A very beautiful and well kept garden within the compounds of the Imperial Palace. Unfortunately for us, the timing of our visit was when the waters were below normal level due to maintenance. Nevertheless, the sight beyond the pond was still breathtaking. Lucky for us, there were sakura trees blooming nearby. Beyond words to describe just being here in our journey to learn more history.

The National Gardens are an oasis within an oasis, and absolutely worth visiting if in Kyoto. It’s incredible how peaceful it is here and as long as you have good weather you could wander here for hours. Note that most of the paths are dirt or gravel which could make it tough for some wheelchairs, but it is relatively flat and easy to navigate aside from that.

Stunningly beautiful garden. It's really a pleasure to have a gentle stroll through the garden, walking under cherry trees, conifers and other trees. The ponds are adding to this flair with their reflection of the trees and the cherry blossoms during that season. You also attend a tea ceremony in the tea house within the garden.

A big park in historical heart in Kyoto. It suits for some jogging and also leisurely strolls. It should be beautiful when sakuras are blossoming. Imperial palace are also located in the park. However, I’ve read that it is more worth visiting Nijo-Jo castle.

The park is huge. We couldn’t enter the palace as it was holiday but we did enjoy the nature. Small pebbles paved road inside the park for walking. You can spend some time alone reading or just sitting or sit with your friends.

within the very same perimeters of the imperial palace , the imperial palace and the greatness of the design and , amd the great garden ,, once you reach the outer gate then you have to walk by foot , getting inside is not an issue however the buildings inside the palace are closed , you can just see from distance

It says it’s open 24 hours but the main places to visit close around 4pm (16:00). When nothing is open it is just a walkway. Walls are pretty and bathrooms are convenient. Lots of crows near the north entry.

Came in Early spring, gardens had flowers starting to bloom. Enjoyed going inside the former quarter’s of the emperor and royal family. Can imagine what it was like back when Kyoto was the political capital.

A beautiful stroll through these gardens. They are well kept. The ground is easy manage and only a few steps up and down to cross the covered bridge.

We strolled through this park around the late afternoon before dinner, when everything else was closed. It was a nice big park and we were glad to have spent time there. When we visited, the park was very quiet with very few visitors other than a few people walking dogs. The park is open 24/7

One of the Best 2 places in Kyoto l recommend. The beautiful national park about 65 ha in the city. Free and open for 24 hours!! Good for walking around, doing Yoga, reading and having a picnic on the grass that like the local people are doing.

Very vast, suitable for walking and viewing flowers, picnics, cycling🚴 If you want to go to the Imperial Palace, you need to buy tickets 🎫 but it's worth it, there are all kinds of buildings worth admiring

Kyoto National Garden is a very nice place to spend time surrounded by amazing Japanese gardens. I would absolutely recommend you visit the place to be able to build up an idea of what Japanese culture used to be.

A beautiful new restaurant and information center, lots of gardens to discover in this large space, seating everywhere for you to enjoy the sights. Only a few minutes away from Kyoto Station by subway get you to the garden. Whether you have a hour or a few hours to spare this is a must visit place in Kyoto.

Wunder schöne Anlage. Montags geschlossen. Die Wege sind alle aus Kies. Mit Kinderwagen und Rollstuhl nicht gut geeignet. Sonnenschutz und ausreichend Getränke nicht vergessen. Wenig Schatten.

Calm, breezy nice walk surrounded by trees and blooming cherry blossoms (during March). There were not too many people around, so it is pretty quiet. Especially during early spring season when it’s still cold. The shining sun is like a blanket of warmth hugging you in the middle of scenery.

A real nice place to visit. But one more time, JAPAN doesn't care much about foreign tourists. Guided tour for japanese only & audio guide was not even working correctly, all this framed by COVID panicked staff.... NORTH KOREA, CHINA 🇨🇳 & old cold war RUSSIA 🇷🇺 style. You bet they appreciated our 4000 ¥, for so little done.... such a scandal!!!!

The very first of the 梅 blossoms are there as of January 24 this year. Sakura of the double-blooming type (although just a few) were there in autumn on Sept 21. There is always something different to see. Different flowers, different mushrooms, vegetation, it’s always a pleasure.

Kyoto Gyoen National Garden houses the Imperial Palace and a few imperial residences, due to that it is enormously huge. Could take a while to visit the whole sites in this area, which I didn't get the chance to. Hope I could on my next walk here. It was a relaxing moment taking a stroll round the park, even though it was high noon, the breeze was very gentle and soft.

During my journey through Japan, I was drawn to the serene beauty of the Kyoto Gyoen National Garden. Nestled in the heart of the ancient city of Kyoto, this sprawling garden offers a tranquil oasis amidst the urban bustle. I yearned for reprieve and connection with nature, and this garden promised just that. I was captivated by the meticulously manicured landscapes punctuated by vibrant cherry blossoms and lush greenery. The juxtaposition of historic imperial palaces and modern skyscrapers in the background offered a unique blend of Japan's past and present, which I found intriguing. I visited the Kyoto Gyoen National Garden to immerse myself in its peaceful ambience, appreciate the artistry inherent in its design, and reflect on the continuous thread of history that it represents.

Very pretty. Just visited while it's snowing. Free to enter the garden. Not crowded as the place is huge plus snowy weekday morning.

A beautiful and relaxing place for the eye. The nature they have is very beautiful and the colors of the trees and flowers are wonderful, but the park is very big and you need to have strong feet 😅. I highly recommend visiting it.

Beautiful and well manicured gardens that I visited during cherry blossom season that highlights the lovely experience. Getting into the park was free, however getting into the palace requires a ticket.

The official seat/ residence of the Japanese government during the Edo period (1603-1868). There’s the imperial palace and buildings, which are free to see, all surrounded by the garden. Beautiful year round.

Good place, chill vibes, family friendly, the imperial palace close at 4, come in the morning, good tour not confusing at all

Beautiful gardens - if you want to see the best part make sure to join the guided tour through the Sento imperial palace. The guided tour lasts one hour so its not long-winded. The last tour starts at 15:30 - the Sento palace closes at 16:30.
