soft drinks in pewter cup during your visit. Super cool! The tour would take around 1-2 hours in general. Parking is widely available in the area. If you'd like to experience the actual knocking and experience process by hand, there are packages (with payment) available in School of Hard Knocks. These are the extra activity.

Worth the trip to Royal Selangor Pewter factory attraction visit. It's a total free tour with English or Chinese guide to the historical pewter museum then factory. First register at the reception and wait for the language respective tour guide to gather at a specific time. There is a nice cafe at the lobby below the museum. There are 2 paid pewter making experience for anyone that wanted to try. We tried the hard knocking per person RM75 with the knocking experience and also the plate souvenir from your hard work it is also a great team building activities as well.

The Royal Selangor Visitor Centre of Kuala Lumpur, located in Setapak Jaya, provides guided tours of world’s foremost pewter crafts and manufacturing company. The visitor centre introduces one to the world of pewter through sight touch and sound.A modern glass-clad foyer set within scenic lush landscape, the Royal Selangor Visitor Centre displays traditional pewtersmithing tools, antique pewter and ancient tin currency at the Pewter Museum. Large chimes and bells can be struck in the Chamber of Chimes, while The Hall of Frames decked with an impressive collection of pewter photo frames is where one can witness the manufacturing process.

Royal Selangor is a place worth visiting. The guided tour is free. There got in mandarin and English. You can learn about the history and how to make pewter. In addition, there are workshops for you to learn to make your own pewter accessory. After the guided, you can buy the pewter accessory at the hall. Beside that got a cafe to take a break.

Malayan Pewter, Selangor Pewter Malaya, Selangor Pewter Malaysia, Selangor Pewter, Royal Selangor Pewter - The evolution and history of what is today famously known as Royal Selangor is just some of the takeaways you will come to be familiar with after completing the guided tour at the Royal Selangor Visitor Centre. Tucked away in the suburbs of Setapak, Kuala Lumpur, this venue effecfively simultaneously achieves being a museum, a manufacturing factory, an exhibition centre and souvenir shop. The interior is very well kept (including bathrooms) and our guided tour experience (which I highly recommend) led by the impressive Ravi left us with a deeper awareness of Royal Selangor's rich history and a great deal of appreciation for the level of craftsmanship that goes into their pewter products; the vast majority are molded and created by hand. Swing by on weekdays to see more of the factory in action. With parking fees skyrocketing in shopping malls and crowd levels returning to pre-pandemic times, the Royal Selangor Visitor Centre is a fantastic alternative for both tourists and locals alike. The guided tour (or self guided if you prefer) and parking is free and the cafe inside serves up good food at reasonable prices. Growing up in the 90s, the Royal Selangor brand was synonymous with pricey goods and the pride of the nation. Fast forward to today and upon spending time at the souvenir shop, you can definitely find many practical items at various price points. Pop culture based pewter such as Marvel, Harry Potter, Disney, Star Wars and others are definitely worth checking out while sister companies Comyns and Selberan cater to more upscale clientele. As with most companies, I can't imagine how badly Royal Selangor was impacted by the pandemic and I hope they're able to find their feet again. With almost 150 years of history to their name, I hope this family owned business can still thrive and uphold their quality over time. This visitor center is a good way to showcase the best of Malaysia and exceeded my expectations. I'd easily recommend checking out this place.

Enjoyed a tour of the Pewter Factory. Our tour guide spoke English and gave really good explanation of how everything is made. Took a bowl making class, really fun workshop Incase you need to de-stress and hammer something. Don’t forget to shop around. You can arrange free transportation ahead of time on their website.

Nice and chill place to go with your partner or family. Went on a Saturday after lunch. There's a tour guide for every group of people. Not crowded and entrance was free. Even provided free 100plus to drink from a pewter cup which was cool. Learned a lot since there's a science center about pewter. Got to see the actual process of the workers making the actual art which was cool. Would come back for their pewter making class.

Very good place to visit. It's especially nice if you love some geeky figures and small statues. I went through in with a half day tour, and it was enough to inform me, but it would have been fun if I was in the factory too (I was during lunch time). The guide was very good and spontaneous, which feels welcoming if you visit. She was well informed and was able to answer any questions.

My first time visit here. So when we arrived, there is a tour guide who approached us (a family of four), gave us a visitor sticker and explain on the guide tour here. Then she brought us inside the museum to tell the history of Royal Selangor and how a pewter is made. Finally, she leave us to wander around the sales gallery and cafe. Overall is a great experience. Thumbs up 👍👍👍👍👍

They also have a tour about their history of making pewter products upstairs. I reccomend everyone to atleast join their class, very straightforward and easy to understand. Very good experience here ♥️👍

Went on a private tour here. My tour guide, Melody, was very knowledgeable, friendly, and spoke perfect English. I learned a lot about pewter here (didn't even know about it prior to visit!). It was cool to learn the history, and see its manufacturing process. And in the gift shop, I totally geeked out as they have several Marvel/DC/Star Wars pewter products 🤓 That was the greatest surprise of the day!

Such brilliant history, as well as craftsmanship. You'll be amazed by the range as well as the quality of their products. They have even produced 11 of the F1 winning trophies for Malaysian F1 Grand Prix, including the mast one in 2017.

Very kids friendly place. Love the free English speaking guide tour of the history and factory operations with live demonstrations. I've signed up for the half hour workshop "school of hard knocks " from their website and really happy to have made our own pewter ice cream bowl under guidance. The lunch at their cafe okay for their pasta. Didn't like their Chinese noodles, they have different Chinese dish every day of the week. Bought the limited edition Iron Man statue from the store. very pricey but worth it as they only make 300 of these. (#67 of #300) Super kids friendly place, the staff were happy with our kids to touch everything and let me snap as much photos as I want. Very rare customer service in a luxury store like this. Will definitely go again on our next visit to KL

Wander through intriguing museum exhibits and witness real-time pewter crafting and end your tour with hands-on pewtersmithing workshops. Explore the events that will put you in the thick of the tin rush in colonial Malaya, and the founding in 1885 of Royal Selangor, maker of the world’s finest pewte.

What a fun and interesting place! It does take a bit of a drive to get to if you're staying in the centre of KL. It is one of the world's premier and largest pewter factories. It creates unique and pristine pieces for such brands as Star Wars, Marvel, DC and Harry Potter. Not only is there a museum on site where you can learn about its extensive history, you can also see the pieces being made on the factory flore and make your own! The School of Hard Knocks was such a gimmick, but so fun. You get to make your own bowl. There are many options for tours though. There is also an ok café on site to get something to eat.

Love the well curated tour by Joyce. The tour is free by the way. You can just walk in for the tour and it is definitely a kid friendly tour. We were informed on the historical facts over the mining industry and the establishment of the Royal Selangor. Then we also got to know some scientific facts about the pewter. The science section was fun and got few hands on activities and photo spot. Then we were brought up to the factory. We were briefed on the process, casting, polishing, buffing..we also got to try to do some design using the hammer which is not easy at all Next we paid RM180 for a session at the foundry workshop incl of lunch. This workshop not suitable for kids esp during the casting part as we will be working with melted pewter. Alternatively can sign up for activity at School of Hard Knock, where you will shape a piece of pewter flat into a small bowl. The cost should be around RM65 per pax, not sure whether same price for kids or not. The workshop was fun. The instructor, Azree thought us the basic and then let us freely worked with the melted pewters. Using cast is easy, but to design freehand is otherwise. Hahaha. We were thought how to polish and buff our creations before finally we turn them either into locket or key chain. Each pax can bring back up to 3 creations, either 3 from the mould or 2 mould product plus one own freehand product. And on top of that we got an alphabet keychain too. After lunch, we took photos with the largest pewter tankard nearby the lobby. Overall it was enjoyable experience and a good activity for the family. As for us this is somehow like a continuation chapter after our visit to the Tanjung Tualang Tin Dredge No 5 early this year.

We had a thoroughly enjoyable day here. All of the staff were both friendly and helpful. The tour was really interesting and it didn't take long to learn the skill that is involved in what they produce. We spent hours in the foundry making trinket souvenirs, followed by a delicious lunch. There are a lot of expensive items in the shop, but look around and it's certainly possible to find yourself a bargain. Staff in the shop tend to follow you around, which can be irritating, but they always seem to be ready to throw a discount in your direction.

Recently visited the Royal Selangor Visitor Centre, hoping to relive the enjoyable experience I had over 10+ years ago. However, my recent visit left much to be desired. Upon arrival, I was greeted by a guide whose lousy speakers made it difficult to hear in the noisy environment. Despite voicing our concerns, the guide continued to speak rapidly, disregarding the needs of the visitors under his guidance. To add to the chaos, another guide clashed with loud, sharp voices nearby, further disrupting the experience. The premises looked poorly maintained, lacking the charm and appeal I remembered. The dull atmosphere dampened any enthusiasm I had to explore and shop at the retail section. I found the inclusion of Marvel statues to be puzzling and irrelevant, detracting from the overall experience. Couldn't help but notice the poor working conditions for the staff. The environment lacked ventilation, and I questioned if there were functioning air conditioners for their comfort. It's disappointing that the Royal Selangor Visitor Centre seems to have lost its allure over the years. I wouldn't recommend it unless it's an essential part of the Batu Caves tour. In conclusion, the Royal Selangor Visitor Centre requires significant improvements in various aspects to provide a more enjoyable and memorable experience for its visitors.

Can gold and silver plate pewter. Beautiful things and expensive. The outside of Petronas Tower is clad pewter. Very interesting and worthwhile tour.

Visited KL for 3 days. We made sure and this over 100 year old facility was recommended to us. I was with my wife and 3 children. Our driver dropped us at entry where we were asked about our nationality for surveying purposes then escorted by a guide. The tour took around 1 hour. The guide was super friendly and spoke good English. The tour was also very educational for us and the kids alike explaining the full history of the factory. The kids were give a small questionnaire so they made sure they listened to all the details to get their answers right. The factory tour was based in stages representing the tin manufacturing process. The tour ended at their exhibition floor where they were many ornaments on display. They were really awesome but SUPER EXPENSIVE!. Hence the 4 stars.

Throughout our time in KL The Royal Selangor Pewter Museum & Factory kept popping up on lists of sites to see. We were not expecting it to be much of anything, so put it at the bottom of our list. Since we had no other plans for our last day we did a “package”multi-stop day tour. The Royal Selangor Museum & Factory was included. We are so glad that we did not miss it. Unlike the batik and chocolate factories that we also visited on our last day, the Royal Selangor is actually a fun and informative tour. It is not “just” excuse to try to sell you pewter. The factory tour is beautifully designed. There are many examples of pewter through the ages. We learned about pewter, the history and processes of pewter making, and the company. Our delightful guide Hannah was very knowledgeable and friendly and keenly answered all of our questions. We saw the factory itself, watched pieces being made, and were able to try our hands at hammering a dimpled pattern on a cup. It is much more difficult than it looks. Yes, at the end there is a showroom filled with (too) many tempting pieces of pewter and silver. But there is no hard sell. The Royal Selangor Factory also has a cute little coffee shop/ snack bar. We decided to order a quick lunch. The prices were very reasonable. We had a salmon panini . I have never seen a sandwich piled so high with smoked salmon. It was delicious as was the basil pesto and mozzarella panini. Both sandwiches came with a salad. Don’t forget to head to a courtyard near the front entrance to take a picture with the Giant Tankard, a massive pewter mug, which made it into the Guinness Book of World Records. The tour of the Royal Selangor was one of the highlights of our time in KL.

I had a great visit here and the staff were truly fantastic. I did the 'Hard Knocks' workshop which was great...made a dish and you keep the dish, apron and get a certificate. The tour was informative but not the type to overload you with long and unnecessary information. The food in the cafe was excellent - had roast chicken and the gravy was the best I have had in Malaysia! I cannot express too much how great the staff were! It has been a slow time for them following the MCO, but they were attentive, pleasant and gentle (even though they were clearly trying to encourage me to spend money!) and took time to chat. I would highly recommend this and if you haven't been for a while, now is a good time to support them by visiting for lunch in the cafe if nothing else.

Surprisingly informative and interesting. There's a small museum of pewter artifacts that date back couple hundred years. If you're coming, you have to book yourself a slot at the School of Hard Knocks, where you can craft a pewter bowl on your own and get to bring that home. The factory tour is open on weekends, but the pewter craftsmen won't be there. You can still get to see how the pewter is crafted at the stations though. Recommended to do tours on weekdays There's also a cafe that serves really good food and a retail corner. Prepare to spend around 3 to 4 hours if you're doing the tour and hard knocks.

Established in 1885, Royal Selangor has deemed the maker of the world’s finest pewter. Upon entering, you’ll be greeted by a modern glass-clad foyer set within scenic lush landscaping. The best part is you can take the most Instagrammable shot here, with the world’s largest giant tankard which recognised by the Guinness World of Records! Royal Selangor continuously pushes the boundaries of design while staying true to their craftsmanship. You can wander through their museum and gallery to see all their designs! For those up to the challenge, you can try hammering a pewter sheet to get a feel of the process. This is where you can learn everything about pewter.

Royal Selangor continuously pushes the boundaries of design while staying true to their craftsmanship and you can head down to their Visitor Centre to learn everything about pewter. You can wander through their museum and gallery to see all their designs! The Petronas Twin Towers is high and mighty with an impressive height of 9.1 metres, the Guiness World Records-worthy Giant Tankard, a wall full of handprints, and many more in their showrooms! Aside from that, there are real-time pewter crafting and workshops available for you to participate!

Join the free guided tour with my family, we were served by Tracy, a mandarin speaking guide who is very friendly and knowledgeable. The tour is really fun and informative as we get to visit the museum to learn about the history and look at the preserved pewter. The Science Discovery Gallery allowed us to play along as well. The most memorable experience is the Live Craftmanship Showcase which we were able to watch how the well-trained pewtersmiths craft each products (and we also have the chance to try on!). This is definitely a must-visit place in Selangor!

Definitely a place to bring foreign friends to come here. The muzium tour are free. It's really really good. Can also pay to do your own pewter handcraft item to bring back. We only came for the tour and it was first time. Really recommended to come here. Probably could bring the children and do their own handcraft work.

Try the foundry class, they allow us to bring back the pewter we made. Learn how to craft something small and simple. Really enjoy the class and the history of royal selangor. End up bought some gift for parents at the souvenier shop. Thanks Cloee and Hafiz

Royal Selangor factory is a place where you not only appreciate art and handcraft skills at it best but also the history of KL and Ipoh. The place is very pleasant, the displays are excellent and we really enjoyed the Tour with Melody. The demonstration, workshops are fun and very enlightening about how difficult making this pewter pieces are. The cafe has a very nice atmosphere and the food is good. I reccomend this place to everyone that happens to be in KL

My tour guide, melody is kind and friendly, always answers our questions with patience. It was fun making a pewter bowl for the first time! I would highly recommend this if you want to learn and make pewter.

A very special place that is suitable for all family members to visit and the guide was very welcoming with free entry. It is a historical trip to the tin industry in Malaysia, but the prices of the products are very expensive. If you want try crafting some product, you have to pay 75 rm per person.

  • 5/5 Jaja G. 2 years ago on Google
Great place to learn more and shop for Royal Selangor goods. There's an insightful free tour, a sales gallery and also a cafe.. Went for one of the themed weekend at their cafe to try the food by White Smoke Grill & bar.. The food was exceptional and definitely worth a try. This shop is based in Penang and they came down this weekend just for this collaboration with Royal Selangor..

A lovely experience! They have their guided tours that are free but they also have two options for paid workshops. We did The School of Hard Knocks(RM75 per person) in which you make a small bowl and this is something even children can do. The Foundry workshop is for those 15 and up and you'll create a more intricate item.

What a great experience! A fantastic preservation of the history of Royal Selangor, learnt its humble beginnings and about its forward thinking founder, and can imagine the hardships he had to go through. Never been prouder of one of our national heritages. The School of Hard Knocks was an experience like no other as well. Likely to come back for the jewellery making side of things too

  • 5/5 Auldrick B. 2 years ago on Google
This came as part of a tour package but I was pleasantly surprised. The short guided tour was full of information but not overwhelmingly so. The guide was very charismatic and kept things interesting all the way. Seeing the processes at work, getting to interact with the people and items, including a hands on trial of one of the steps really made the experience come alive and gave us an appreciation of the work involved and the uniqueness of each piece.

  • 5/5 Lennox C. 1 year ago on Google
TIPs: It’s free of charge taking the tour around the small museum and the factory! There is a nice cafe serving food there. So we plan our trip and dine in there. Also, there are workshop (30-60mins) for kids / adult to experience the making of own designed pewter(chargeable). We visited Royal Selangor Visitor Centre a couple of times. Constantly improving our visiting experience! Now with earphone and Wi-Fi aided device for explanation throughout the tour. The museum shows the history of RS in a glance and also some interesting fact about pewter. It takes us around 1 hour plus for the museum and factory tour.

Beautiful crafts available there. Tour is detailed with history and art making process. You can try your hands in them as well. Doesn't take much of a time to complete the tour though. Place is very neat and clean. But bathrooms don't have western toilet.

Very nice building containing old pewter artefacts & exhibits of historical company milestones. Choose from human guided tours or museum audio guides at own pace. Their cafe offers good quality meals & beverages. Do enrol in their workshops to create your own pewter artefacts as DIY souvenirs.

  • 5/5 Steve L. 1 year ago on Google
Free entry, very nice experience with a friendly guide who gave very detailed tour in the history of Royal Selangor and the process of making the pewter products You can also enjoy hands on workshop (need to pay) to make and take home your own pewter thing. There is a cafe inside the visitor center, I didn’t try any food or drinks but the prices look reasonable (around RM20 for pasta and RM7-8 for coffee) If you’re an F1 fan, they actually made a few trophies for the Malaysian and Chinese Grand Prix, and is on display in the souvenir shop.

  • 5/5 Robi B. 9 months ago on Google

Our family visit to the Royal Selangor Visitor Centre in June 2023 was a brilliant blend of learning, crafting, and tasty treats. The tour, led by the knowledgeable and warm Ms Chan, provided us with a seamless and insightful journey into the world of pewter. A standout experience was the "Schools of Hard Knocks" workshop, excellently facilitated by Mr Hafiz. His guidance allowed our children to craft their own pewter bowls, which was both educational and fun, making the experience truly unforgettable. Even with so much to offer, the tour fits conveniently into a 1-2 hour slot, making it a perfect day trip for all ages. We wrapped up our visit at The Cafe, where we enjoyed delicious coffee and pastries, the perfect end to a memorable day. Overall, the Royal Selangor Visitor Centre proved to be an ideal family destination with great educational activities and delicious food. We're already excited for our next visit and highly recommend it to others!

  • 5/5 Colin T. 11 months ago on Google
Paid a visit by courtesy of the star wars malaysia fan club. Royal selangor hosted the club in conjunction with the 40th anniversary of return on the jedi, and organised star wars wayang kulit show and a tryout at their school of hard knocks. The souvenier knock out bowls were star wars themed - a choice of yoda, stormtrooper or darth vader - definitely collectible as you knock your name into the bowl. A huge hans solo in carbonite statue too - with a chance to win some prizes if they make their way to social media. The tour of the factory was also very good. Lots of details with actual demonstrations of how wares are made. They served icy-cold 100plus in their mini pewter mugs too halfway into the factory - a very kind gesture. If you're good with your hands, you may also have a go at smelting, forming, polishing and knocking out a souvenier for yourself - it's chargeable but worth it. The kids and i tried our hands at the hard knock school - they loved it much. And we were joined by 'the armourer' and some mandalorian, naturally - this is the way. Womderful visit!

This is a Malaysian pride yeah. Must visit and feel proud that this is now a world class brand. The company treats their staffs very well. I spoke to a few who continued working because the boss was very good man. At the end of visit one can also buy the many great souvenirs too.

This is the first time I visited Royal Selangor Center. I know more about the founder and history of tin industry in Malaysia. Besides, walking around the factory and looking the process how to produce a product. I also try to make something as a worker in here. Finally, I significantly a wonderful things in gallery. That's amazing.

Very interesting guided tour, with good explanations of the company's background. Also provides demonstrations on making some of the products.
