A beautiful small temple site in Lamphun that is rarely visited. I have been there a dozen times and have never seen another visitor, unless they came with me to the temple. The chedi is fairly unusual in shape and has a long history. It is possible that this temple dates back to the 7th Century CE and was built by Queen Chamadevi as her personal temple, but the historical evidence is not conclusive. Believed to be one of the oldest temples in Northern Thailand, but because of numerous renovations over the centuries, it is hard to prove any specific dates.

Wat Phra Yuen (in Thai: วัดพระยืน), which means the Temple of Standing Buddhas, was built in 1370 by King Ku Na. Since then, the original design has changed but the buddhas are still standing (there are some sitting ones too). Inside the temple, there are nice murals depicting the effects of good and bad deeds. Visitors are offered to make their own buddha amulets, clay and casts are provided. It’s fun.

When my wife was a child this place was deserted and she described it as scary to walk Now it’s active and like a museum- go here to see some history
