Missed the first round at 5 pm and Waited from the queue for the seconds round for 2 hours. Most of the signature dishes were sold out after standing whole night long. Actually there are many places similar places can also be booked in Kyoto. The owner said some people started queueing at 3:30pm..

2023 - So good to be back and to see Yachan again, as always the most amazing experience with incredible food, fun service and a great variety of really cool sake! Honestly my favourite place in Japan to eat! Thank you 2019 - An incredible experience, amazing food, great host / owner / chef / bar tender. No english menu, but that is the whole part of the fun. We let the owner decide what food we would eat and it was spot on. Made some great new friends also.

A place that if you didn't have someone local with you, you would never discover. Super cool location on the side of a wood carpenter yard. Delicious izakaya, very nice selection of sake, good vibes. Few spots inside, outside you can stand around tables set in the yard. Menu only in Japanese, it can be tricky if you don't understand it.

Best food we’ve had in Japan!! The owner speaks good English and we just asked for 3 dishes each (which was a really good amount). The owner chose which dishes were best and nothing disappointed. Would recommend coming around 15 minutes before opening to get a table as we saw it get very busy, definitely worth the queue

Fun standing bar, run by the 4th generation owner of the lumber yard next door, who has a passion for cooking. Small counter inside and a few outdoor tables if weather allows. Get there early, as quantities of some fresh catch are limited. Lots of interesting Japanese sake!

Possibly our best meal in Japan, including Michelin-starred joints. Chef speaks great English, locals are friendly, and food is out of this world. A MUST if you are staying at The Brighton. Get the specials and the grilled/fried tofu thing...

This was top 5 during my trip. Stumble upon it while riding around. The food was sensational, and the owner was really nice. Get the chicken skin dumpling

We tried this place last night from the reviews that were on here. We were greeted by the staff and welcomed to their establishment. It is a stand bar with inside and outside areas. Although small inside (7-8 people max) ourside has 3 or 4 larger tables. The menu was in Japanese but the waiter asked what we liked and gave some options. We were not disappointed!! We had the lightly grilled bonito with hot mustard and the most amazing pickled onion garnish, the tofu in a soy based sauce with green onions and bonito flakes, the temputa mini squid and another fried tofu dish. The sake was plentiful and very nice. I would highly recommed this venue to anyone visiting the area. The staff were fun, relaxed and very warm to all their patrons.

Amazing food, best sake and very nice people. Also great vegetarian options. Try the deep fried tofu and avocado!

Very bad restaurant. I’m going to report to the police for scamming. We are foreigner and we only had a meal around 5,000 yen. But we were forced to pay 9,122 yen. When we asked about the listed receipt the owner didn’t want to give us, he stated the bill is so expensive because they had seating charges fees for us… Does it make sense, charge a customer for seating fees for 4,000 yen? I have the proof of what dishes that we ate before and the price, but they insist for not giving the listed receipts. Very bad restaurant, I will report it the police for scamming. please foreigner be aware of the price of the food you ate or They will charge you 9,000+ like us.

Friendliest bar in Kyoto... The couple who own the bar are amazing - as are the regulars, who for some reason took it on themselves to spend the evening chatting with the random foreigner who had turned up (me). The late-night Japanese food selection was also a highlight
