Great pub (well, to be more correct, bar and restaurant) on Lancaster Canal. Friendly and efficient service, good food and portion size. I recommend the ham hock with duck egg and hand cut chips! Delicious. As a Londoner, friendly northern hospitality and courteous service is always very welcome. Good selection of ales if that is your fancy.

Such a great range of beer, brewed by experts. The pan fried chicken breast main was perfectly cooked 👌🏼

My friends and I had a really great time there. The food was really tasty and well presented, and the staff were lovely. It's so cozy, and a really excellent place to spend a good time with loved ones. I'm planning to take my partner there for a romantic evening next time 🥰

I don't write many low star reviews but I was quite disappointed with my visit to the White Cross. The venue is lovely and I'm sure would make a lovely stop off for a few beers on a nice summers day. Unfortunately our group meal wasn't great, half the menu was not available (that isn't an exaggeration), I wish we had been told this when we booked. The food we did get was on the poor side of average, I got the feeling their chef was a stand in.. If we go again we will no doubt just hit the nice selection of beers they have.

The White Cross is breathtaking aswell as the view. The food is excellent, the staff very professional, mask wearing is enforced which is reassuring. This place is definitely "A MUST".

Had a great meal here yesterday - lovely food, attentive service and relaxing atmosphere. Good value for money. Plenty of space too. We came from Manchester to spend the afternoon and evening in Lancaster. Can’t wait to come back. Thank you.

Food is really good, staff are great and location is beautiful. As people have commented on in previous reviews the drinks can be on the more expensive side but I would normally expect that in a classier establishment.

One of my favourite pubs to visit in Lancaster. Large canal-side terrace in the summer is a must!

Twixmas, bar staff great. Selection of ale. Larger and cider spoilt for choice. It was not a great atmosphere, considering it was midweek after Christmas. I would imagine it would be good another time.

We visited around Christmas time, and the service was good considering how busy it was. The staff were friendly and helpful. The food was nothing special, I had the veggie burger which was awkward to eat and not very flavourful. Expensive for what you get.

We had a lovely day at The White Cross. Three of us had fish and chips. The batter was delicious and crispy and the fish was perfect and fresh. I had the Thai Penang prawn curry which was also divine. The service was efficient and very friendly and sitting by the canal was restful and relaxing. A perfect spot.

Late notice booking dealt with seemlessly. Food was served quickly and was VERY tasty. Great menu for all tastes.

Friendly helpful staff that provide an excellent service, even when the place is pack. They do an amazing selection of food including cheese boards, which can be had indoors, or in one of two outdoor seating areas. One is next to canel(great for the sun) and one is out front (usually well shaded). They also have a well maintained pool table, however if possible I would take your own cues. They also have a fruit/slot machine.

Visited The White Cross a mid week evening while in Lancaster catching up with our son who's at the university. Sadly, we had limited time due to a busy schedule but the very efficient staff following our food order served us very quickly. Beer battered fish and chips along with sausage sandwiche, and chips were top draw. The locally brewed beer was excellent as was the hospitality. My only regret was not being able to stay for longer. Next time we're in Lancaster I've no doubt we will be paying The White Cross a return visit.

This place makes the sauce very well. Upstair is the restaurant, downstair is the pub, So when you are in the restaurant, it will not be quiet because you can hear some noises from the pub, but it is still fine. It is not too loud.

Absolutely wonderful roast dinner here today. The lamb and beef both were so tender, beautiful flavours. The service was very good, the young lady who was our waitress was excellent. The wine was very good and at a good temperature which isnt often the case at some places. Thank you so much we definitely recommend the Sunday Roasts.

Pleasant atmosphere, probably good for families as quite big and spread out. Nice outdoor seating by the canal and great range of beers. The vegan seitan burger was absolutely awful; dry, flavourless, like eating a rag. And the chips tasted stale. Decent coleslaw though.

Lovely pub with great food, nice inside seating and outside on the canal. Nice pool table too. Good range of drinks but not many ciders on tap. Bit more expensive than town but fair enough for the lovely location.

Popped in after our canal boat trip, for lunch. Good choice of food and drinks, with friendly staff.

Brilliantly run pub with a fantastic local atmosphere. The weekly quizzes are ones not to miss - the landlord takes great pride in them and they're really great fun to take part in! Make sure you book in advance! The decor is cool, there's a great range of drinks and the food is pretty great too (much better than standard pub food for sure). This is our #1 pub spot in Lancaster, great in Summer or Winter. It's a must visit!

It is alright! Sitting outside in windy cold weather!!! Nothing really special... I also checked the menus , very average! 4 stars to show my generosity 🤠

There was 8 of us looking for somewhere to meet up and we couldn’t have chosen a better place. I think the lady who served us was the manager and she was brilliant, nothing was too much trouble. She was attentive without being over bearing. The food was excellent we had main courses and deserts. The price was very reasonable. I would recommend and will definitely visit again the next time we’re in Lancaster.

Bar staff who were working on Friday 2/12 need customer service training or a different job. I live quite close to The White Cross but as of late I find myself going here less and less. I was here on Friday with some friends, will be the last time for a while. The staff really let the place down. First order I asked for a Guinness and the barman acted in a bizarre way as if I'd asked for a drink he'd never heard of and the entire communication was just odd. Second time at the bar, one of my friends wanted to try a Baby Guinness shot. Made up of Kahlua or Tia Maria and Bailey's. I have ordered this in The White Cross before no problem. This was a different barman who 'served' me and said , 'I'm not doing it' as he didn't know how to put it through the till. He had a really bad attitude, so I asked if his colleague would make them and he also refused. I have worked in customer service before and it does not look good when a business refuses a sale because they do not know how to take your money. If you don't know- ask. They are plenty of other pubs in Lancaster that will happily take my money and they are where I will frequent instead. I would not be happy if I was the owner of The White Cross and I am definitely happy as a customer.

We had an excellent evening 3 course meal with a large group of friends, and every one was very pleased. Service was excellent, food was really good, and well presented though Master Chef might criiscise some minor points. Fine dining at a reasonable price. Wines in the slightly expensive bracket, but good quality.

Great location. Good food. Good service. Maybe needs a broader menu. But the squid was divine.

Love this place! Nice location, next to the canal. Just wish there was more seating on the canal level. Top level always appears to be more formal, for eating. Never ate this time, but hear the food is good.

Able to cater for gluten free, the bun was one of the best I have eaten. The burger was delicious both gluten free and ordinary. Althoug, the chicken burger wasn't great as it had a very large vein running through it and was gritty hence the 3 stars.

Visited with my partner for a meal on Friday night - we both had steak which were cooked perfectly, followed by sticky toffee pudding. Our waiter was attentive and quick to serve us - great service and food. Always impressed by the White Cross and it is a firm favourite of mine!

Big room. 13 hand pulls 8 ales on + ciders × craft beers.

Really enjoyable meal with family. The bar is busy but that didn't stop prompt and good service. The menu is good but could do with refreshing, burgers were okay but everything else was excellent. If you gey David serving you, you're on for great service!

This is our second five star review,. Lovely atmosphere and a good selection of real ale. The staff are always friendly and knowledgable and we would like to mention Jess for her brilliant customer service, friendliness and knowledge of all the ales.

Really good food and a beautiful spot alongside the canal. Decent prices too. Only went for lunch but would go again. Staff were attentive and pleasent throughout.

Lovely day in Lancaster today, made even better sitting outside The White Cross by the canal, enjoying some hand cut chips, and chatting to lovely people in the sunshine!
