DO NOT - I REPEAT!! - Do not stay here!!! The pictures are very deceiving! I’d like to know where they put the new mattresses that they show on the beds. The mattresses that we were presented with and had to make ourselves were clearly old (70’s or older) and had never been cleaned so they were stained and broken. Luckily the pillow cases were on the pillows. I made the mistake of looking at the pillow. Don’t! Never been washed, disgusting! The shared showers and toilets are barely functional and leaking. The building is old and clearly not kept up. It is cheap but you definitely get what you pay for. Only good thing, location. But there are far better places that won’t take your money and not even provide a clean bed!

LOCATION FIRST OF ALL You have to understand something, this hostel is trash, BUT... If you don't care about the minimum comfort, this place is barely okay because of location and price. It's really close to everything. The bathrooms are lame and they didn't have even lamps. The shower is horrible. The room was so hot. I read some reviews about the hotel in the winter. I wouldn't go in the winter if I was you. At reception they gave me a sheet and that is it. The room never was cleaned during the 3 days I stayed there. Really, I can't describe how awful it was even I try my best. The place is a fire hazard. Every night I went bed thinking how to manage out of the building if something happened. I would come back? If I'm alone, probably. But just because I don't care that much about comfort and I spent the whole day outside ,I only came back to sleep.

READ THE REVIEWS DONT STAY HERE !! I had the misfortune of booking at Hotel Strand Continental. As per the other recent reviews this place is run down, dirty and uncomfortable. After you make your own bed , ignoring the stained mattresses and old pillow, you are greeted with one of the most disgusting showers and toilets .. the location is the only thing selling this place and the nice girl at the desk who was sympathetic to the complaint but she isn’t able to change anything of course. I stayed at a place in China called Chung aching Mansion for a few days.. now I thought I’d never find a place I’d have to cancel on the spot! Until “Hotel” strand.

Brilliant location you can not get better than that, flawless check-in. Room was cramped, tiny, old rundown, beds are squeaky. No wifi available in the room, no lockers. The ancient carpet wasn't vacuumed for ages. Toilet/bathroom are old but they were clean and in working conditions. It is ok for a night or two, basically you pay for the location.

The location for this hostel was amazing, it’s near SOHO, which is a great theatre district. Despite the location and access to restaurants and public transit. The actual room was not the greatest. We had just a bunk bed in our hostel room. We did not have heat in our room until we talked to the front desk. The beds themselves were not very comfortable. We booked our hostel through hostel world and the pictures on the site were not what it looked like in person, at all. The rooms were cramped, they did not have bathroom pictures, nor pictures of the washrooms. As well the sink in our room, the hot water sometimes worked. The bathrooms were extremely cramped and really cold, not very clean either. This is a good place to just sleep, and not necessarily shower.

HOSTEL - NOT a hotel. No amenities. No WiFi except for in the tiny office area. Paper-thin walls, loud slamming doors on rooms, squeaking springs/hinges, etc. SO LOUD. Decaying shower and toilet rooms. Tiny rooms with no lamps and broken everything. No mattress covers (gross); lumpy, weird mattresses and pillows (only 1). Windows thin and barely functioning, curtains old and falling apart. Everything pretty unpleasant and cheap and old. IF you are fine with a funky youth hostel, and you can sleep through anything, then cool! If not, pay the extra £50 to stay elsewhere. I don’t know how they get away with being classified as a “2-star hotel”. The small Indian restaurant seems really popular = the only place that anyone is enjoying themselves in this building. Good thing: Hostel staff were nice.

DO NOT GO THERE IN WINTER the heating didn't work and we were freezing cold the whole nights we told them and they didn't even care and just gave us stupid excuses we got sick because we were so freezing the great location could even compare to that in summer if you want to save some money it can be great but otherwise invest in your well beeing

Tiny rooms and bathrooms pretty dirty. The building is old and needs to be renovated. Would not recommend it for a long stay, especially for families. Rather a cheap solution at the heart of London. Staff very kind and excellent location.

We recently stayed at the Strand Continental Hotel from 18th to 23rd August, and I must say our experience was incredibly disappointing. Here's a summary of the significant problems we faced: Misleading Information: We were led to believe that this was a family-friendly hotel, but it was actually a hostel with conditions entirely unsuitable for family accommodation. Structural Issues: We encountered damaged doors, windows, locks, floors, and a narrow staircase. There was no option to stay on a lower floor, despite no elevator. Hygiene Concerns: Mold in the bathroom, a clogged and smelly toilet, unpleasant cigarette odor, and unclean mattresses and blankets made our stay very uncomfortable. Ventilation Problems: The room was unbearably warm due to poor ventilation, and the bathroom was damp and stuffy. Unprofessional Staff Behavior: Invasive housekeeping and inappropriate staff appearance were concerning. Equipment Malfunctions: Broken bathroom fixtures, lighting, and insufficient storage space were more headaches during our stay. Miscellaneous Issues: Limited WiFi, loud restaurant noise, and unsightly bags outside the room further added to our discontent. We had asked for relocation or a refund but were offered no satisfactory solution. Our stay was filled with inconveniences that went far beyond minor issues. I strongly advise against choosing this place, especially for families looking for comfort and basic amenities. Photographic evidence of these issues was provided to the booking agency, but our complaint was met with indifference. The only positive aspect was the location, but that in no way compensates for the host of problems we endured. Overall, our stay at the Strand Continental Hotel was a distressing experience that we wouldn't wish on anyone. Think twice before booking here.

DO NOT BOOK THIS HOTEL! MINUS 5 STARS! As we booked one of the cheapest hotels in the neighbourhood, we did not have great expectations.. We prepared for small and maybe even noisy rooms. But what we got offered, went beyond what we could ever have expected. The first night we stayed in room 45 on the fourth floor. All looked good at the beginning, but looks can be deceiving. When we opened the cabinet beneath the washbasin, it looked disgusting. Not a place where you would want to put your stuff. Beside that, the toilet hung loose (it’s so wobbly, you expect it to tilt at any moment), the shower curtain was molded (which is disgusting), the other showerscreen was broken, which makes it impossible to shower without draining your clothes, when you lay down in the bed, you feel the bed springs pointing in your back … But hey, it’s a cheap hotel, so we could have dealt with this, even though it’s intolerable for a hotel. However, when we wanted to charge our phone, we found out that we were not able to. We mentioned this to the staff, who told us there was a problem with electricity in the sockets on the fourth floor, but reassured us that an electrician was on its way. The problem would be solved in a couple of hours. We wondered why we weren’t told about this problem when checking in, but did not think much of it. Two hours later, we tried again and the situation was still the same. The staff now mentioned the electrician would arrive tonight, or at least tomorrow morning. When we came back from diner and asked about the situation, the problem still remained unsolved. At this moment, the staff had no idea whether or not an electrician would at all show up during the weekend (which made us wonder whether or not this electrician was ever called?!). Besides that, there was no effort made to find an alternative solution. An extendable electrical cord from another floor? Give us another room? A refund? No options were offered… It is only when we made a fuss at the reception, that we eventually were offered a different room on the fifth floor for our second night. This room did have better mattresses and the shower screen was not broken here, although this time there was a problem with the toilet lock, and the window of our room did not close properly. DO NOT BOOK THIS HOTEL!

Location is in the heart of London, in walking distance of theatre, bars shops. Wasn't expecting luxury for the price but was worse than I could imagine. I have stayed in london on many occasions and this was by the worst of hotels if you could call it a hotel, it was more like a prison. On arrival you walk through a dinghy hallway up some stairs, in front of you is a reception desk which looks like a dumping ground, was told they need £5 for key deposit and if you do not check out dead on 10oclock you will be fined £50 pounds for late check out. If you do not hand key you lose £5.00. You are given a code for the door upstairs to the rooms. On giving us the key we was told to go up stairs after another 2 flights came across a big heavy black door then had to type a code in , go through that door and climb another 4 flights of stairs, through another door and then there are the prison cells sorry rooms as they call them. 2 separate toilets and 2 shower rooms. We found our room and was horrified door didn't lock, no TV in rooms, only 2 plug sockets working out of 4, little sink had a trickle of water so no good for anything. A dirty chair in the corner. Walls were painted in dark green, for a small room was very claustrophobic. The only plus was had a kettle and supplied enough for one cup of tea or coffee each. Bed was ok on comfort. I only booked this at last minute as was seeing my nephew who was staring at the london palladium and had just returned from abroad. Only stay here as a last resort.

Very good place to stay considering the location. Stayed here in august 2023 with a group of friends, all of us being under the age of 18, so they allow people from the age of 16 to check in. Great place for the price, and really good service

I had stayed here at hostel on top floor. No lift, nobody to help for luggae, narrow stairs. Aged, and handicap people don't event think of it. Room heater was not working well. Talking about restaurant, Indians here will not treat Indians well. Their behavior with others surprised me.

To begin with, my review is based on its location and cost. It enjoys the ideal location for anyone to travel in Central London. Most of the must-go places, like Westminster Abbey, Trafalgar Square, museums, even major train stations and interchanges are within walking distance. Underground stations, like Temple and Embankment, are just 5-7 minutes walk. The lobby service was great and the room was clean and tidy - at least for my situation as I was in a single room. Shower room and toilet are shared and they are small. Again, with this price, and we are talking about Central London, I was fine with this. Bad side - whenever the security door closes, it makes a very loud noise. The door lock was also confusing as I was not sure how to lock/unlock the door.

I’ve stayed in three UK hostels this week, and Strand Continental is by far the worst. The staff was incredibly rude, the bathrooms were dirty and I don’t even know where to start with the mattresses. They were stained and mine was literally collapsed in the middle. This was also the most expensive hostel I’ve stayed at. Location is great though. -1 stars

You get what you pay for :) Overall I would say we are satisfied with our stay. The stuff was friendly and helpful, the rooms were clean ( rooms are small if you’re a big person ). The most annoying part was the sensor in the shower that kept turning off the lights every 3 seconds. An easy fix for the owner, so seemed like a negligence. Location is freaking sweet, everything is close by, many busses around and close to a subway station. It is for the people who would like to spend their days outside the room and just crush there overnight.

The hotel is in absolutely terrible condition! The lights don't work, the toilets don't flush and the cabinets fall apart. The showers are terribly dirty and the water flows either hot or icy. The only positive of the hotel is its location!

    1) Room: we booked a 3 bedroom room and were very surprised that the room wasn't larger than a closet, at best a 1 person room. The pictures you see online simply don't reflect the tiny rooms at all. They advertise having WIFI, however there's only WIFI in the common areas, not in the rooms - completely unacceptable! Both toilets on our floor were broken and didn't flush. I hope you all enjoy freezing cold showers because they were completely cold (ironically there's a sign in the shower saying it's scolding hot) 2) Beds: I was jealous of the blankets homeless people had. Blankets were seemingly cut off in the middle leaving your lower body exposed to the cold coming in from the window that would not shut properly. Our bodies started itching uncontrollably the next morning, possibly due to bed bugs 3) Location: absolutely fantastic location located in the central part of London, everything was in walking distance 4) Price: certainly does not reflect what you should be getting for those prices. The only positive aspect of the place is that it has a great location. Hope this helps any future travelers.

I spent only one night at the hostel months ago, my rating is 3/5 because I stayed on the top floor without a lift (and it wasn’t easy to drag my heavy suitcase up the stairs alone). I recommend the hostel for one or two nights maximum. The prices are among the lowest in the city, it's clean and the staff is really really nice. It’s ok for travellers with a low budget.

Good location. There are no lifts available so be prepared to carry your luggage up multiple flights of steep, narrow stairs. Staff weren’t very friendly. The bathrooms were often dirty with broken lights and doors, and showers had nowhere to put your things (towels, toiletries etc). The bedroom was basic and did the job, but there were stains on bed and it got really hot during the summer as there’s no fan. Didn’t enjoy my stay but it’s a basic accommodation suitable for a short stay

Stayed here for a night. They have a restaurant and a bar in the building. The rooms and amenities were satisfactory and reception is open 24 hours and staff is attentive. However washrooms are small and uncomfortable. There is no lift, even though you are living in 4th floor you have carry your luggage all the way up. Popular tourist places are nearby and within walking distance. All in all satisfactory experience.

Good location but cheap and pay for what you get. Broken locks on toilet doors, broken showers, very very small basic rooms, not very welcoming. Although did let us leave luggage at reception early

Really decent simple little hotel! We stayed in room 34, the room was very simple, comfortable and nice. Bed was nice and firm but not springy, very comfortable. Shared bathroom/toilets were very very clean, excellent shower,. Very cheap for central London prices and deffo not disappointing :)

The staff is very friendly, good price and nice area well connected in terms of public transport as it's a quote short walking distance from Temple (Circle and District line) and Holborn (Central and Piccadilly line). The rooms are clean and the beds are fairly comfortable. It's a hostel so don't expect to sleep hugged to prince Charles (which to be fair would be awkward as I'd spend the night awake staring at his ears) on a mattress that change shape according to your position during sleep to optimize the R.E.M. phase but if your expectations in terms of comfort are realistic they will be met or exceeded. If you hate the stairs and/or are carrying a heavy lugjgage, it's probably not the best place j. On a positive note, when I was checking out a member of staff saw me struggling and brought my luggage from the room to the reception: I salute you with genuine respect and gratitude on my heart: I wish I asked what your name was and send a positive feedback to your boss: in the past I've been working in places where and email from a happy customer meant extra money on that week's payslip?

Very bad service. No heating. The coil of the pot in our room was rusted. (See the photo.) Common bathrooms for whole floor. They say continental breakfast is included but bread, pancakes, and cereal is all they serve. They should pay tourists to stay. Dharmashalas in India provide better services and amenities than this. Highly not recommend!!!

A wonderful hostel with helpful staff in a fantastic location. A private four person (two bunk beds) room is available while the others are dormitory style. Sheets, comforters and pillows are provided. Shared bathrooms are clean and functional and towels are available for rent. Free Wi-Fi was available only in the lovely shared lounge area with big windows overlooking a pedestrian plaza, under construction in June 2022. Of course the rooms are very modest given the affordable price. The four person private room lacked most niceties like chairs and sufficient shelving/hooks, and nice lighting, but included a dresser drawers, a sink and a window that opened onto an alley.

Good location, but poor hotel and breakfast. Toilet with no window and cramped. Room basic. Pay for what you get. Suitable for a couple of nights.

Location is awesome and perfect I booked via booking.com last day I was informed that they cant confirm my booking due to some software error But finally they were able to Rooms my bed didn't have a Charging slot , it was close to ceiling (as I was given upper berth ) it was v difficult to get up . Washrooms were v small and shared by large number of people

Good budget accommodation but don't expect the world. I was on the fifth floor (walk up) in a 3 bed dorm. Not much space but the place was kept clean and tidy. Beds ok. Room a bit too bright and would benefit from more and thicker curtains to help with sleep. Rooms contain a sink which is handy. I was there for 6 nights and a shower was out of service the entire time which is pretty bad. Reception service was good and consistent. Great location. Wifi only on level 1 and very low quality. Nice to have the bar and restaurant on site.

Only positive about this place is that it's near the centre of London. Everything else was dire. 89 steps to climb to floor 5, room stank of paint fumes, no WiFi in room, extremely basic. Wish we'd saved up a bit longer and got something comfortable.

  • 2/5 Amanda J. 1 year ago on Google
The room was clean and tidy but the whole building was very out dated. Staff were helpful and pleasant and allowed us to leave our bags while we went to theatre. The location is brilliant but I really think they need to update showers and toilets. I read on here toilets are dirty our toilets were also dirty however this isn’t the hotel’s fault this is people who use the facilities just learn to flush the toilet!!!! Simple really !

Beware! I was scammed by this hotel. I stayed for one night as a last minute solution. However I was charged for 6 nights instead. I tried to get my money back but they act as they do not know. The place is very old, neglected and people try to trick you. To be avoided in any way possible!

The hotel's commitment to reducing plastic waste is evident through its use of refillable water stations and reusable toiletry containers, promoting sustainable practices.
