I loved this Place - so cool to take a step back into History. So nice to see it preserved. Fun place to visit. The area is really beautiful. If you read book or watched a few U-Boot Movies most notable Das Boot. You can get a sense of how it must have been to live in one of these U-Boot. Especially under War times conditions. The where pretty sophisticated for the time - obviously U-Boots have come a long way since than. If you are in the area you should visit this Museum especially if you are a history buff. Also your visits helps in maintaining this Museum so others can enjoy it hopefully for many years to come. Worth a visit

Very nice museum that gives a fascinating insight into the state of technology at the time. Here you can experience how tight it is in such a submarine, even if you still know that it all takes place above water. Still oppressive.

A really great museum to touch. If you buy a combination ticket for the submarine and the naval memorial, you get a lot of German history about the sailors of our past. Been there myself as a child 40 years ago and 20 years ago and now again. It was very interesting to see all this and for the children too. Absolutely ok in terms of price. These are the two attractions on the beach, this is a perfect place for a day trip and you can stroll along the promenade and eat a delicious ice cream. Anyone who is near the Baltic Sea should definitely pay a visit to Laboe.

German U-boat, later used by the Norwegian navy after WW2 and returned back to Germany in the 1970s. Nice experience to walk through, see and imagine people living in it. Not very long and can be completed in an hour easily.

The technical museum, i.e. the submarine on the beach in Laboe, is definitely worth a trip. It is very impressive to see how it was built at that time. The price for the monument and the technical museum is reasonable. €13 per person There is one star less for the toilet. If I already pay the entrance fee, I don't want to be asked to pay for the toilet again. The view from the monument is breathtaking and very beautiful. If you don't have a head for heights, you should take the elevator.

Very interesting place with a historical background that shows in great detail what it looked like on board a World War II submarine. Unfortunately, there are no explanations about the individual parts of the submarine. The boat can easily be boarded by even larger-built visitors.

There is less material to see in this museum than in other museums. Here the focus is on the memorial hall. The view from the tower is sensational. The submarine is more suitable for people with specialist knowledge. It is simply too expensive for laypeople. The visit takes less than 5 minutes.

Always very impressive. The entrance fee is a bit expensive but everything has to be maintained.

Nice place! The submarine museum is very exciting. Here you have a very good insight into the life of these submarine sailors back then. The exhibition of the ships in the hall and the view from the tower are also great! The prices are definitely okay!

An amazing experience. You can enter one end, walk through, and exit the other. Ticket costs a small fee, from the center against the street. Very interesting to see. Highly recommended.

It’s an old submarine, that is open for a visit, as a museum. It’s not very big, but there are several sections. Its quite interesting to see how the submarine is designed, how people serve there, where they slept, ate, shower. Horrible to imagine, that in WW2 for many this kind of submarines became a grave.

My grandfather and his father before him designed U.S. submarines during and after WWII at PNSY. I am fascinated by them! Grandpa’s sub is on display back home. This was a wonderful opportunity to see a German design! I was very impressed with the layout inside and out of U-995. Truly a marvelous vessel for its time. Reading about the German naval history next door was also quite an eye-opener. Plan to spend at least 2 hours here if you want to read up on the history as well as your the sub. I spent 3 hours here and I would have stayed longer if I could have.

I found this submarine after reading Chen Sihong's novel "Ghost Place" and took a tour online.

The war memorial is highly recommended. The vie from the top is breathtaking, you can see really far out into Schleswig-Holstein. However the main attraction, the submarine itself was disappointing; they haven't really bothered with labels or information about the machinery. It was just a 1 minute walk through the submarine.

Nice submarine with interesting story. The sub is much smaller than the one in Hamburg, only one deck. 20-30 minutes to walk through. Periscope could be operational...

Nice experience in a submarine, walking through a part of history. The museum nearby provides interesting history and artifacts during the world war. The nearby beach area is a great place to enjoy the summer.

Very worthwhile destination. The beach invites you to linger and is ideal for a subsequent walk. A combination ticket can be purchased at the ticket office with which you can go to the observation tower of the memorial.

This German sub from 1942 is an absolute must to visit! You can easily visit it on the beach of Laboe, on the opposite harbour site of Kiel. Best to catch the direct ferry to go there, it's such a pleasure in fine weather. We previously visited the sowjet sub U434 in Hamburg. Even so the sowjet one was much bigger in size, more modern, build in 1976, it had a far more claustrophobic feeling. I know which one I'd rather be on 😁

If you are 20 miles or so near; a must! Fun for both kids and adults in my opinion. 4,5 euro fee is fair. Not that much info provided inside but you can explore by yourself.

Amazing beautifully designed German naval museum and memorial nearby, the U-995 an interesting insight into what all these young war navy sailors would have to endure in claustrophobic conditions often close to pressure crunching point. If you're in Kiel, Flensburg or any place in the northernmost state of Schleswig-Holstein go visit the village Laboe, see one of only 4 well preserved German WWII submarines. Not far away also another impressive slightly scary memorial at Möltenort. Both extremely recommended. Come with half a day time if you're a patient detail focused historian type 😉

Getting to go into World War 2 German U- Boat U-995 was the main draw, but the observation monument and naval museum proved to be extremely informative and interesting. Very well done, with a number of artifacts and serving as a reconciliation between the Allies and the Germans. If you like history and museums/ memorials to those who served this is a must see. All ages were there enjoying this, and the cost is very minimal (less than 10 Euros pp to go into both). If you are on a cruise out of Kiel, this is a 25 or so minute cab ride or you can book an excursion through the ship with an airport transfer to Hamburg. Well worth it. Good idea to watch the movie 'Das Boot' before going if you like war history. Gives a German perspective of life in a U-Boat.

A great attraction, a huge U-Boat with a well-preserved interior and generally well-kept appearance. The only downside is the problem with parking in the area. There is one paid parking lot nearby, we didn't find anything else, but it's definitely worth seeing this boat.

A very nice museum, furnished with great attention to detail. As usual for a submarine from this time, you should be a bit agile. That wasn't my last visit

Very interesting, many facts that were not yet known, the memorial hall is very moving, the viewing platform offers a beautiful panoramic view, the submarine shows in an oppressive way what the living and working conditions were like

How cramped it was in such a submarine! Then you have to imagine the smells. The tower offers a fantastic view. Anyone interested in history should take a look at the museum.

Interesting exhibit with a serious background. It's best to combine it with the submarine memorial 8km away.

Interesting to walk through submarine trying to imagine how people lived and worked under water. You should buy ticket ("coin" for entry) in ticket office on another side of street in ticket office of naval memorial.

Its rare experience to see, know and feel submarine. Felt life of soldiers inside submarine with all instruments, warheads and other controls. A must visit place for enthusiasts.

  • 4/5 Somesan A. 2 years ago on Google
The submarine is well maintained and interesting in itself. However, there are no English translations. The submarine should have more informational notes, to explain what, how, and why.

Must visit for everyone interested in WW2 era.

MUST visit destination.... cheapest ticket price I ever paid for this up close experience! Especially if you are the kind of person who wants to take it at his/her own pace (as there was no tour guide or booklet provided) this can be marked as a negative, but it's a bit unfair considering the ticket is half the price of a basic dish in the nearby town (which by the way is also worth the price, as the seafood there is amazing)

It is interesting to see how little space you have in a submarine. It would have been nice with texts in English also and a prestation of U-995. Like how many sailed it at a time. How long where they at sea at a time etc

Type 7c on display ( the most typical WW2 submarine) after all the films and series about these craft brings home the horrors of both being on them and being on the receiving end of them. The boat is easily accessible and complete inside but could probably benefit from more explanation of it and it's operation.

  • 4/5 Slinkie 1 year ago on Google
The boat is in great condition inside and out. Because of the way its propped up you can go under it and view it from angles you normally cant (like U-2540 in Bremerhaven which is still afloat).

Informative stomp around a WWII U-Boat. As a none German speaker, I took a lot longer than the other visitors as I had to translate everything (thank you Mr Google) but I enjoyed the visit nonetheless. I didn't go in the nearby War Memorial as that was an additional charge and I wasn't sure how much I would get out of it. Quite sad that there is a fee to pay your respects . . . .

Ever wondered what it was like to be in the Capt Henrich shoes in the movie Das Boot? Well you can, if you go to Laboe in the northern Kiel area. The VII C-class U 995 is “dry docked” on the beach here and is a very nice museum piece which you may enter and walk through at your leisure. It’s perfectly preserved and you can visit almost all areas accessible to the crew. This one was used to hunt the waters around Norway during its tour in the WW2. The U 995 sunk at least five vessels belonging to the Soviets and Americans. The boat was surrendered to the Norwegians at the end of the war. A perfect visit during an otherwise closed Germany on a Sunday. Probably easiest to reach by car, combine with a beach visit off the weathers nice.

If you are interested in history, a nice exhibit of strategic warfare. Do not recommend to visit the museum in summer as it can get quite toasty inside though. Otherwise a nice destination to take in some german history if you happen to be in the area.

I liked the submarine, but I would like to visit other places on this boat (for example, the upper deck).
